Someone should organize the stuff weve been disuccing into like a text file. And then post it, so it makes more sense.

So the Covenant captured 343 and somehow got the coordinates of Earth from him. But, I don't think it would be that easy. They would have to work together; make a deal. Perhaps the Covenant told 343 they could help him get his Index back if he gives them the coordinates of Earth.

Ahhhh but you see I dont think they "captured him"

He obviosuly just wants revenge now. He would do anything to have them dead, I dont think he cares about the index now that his ring is ....gone.

I think revenge is a good incentive. Plus Bungie announced that the flood will return. It was written up in the Halo 2 cover issue of EGM. Perhaps 343 has a trick up his.... uhh... metallic exoskeleton, and will somehow bring the flood to Earth.

Bugie did say that your only going to be on earth for a short time....

They also said youd be on a second halo. Right?

As for compiling this discussion... That's not a bad idea. It would have to be Banshee Barron's honor, however, because most of the important points were brought to bear by him.

I'm not entirely sure about how much of the game will take place on Earth. From what I heard there was going to be quite a bit of it, but we're also supposed to take the fight to the Covenant homeworld (or at least one of them), as well as battle on another Halo, and in the atmosphere of a gas giant, and on a moonbase. I think the sheer scope of this game is much larger that the first Halo. I wouldn't be surprised if Halo 2 had something like 15 levels instead of 10.

Deal. It kind of sucks that this thread is dying, though. Someone bring it back to life.

i believe the atmosphere of a gas giant was for the fact that halo was orbiting a gas giant at least it looked like 1

the monitor could go to another halo(as bungie has said there will be more halos coming into play) installation and borrow some flood from there and possibly get another monitor

I don't think so. They said in Halo 2 you would fight in the upper atmosphere of a gas giant. By that I think they mean in the actual atmosphere and not orbiting it out in space. Plus this is Halo 2 we're talking. Good guess, though, but Bungie just needs to gives us more freakin' clues.

I'm wondering at what the role of the new Halo will be in the story. It could be one of a million things. Maybe we seek it out to destory it to eliminate the potential hazard it poses to sentient life across the galaxy, or maybe since Installation 04 has been destoryed, when the other Halo's follow suit and destroy life across the galaxy, Earth will be spared. Maybe 04 is supposed to clear out our section of space and now with it gone the Halo's no longer pose a threat to us.

Whatever the answer may be, I hope that Bungie doesn't just throw a Halo in there for the sake of the game's title. I hope it's meaningful to the game and series. I can't wait to see where this goes.

*SPOILER*In First Strike the Covenant were looking for 'The Guardian of the Luminous Key". Because Cortana's translation was not yet optimized, she couldn't elaborate. There is one guardian in Halo, and there is one key. The key is the index, the guardian is the Monitor himself- our friend, 343 Guilty spark.

Strangely, not more than a few days after the Covenant transmission, an assault on Earth is planned. There is only one non-human creature in the entire universe than knows the location of Halo. Guilty Spark. He's back. ;-)

Ay Banshee, you're the one who came up with that theory about Halo 2 right? Something to do with the Guardian of the Luminous Key. You should bring that up again; pretty damn interesting if you ask me

You answerd your own question! -LOGIC-ERROR117-

I quoted that because it looked like only a part of your whole theory; I never said anything when I first saw it, but it made pretty damn good sense

Same with the September 13th theory, now THAT is a good possibilty...

If GS is back i'm sure he'd have to have stolen a covenant vehicle with the aid of his sentinels, it could happen, i just can't imagaine the little A$$ flying all that way.

GS is prolly coming back (sigh...) watch teh end of the credits to see him fly away and in the EGM Halo 2 issue it talks baout how there is an 80% probability of return for the little anoying guy.

GS didn't give the cordinates of earth to the covenent the covenent found out on thier own the same way they found out about the location of react by leaving thier little tiny probe attached to the human ship, then wherever it goes and when one of the ships made it to earth the govenent knew where to go

I HAVE IT!

Cortana still had the index when they destroyed halo.Guilty spark wants the index back so he can active the defense systems on the other halo's.Guilty WOULD ally with the covenant to get to cortana. So that leaves off that 343 Guily Spark and the monitors would be a covenant ally.

WHY DONT WE GET AN ALLY!??!?!!?!

I'm not so sure about Cortana having the Index. Remember in the Library when she is "holding" it and it suddenly disapears out of her hands? Obviously she can't do that. She teleported it somewhere like 343 and the Chief had been doing. I don't think it is entirely clear where the Index is at this point.

Someone mentioned that the covenant are after the index/luminous key or whatnot.. That doesn't make much sense.. Simply because once the covenant found out about the flood, they tried to high-tail it out of there because they didn't want to die. The Index helps to make the flood go all over the universe, destroying sentient life. This also would not make sense for the covenant to "ally" with 343, because why would they want to help him get the index? So he could kill them all? If 343 gets the index, he will end up killing the Covenant along with any other sentient life cause of the Flood. So, ya, the fact they would ally makes no sense to me.

I don't think that the Covenant and 343 would ever really become allies of any sort. If anything they would strike a deal. It is more than likely, however, that the Covenant simply captured Guilty Spark as a means to find the coordinates of Earth.

They also could have promised of helping to retrieve the key but who knows... Like I posted before, the status of the key/Index is completely unknown. As far as we know Cortana could only teleport it to another part of the ring where, when the Autumn detonated, it got destroyed.

Maybe 343 is upset over not being able to set into motion the wiping clean of the galaxy, or the destruction of his installation and many of the records with it. Maybe for 343 it is purely a revenge deal and he seeks to destroy humans. Perhaps if a deal was struck it was done on the idea of accomplishing a common objective.

However, maybe after everything gets set in motion 343 decides he wants to wipe all life clean still, because, after all, he is quite insane. This could be where the new Halo comes into the story.
