i disagree with your examples but I like the idea of a Alternate fire, or in a game like ODST a fire selection switch

or matter in fact there was a post a while ago about multiple ammunition types.

No. It doesn't sound good.

It sounds overcomplicated and unnecessary, especially since the weapon sandbox is already a little crowded with duplicates.

Unlockable upgrades also rewards more experienced players and discourage newer players.
