Looking at the source, the name of the file is "queen-piping.wav" I'd assume it has something to do with Queen bees, though I have no idea what. Gives you something to google, anyhow.

ya, I know. It doesn't sound anything like it. Have you ever heard what it sounds like!?

  • 07.26.2004 10:27 AM PDT

With B.B. gone, the passion of Bungie.net has lessened.

Didn't the book said it was a six-tone signal? I always wondered why the book said six-tone, since Oly Oly Oxen Free is seven syllables, total.

Perhaps I'm wrong, though.

I've wondered that too. I know what the tones sound like for oly oly oxen free and i've always heard it with 7 tones, but maybe since the last two are the same they whistle them as one

That's because you googled the wav file directly.

Instead, I googled Queen Bee Piping. Sound familiar? According to the internet, piping is the name of the sound a Queen Bee makes when it's challenging another queen to battle.

File that one away. =)

Isn't Oly Oly Oxen Free what one of the enemies say in the first Splinter Cell?

Oly Oly Oxen Free is acutally used in the military. I seen it on military sites before. It's of course used by the Master Cheif and his Spartans. Used to tell things like when an area is safe.

Uh, maybe, but you've never heard that phrase before?

Anyway... it sounds a lot like one of the insect tones in 343 Guilty Spark, in the swamps, at least the main part, minus the buzzing.
