Halo's Ingame Gamespy
Xfire's List

Currently I don't have the issue atm (pictures above), but I won't mind helping out to resolve the problem though.

I think the first question to ask is, you are using all the official files from bungie to host the dedicated? meaning no third party server app addons or using the version changer with the server itself.

Vocain, Check to make sure your filters in gamespy are turned on to see ALL servers and ALL pings. The server in question is
! The Clan SNIPE NO SHIELDS 216.167.118.109:2302

..and here is my screenie:

..and if you notice, it's not just our server that is doing it.

The reason you all are having server problems is because you have angered the Halo Server Gods. To appease them, you must make a monetary donation into my paypal account and then pray. In time, they may forgive you and allow your servers to return to normal.

In all seriousness, it's a gamespy issue that will probably work its self out soon. Restart your server everyday so when the problem is solved the ping will show up.

Some useful ports for Halo that could cause some issues to happen with the client/server and gamespy.

For Halo:
80 (Transmission Control Protocol [TCP]) - Halo looks to see if there is a Halo update available. If there is an update, Halo downloads the update through this port.
2302 (User Datagram Protocol [UDP]) - the game host listens on this port.
2303 (UDP) - the game client connects to the game host through this port.

For Gamespy and Arcade Application:
6667 (IRC)
3783 (Voice Chat Port)
27900 (Master Server UDP Heartbeat)
28900 (Master Server List Request)
29900 (GP Connection Manager)
29901 (GP Search Manager)
13139 (Custom UDP Pings)
6515 (Dplay UDP)
6500 (Query Port)

More and likely one or more of the gamespy ports are closed or filtered out causing the dedicated server (which contains gamespy code) not to display to the halo client (which as well contains it). Which is how the client grabs/verifys certain info such as ping, CD Key verification, etc.

Still workin out how Xfire gets the ping info, but my likely guess it actually does a UDP ping request out of the server via default port 2302 which it listens on.

Pretty much. It just requests the server status information and uses the response time as the ping.

I keep on trying to install the patch, but I get this message:

Halo is not installed on your computer. This patch requires Halo to run.

I've been playing the game, so how is it not installed? I tried re-installing it, but it just tells me:

You have already installed this game. Would you like to play it?

What do I do?
EDIT: I finally managed to re-install it, but it still won't work. Help!

I've been getting a really very sad error with Custom Edition. I installed the 1.09 patch from here but everytime I click Join Game - Internet it goes to the Checking For Updates... screen then says update available so I press OK, but when it closes & checks for updates on the updater screen (The small halo screen) then it says its up to date. But it always says that a updates available everytime I go to Internet. Direct IP works fine... Please help me man. I miss Roleplaying... :(

LMAO - and this still doesn't work for dedicated Halo Servers. I have tried everything since the update and nothing allows my servers to work anymore.

Everything has worked perfectly for 3+ years on that server, the 1.08 came out and Gamespy had to update their stuff for it to work, once they did, all was good.

Then the 1.09 comes out and the exe may work, but something is amis - GameSpy is nto responding to trouble tickets and MANY servers are having the same problem. You can connect Direct IP, but cannot go in via the GameSpy lobby in Halo.

I have spent hours verifying and testing ports - everything is as it should be. Did the update change ports on us and we don't know it?

Has anyone found the work around yet?

The bungie.net community is the halo PC community that is renowned for being unbelieveably sucky.

^ sucks about your problem, I have missed the "The" clan servers. Once what's his face dropped the update on us, he exited stage left in a hurry. I doubt you will see him come back and try to help you. The update to 1.09 was totally unnecessary and hurt more people than helped. And since all the bots can be used again with version changer, the whole thing was an exercise in stupidity.

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

I think 1.09 was to address a memory conflict with IE on Vista. Though you do seem to be right about sawnose not responding here at all in over a month...

Since 1.09 hardly any of the servers on my list have had pings listed by them.

Thankfully my Internet is too bad to game anyway. ;)

People who use IE deserve what they get. I thought the update was for people running one of the server OSes and some other minor BS.

BTW, Halo now crashes for me ("exception" error) when I minimize out of the game...wow. I haven't had Halo exception errors in years.

Flawed as it may be, Halo PC is a lot of fun. Plenty of kids are still buying (pirating) the game and discovering how fun it is for 20 bucks (free).

H2 wasn't a very good sequel at all and an even worse port to PC. After Bungie sold out to Microsoft around 2000, all the real talent left and we got games like Halo 2. Bungie has convinced everyone that they created Halo, but in fact, they did not. Modern Bungie's first game was Halo 2, which is why they are a sucky developer who makes games for 14 year olds who get angry when a 20ft fall kills them.

  • 02.11.2010 11:48 AM PDT

I would like to know when we'll see a fix for the netcode.

lol

But, really. What exactly are we getting with these new updates?

  • 02.17.2010 8:10 AM PDT

I'm still getting that connection error message now. Help?

Basicly, when i click 'Get Servers', i get the same message as you, and when i try to host anything, even LAN, i get a network connection lost message.

I agree, this game is old, it should've already passed it's own source code release.
