It might sound cool, but a Pelican/Phantom can be very unbalanced. They travel very fast, compared to the other Halo vehicles. Also, they'd be splatter death machines.

Look out.... -boom- (headshot)
I told you to look out, but know, you got in my way, was going to shoot that splaser....

Can there be a maybe/not sure option?

i would see why it would be such a hastle to put those in the map but it would be so fun

it would seem plausible but i think the pelican would have to be slow like the elephant so it couldnt splatter since it could not be jacked

If both sides had one, perhaps. To those who say it would be a splatter machine, have you ever played halo? You know what happens when a pelican gets anywhere near the ground, it invariably crashes. So, yes, as long as landing was very difficult, I think it could be used.

well if it gets hit by a fuel rod once they usually go down (true in halo wars, halo 3, halo odst, halo 2 and halo ce)

Why yes, I've never played Halo before, that's why I'm on the Bungie forums discussing Halo games. /sarcasm

This isn't Campaign where all Pelicans crash. This is Multiplayer.

Have you ever played against people who know how to use the Banshee? Most of the kills in the Banshee result in splatters. All you're doing by adding a Pelican is making the Banshee two to three times as large (increasing its surface area, making it easier to splatter) AND increasing it's speed.

Heck, splattering with a Hornet is easier done than said.

Campiagn? Yes. Multiplayer? I don't think so because it would be overpowered and have unfair advantage.
Pelican and Phantom in Halo: Reach's Campaign is enough for me.
Play Halo: Custom Edition you guys, damn.

That was an exaggeration meant to make a point. Also known as sarcasm. The fact that your comment was a sarcastic response to my sarcastic comment is too much irony for my taste.

Oh, and as to your continual talk of this splatter problem, that's why I said that it should be extremely difficult to handle, and it should be extremely sensitive. For example, if you hit the ground with out the landing gear engaged, you crash. If it was so weak, then attempting to splatter players would be running the risk of crashing.

How about this

  • 11.03.2009 8:41 AM PDT

If you are watching this you have clicked on my profile or stolen this. I dont know why you would do that...

About me? I love Astronomy, I like to play guitar and watch anime. My future lies in Astronomy and so does the future of all of humanity. You should join my Astronomy group Space Explorers.

For multiplayer? no, would have been to unbalanced.

For Custom Games, forge? Yes, that would have been fun.

hmmmm wait what about spirits wouldn't they be the transport vehicle of this time for the covenant (even though this is in the same year as halo 2 maybe it could be a mix of phantoms and spirits)

they could make them like the vultures in Halo Wars. Slow but powerfull. Well in this case ... slow but hard to destroy. Take about 2 or 3 spartan lazer shots (in certain spots) to take one out. Also splatter death machines ... lol. Try getting in a phantom and flying down to the ground hoping to splatter someone. You could see that miles away so it will be so easy to avoid.

Anyway this is a good idea. For what is ment to be the last halo game allowing people to do something they have been wanting to do since the start.

I guess an easy fix to this would be tight corner maps. If reach is set in a colonized world, that is mirrored closely to earth. Then a city would be the perfect area, the pelican and phantom each spawn on a hanger, and wont be able to enter the area because of the tight corners. Those are my two cents ;)

I am Field Master Avu Med 'Telcam, Servant of the Abiding Truth, and I have many brothers.

A god who creates tools is still a god. It is not for us to impose qualifications upon the divine or presume to guess its intentions.

Pelican should be considerably slower, not at splattering speed, they should be almost invincible, maybe 3 laser shots to asplode it. Pilot dies at first kill mark, passengers are taken out at range proximity to damage.

Halo CE took place only a few weeks before Halo 2, not years.

Anyways, to the OP: they carry too many people at once (Making it easier to swarm enemy base, or causing multikills), can't be Hijacked (the door to the cockpit is through the troop transport section), and most people won't even use them as transports: they would just take them and leave before anyone else gets in for a splatter fest.

yep.

Halo CE was in year 2552
Halo 2 was in year 2552
Oh and guess what ... so was halo 3 =P

The pelican / phantom would be unbalanced for default multiplayer. Designing a map big enough for a flyable pelican / phantom for those people who want one for forge / custom games would pretty much make that map pretty much useless for any other gametype.

Its best just to keep flyable pelicans campaign only.

thats true ... i dont care if its only in campaign or just in multiplayer. Aslong as we can fly them for once !!!! =P
