The battle rifle does have it's place in the game. Granted, I'm not a br fanboy but the odst game gave me the opportunity to be able to review my thoughts on the weapon along with the purchase of the halo encyclopedia.
I preferred the original halo 2 br where one shot out of the trio of rounds went outside the cluster of the target reticule. It was not until br starts after the update to the targeting where the shot cluster was brought closer together and br starts were the default that I started to take issue with this weapon.
The battle rifle is essential to the franchise, it balances out and excels at everything which is it's strength. It is the ken/ryu combination that is in halo as the battle rifle/carbine. No matter if you remove it or keep it in there always has been and always will be a divide between the br lovers/haters. If you keep it in, ar/h1 pistol/dual weilding fans are going to be upset. If you take it out the mlg/br lovers will get upset. Bungie once said in an interview that if half the people are upset and half the people are happy, you're probably about the at the right place.
If anything seriously needs to be done, it's that the range and power of the cqb weapons need to be extended and potentially the rate of fire on the br needs to be slowed maybe one or two tenths of a second between shots but this action would be catering it to my own personal playstyle. This is Bungie's game not mine. I'll continue to play their games and enjoy that which is in their games and I'll adjust my playstyle to cater to it.
Ultimately, Bungie will do what they deem is correct to do. Their games are the most tested out of the major companies. They will do what they feel is in the best interest of their games and their gamers. If anything should be foremost on your brain about the battle rifle complaining, you should be grateful that they haven't yet deemed fit to toss in the 55 round br. Freshly listed in the halo encyclopedia as the xbr55, this would be as close as you could get to a modern ak 47 with a dual drum clip. It is listed as and I quote
"A sixty round variant this version was the portotype which was later remodeled to suppress "walking" (found on page 304). With halo reach being prior to the halo games, this would fall right in time with the halo:reach title.
As I was told long ago when it was switched from smg start to br start on halo 2, learn to use the right weapon for the right job. The br is good all around but eventually, it still comes down to the skill of the player. In close quarters, I was able to smash br players with dual smg's in close quarters. Use the strength of the weapon as it is intended. Blindsiding a br player with close quarters weapons with ambush worked in halo, halo 2, and halo 3. If you continue to play to the br's strengths rather than your own you will continue to lose and lose repeatedly.
