Subject: Cheating in Halo(PC)

A CE patch is in development. New ones will be made if there are a substantial number of players simultaneously playing at peak time.

Obviesly you guys know how to use words, i read something about games pings, so know something about it, but i will chesk that halo architecture, so that i can know something about that as well. Apparently speehack isn't a hax or cheat, so tell me what is it???

  • 07.28.2004 12:25 AM PDT

It would be a hack of the server's map file, if it exists.

Well if it only works on a server with the speed hack installed it's considered a mod.

"You're testing them as a server. They won't work as a client. They'll appear to work but won't actually be doing anything on the server. "

No man.... It was tested on X3M server. I added you to MSN (goweb). . Please accept it - let's discuss this on MSN and I'll give you the hax - you can check them out - they work. You'll be surprised.

Please be co-operative

Mine. I personally tested it on X3M server. We also shoot it on video, but haven't realesed it, and won't. It seems that we should do another video where pings are shown as well as other players who move at normal speed.

There's only two files I'd like you to check out.
Speedhack and a direct3d thingy which allows you to see wireframe, whitewalls, no fog etc. That's the most threatening hack in Halo. Some guy from a known clan spread the hack link in Clanbase IRC-channel, and the host of the hacks is a known hack-place too.

I'll add you again to MSN, please accept it. I'd like to send you the link / files. I don't want to post 'em here.

PS. here's a screenshot of the direct3d thingy in use: http://www.drunkdragons.com/members/99/warrrr.jpg

If you were seeing yourself with a speed hack then how do you know others were seeing you with it to? The point is that what you see most definitely isn't what you get. It may appear that you are travelling faster when in fact you are travelling at normal speed. It's like the infinite shield hack.
The Direct3D hack is a separate issue, and can in fact also be caused by altering the map file. Like I said, only a hash check would prevent it.

Goweb...I think one of these days you should make this a sticky.....too many times have people come here and asked about cheats. I too am tired of seeing them in the forums.

If you guys see these "cheats" leave the server...that simple. The safest way to go is to join a BUNGIE server. Happy Gaming {:/\()

I was using the speedhack - another guy took it to video, not me. Was shot in X3M server. And As I said previously, this hack doesn't speed up the player, it speeds up the whole game in the eyes of the speedhack user. Other just see the player move fast. I haven't got a clue if the player actually does move at normal speed but appears to move faster, the only thing I'm sure of that it moves fast and even a lucky luke won't have change to hit speedhack user. And it's also kind of wierd, if the player actually moves at normal speed and that isn't drawed on the screen, how could someone possibly know for sure where the guy is?

MAN, you can't change anything on the HaloCE maps so that the altered map will work in public servers. You can modify CE maps so that they can be edited and opened in HMT, but after modding, you can't join any server or no one can join your server - unless both have the same exact map. In Halo PC - you can. Not in Halo CE

The direct 3D hack could be easily (but temporarily) prevented with a DLL checker. The hack installs DLL files to the Halo folder - nothing to do with hash check.

Obviously you aren't very interested in seeing the hacks for yourself, judging by the wierd and infinite comments you give and the fact that you aren't very interested to have the link to the actual hacks (what could be a better proof). , so i'll rest my case and contact someone who could be actually interested.

  • 07.30.2004 7:00 AM PDT

A DLL check would also add to the inital load time, which people are bound to -blam!- about. I am also sure that simply giving another map the same name as an existing one will allow hacks in Halo CE (though I haven't tried it).

And no, I'm not interested in the supposed "hacks" because I know that the majority are a load of bollocks. It would also prove nothing, since I wouldn't know whether or not I was actually moving faster without actually asking someone. If they say yes then it could be that they believe that the speedhack is genuine and their brain can trick them into thinking that I was actually moving faster (it could also be argued that this would apply to me, but we won't go into that).

There is also the lag factor to take into account - warping is a HUGE problem, especially on non-Bungie servers.

Finally, I have seen the other video of the speedhack and can see no evidence for it.

Nice Ad :D

Cool that Bungies servers prevent the use of Direct3D hack, maybe they should spread the hack blocker :P

Im firmly with Mukelo/Capixular on this one. There are hax for HaloCE and certainly some nasty one's in HaloPC. The speedhack has been used by players in publics recently and is getting more prolific.

I know Bungie has nothing to do with HaloCE - this fragmented architecture of responsibility over this game is quite frankly annoying, so I'd like to take this chance to firstly back up claims that there are hax for Halo, and secondly, to please release a patch for HaloPC 1.041, that makes no difference whatsoever to the game of HaloPC, only informs the user upon load that HaloCE firstly exists and secondly, where to get it (link to fileplanet etc...)

There are only a couple of hundred HaloCE players online at any one time, but that is because no HaloPC players know about it. The few that do, do not play it, as they think 'yeh well there are few players on CE anyway'. However, in PC servers, I frequently ask people if they have heard of CE, and most say 'no'.

So please, release a minor patch for HaloPC that pops up a dialog box on load informing the user of HaloCE and a weblink. I know the server message of the day states this, but it is very confusing to the average 13yr old Halo PC player:

"Bungie says: Custom map capable client now available..."

Very few people will understand that.

Please release a quick patch for HaloPC informing users about HaloCE. Then you will see a lot more players shift to HaloCE, this will lead to more mappers/modders caring about developing for CE (Myself included -I have given up modding for CE until more players arrive), which in turn will lead to higher coverage of your game, raising and maintaining sales of HaloPC until Halo2 is released.

This would be very much appreciated. We can discuss hax mitigation later, but first we need the foundation to this game to be in place :D

There is a very fine line between not listening, and not caring.

Bow Chicka Bow Wow!

i dissagree there is plenty of cheating in halo pc. for example i was playing with some guys at at blood gulch and i jumped over a warthog and all of a sudden i couldnt land. i would fall to the ground then pop back up on the top. i asked the host of the server wut was up and he said it was a mod that he added to make him win more. he said u have to hit the jump butten again to land saftely. so there is definitly cheating on halo pc.

  • 07.30.2004 7:11 PM PDT

For the server, not the client.

That's not nothing new, every noob can do it with hmt3, server side in Halo PC doesn't check map textures..

But it's a different thing with Halo CE. the above procedure is impossible (which is ubercool), if you try to join a server with a texture modded map, you just can't. Every player in CE has to have exactly the same map in the same server (which sadly isn't the case in Halo PC)

Personally, I couldn't care less how much and how many cheaters there are in Halo PC, 'coz I play CE only.

It will take some time for the developers to acknowledge the real hacks for CE, but would take even more time if there wouldn't be discussions like this.

Cheating is okay with me as long as everyone on the server is fine with it

wats the point of complaining, there nothing u can do to change ever hacker or cheater in halo multiplayer

ok ive just been reading this post or subject or w/e and watching the videos, and what goweb makes sense, but he also seems to be in denial or trying to cover for some mistake by saying there r no cheats/hax over and over and over....either that or hes just incredibly stubborn...i mean at least PRETEND to acknoledge the subject and look into it jeez like a bunch of guys said itd be easier than writing a page and a half bout how mods cant be...i feel like im in a friggin religious chat where every1 finds it impossible to believe that they r wrong...dang i hope i dont get banned or anything for writing this...

I haven't denied that there are SOME hacks. But MOST hacks are IMPOSSIBLE. Not hard, IMPOSSIBLE. Don't believe me? Read this. And I quote:
The game design forced the coders into a trade off that earned the game a very cheat proof server authoritative system, but cost clients perfect feedback whenever the server disagreed with the client's understanding of the state of the game.
At least TRY to do some research before posting.
