Eat raw meat.
Punch a bear in the face.

If you don't know who I am, the feeling is mutual.

That'd be difficult to include, considering Reach is a prequel.

Wherever you roam
so far from home
you'll be safe from peril
life threatening and terrible
if you avoid David Powel
and keep track of your towel.

Prequel's got nothing to do with it. It's just that the Covenant has been so thoroughly detailed since after Halo 2 that adding in a new client race would just seem wrong.

Pets, pests, game, and other such animals are fine though.

There are actually (at least) 5 deleted Covenant species.

Check here and scroll down a little to see the others.

I know, and those are all from before the release of Halo 2.

Also, I didn't say that they couldn't get away with it. Just that it wouldn't really feel right, with our great understanding of the Covenant it would seem too convenient that we simply didn't see any of *new Covenant species* before. This only applies if they're sentient of course.

There is an idea of a Ygidorp, some kind of abstraction, but there is no real me, only an entity, something illusory, and though I can hide my cold gaze and you can shake my hand and feel flesh gripping you and maybe you can even sense our lifestyles are probably comparable: I simply am not there.

Negatron, its a prequel. Any new Covenant enemy in Reach would be in H3. I just hope I can kill dinosaurs again.

and how!

I want to see civilians and wildlife. I would REALLY like to see the wildlife that was going to be on the Halo rings, but of course, we won't be visiting any Halo rings in Halo: Reach.

What's up? You can call me Phil. I love to play Battlefield 3!

My problems [with Reach] are basically just full parties, mlg, and people who go out of their way not to get killed.

Bungie could do anything to the Halo Universe and call it canon. Like it or not, they could introduce 16 new alien races and simply say "the Covenant never used them" and the Halo Universe would be in perfect condition.

Well, with the exception of Reach, cuz it's glass and all.

  • 11.03.2009 9:14 PM PDT

bungie has proven that a bunch of monkeys sitting in front of keyboards can randomly type out a masterpiece. the thing is, when you go to play the masterpiece, you cant help but notice all the monkey s**t smeared all over it.

it gets real old having to wait months for someone like mlg to clean off all the monkey poo.

everyone knows the new race is the oompa loompas. when the covenant hornswogglers and snozzwangers and those terrible wicked whangdoodles invade loompaland, the unsc steps in and thats what kick starts the whole thing.

although, technically, if the oompa loompas didnt get grunts banned from official dwarf tossing competetions in 2512, the covenant never would have developed such an unemployment problem and wouldnt have had a reason to invade.

all this is straight out of my leaked copy of the reach beta. i haxxed it and read the hex.

The less than a second latency of online play is a better system to play off of than more health.

You realize this system is just as host based, right? because if you're fighting host, or someone with a better connection to host, and you each start firing at the same time, his BULLETS will register first, giving him slightly more health if the melees happen at the same time.

So would you rather have the BS of both, or just one?

I have to say I disagree with you there. I really felt bungie really never achieved that full fleshing out of the covenant that I always wanted to see. From halo to halo 2 they added only 2 new species and tweaked around some existing ones. Then in halo 2 to halo 3 they actually reverted and left the covenant smaller.

I always imagined the Covenent as a swarm of lesser species enslaved by the overarching theocracy. While the mainstay units we have come to know are all fine and well it just doesn't have the feel of the "alien slave drivers" that the covies should have. I always felt, if anything, there should be at least two more grunt level species (maybe not in stature but relative weakness in combat) so it doesn't seem as if the covies are exactly as reliant upon grunts as they seem to be. Heck I'd love to see a couple non-humanoid "beasts" tossed into the covie ranks to make it seem as if the covies really do just enslave and make use of all those they seem fit to serve their cause.

Its a trap!!!

sigh i just saw the same topic done last night. But ok I will say it once more

the only way it could work without tossing what is canon out the window is to have a caged beast to unleash on the humans

Not actually part of the covenant but kinda like a vicious pet that they keeped locked up ready to maul anything
