Subject: Should Covenant be more brutal?

If they could make them as brutal as they were in halo wars, I would be happy.

stuff like this is important because it makes you realise why you should hate the covenant,

But you shouldn't hate the Covenant. You are just a perfect soldier, following orders. You are killing them not out of some personal vendetta, but because you must, and because you are ordered to. Makes the game more realistic if the tone that is set also matches the motives of the main character.

Another example, in Gears, the locusts killed Dom's wife. He has a right to be pissed off. If he was quiet throughout the campaign, that would seem rather odd right? You'd expect him to be cursing the locusts at every turn and slaughtering them for what they did to his family. Brutal things makes sense in this case, since it matches the mood of the game.

Do you see what I'm saying? Sure, small animations for your enemies for when they are not in combat make the game more realistic, but it shouldn't be everywhere.
Yes, I agree. And yes, you should hate them because if humanety didn't hate them they would probably lost the war. I like to say that "Love and Hate are the most powerfull things we have, it makes things worth fighting for"

But you aren't playing as humanity, you are playing a 7 foot tall weapon that was trained to not let things like anger get in the way of completing his mission since he was six.
There is no such thing as a human without fealings, that is a zombie... But I agree that letting anger get in the way would be unprofesional, but it would make the game more awsome and it would make you personaly hate the covenant, I didn't mean that the spartans would do some sort of personal war...

There is such thing as a soldier without feelings, its called Brain washed soldier...

Oh, Death was never enemy of ours!
We laughed, knowing better men would come,
And greater wars: when each proud fighter brags
He wars on Death, for lives: not men, for flags.

Yeah but killing a dog will look a lot more brutal

I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

As the title says, I think the Covenant should be more cruel. This does not have anything with the brutes to do accept that they are a part of the covenant. I mean that the covenant should du things that realy make you hate them e.g. an elite brake the neck of a civilian, some drones is eating the remains of a human, a brute can pick up a marine and assault him real bad... I stuff like this is important because it makes you realise why you should hate the covenant, because after Halo 2 you didn't realy hate the elites, this is bungies chanse to make the covenant look cruel! Thing like this doesn't have to be usual but at least something like this should happen once or twice...

EDIT: Humans can also have some cruel stuff because we are not the good guys either, and marines could be realy cruel to e.g. grunts and jackals...

An Elites would not so easily attack a civilian, he bears far too much honor. He would more likely leave the civilian to the Grunts... Although I do see your point. I would like to be able to play on the opposite side of the war as well, and hate humanity.

I don't believe that John was ordered to retrieve Cortana after Gravemind crashed High Charity into the Ark, was he?

Lord Hood?

Anyway, I think that if Bungie makes the Covenant seem more brutal, they have to make the contrast between them. For instance, Elites should be the more honorable, posh, maybe even disgusted by other covenant.

If Brutes are on Reach, they would likely try to kill a Commanding Officer if it was an Elite. If successful, they would rampage across the area without any organization or reservation.

I'd like to see a more structured Grunt unit, not always a bunch of -blam!-.

Jackals should try to loot corpses for shiny objects and the like.

Hunters are always in pairs, yet they don't ever seem to use a group strategy. They need a few. Also, needs Army of Two fist bump.

Know what I mean guys?

I think both sides should be brutal. We aren't the good guys. There are no good guys in the war. I bet some humans could also be cruel with some aliens, everything depends of each character.

well the UNSC didn't call for a genocide or even start one against the covenant so i would say the UNSC would have the right to be brutal since they are fighting for their even existence.

me too like the elites in the first cut scene where they are stabbing troops and throwing them to the side or stabbing them while they are crawling on the ground

Johnson has more authority than the Chief. Even privates can order him around technically.

Anyway, retrieving Cortana was his contribution to the plan:
1. Activate the ring
2. GTFO

Finding Cortana was necessary because she had the Index.

None of the Races of the Covenant really wanted it either, even the Brutes originally questioned the Prophets' order to destroy humanity. And only the 3 High Prophets knew the true reason of the War.

I would be fine with the Spartans hating them because even though you are a super solider they viewed their fellow Spartans as family and many Spartans have been killed in the war.

Why are we losing?

Yea, the covenant are kinda lifeless when fighting them. I think the enemy AI needs to be stepped up to make them do things drastic in battle, ex: brutes charging at you. However, there needs to be more emotion and feeling in covenant combat. In the books an elite would find honor in commiting suicide to serve the covenant. I believe this needs to be demonstrated with emotion.
