it is productive but its like getting payed to walk around all day and punch random people in the face "obviousely an exaggeration" but i think it gets the point across.

I believe that most, if not all players were very unsatisfied with the final boss in Halo 3. It was a wtf moment for me. I was really hoping to go mano a tentacle with gravemind.
I think that halo 3 lacked a sense of urgency during boss battles, it just seemed too much like a normal skirmish. Tartarus was a pretty badass boss in Halo 2 but still I want to take on something like gravemind and large scale. I want to look up at something and nearly $&#t myself wondering how im gonna take it out.

Since Reach will be before the flood maybe we can have an enemy sort of like the flood juggernaut that was supposed to be in Halo 2. I want something scary like that chasing after me that can jump like a maniac. haha well that doesn't really matter but it would be nice to put in :)

"Thoughts are the shadows of feelings; always darker, emptier, and simpler."

No boss battles. This isn't Zelda, this is HALO.

Your giant boss is the carriers in orbit that are glassing the earth that you are standing on. A type of boss that you don't "kill" but you "survive"

Does that work?

So just because this is Halo we can't fight something large scale? I don't mean like after every mission. I just want at least something at the end to give a sense of completion. Or at least more difficult enemy.

You can not seriously tell me that you were happy fighting 343. Idk i just feel it to be a little monotonous.

What boss would you suggest when taking into account the time period and setting of this game?

Not much really works.

That' just it though. Killing someone doesn't mean that you've won. In Halo and Halo 3, you "won" by activating the destruction sequence that would blow up Alpha Halo, but then you had to escape before it did blow up. Most players would agree with me that boss battles are a bad idea.

I get that they're following the the novels and its set way before gravemind is ever discovered. But space is vast. They could add in certain alien species that are larger but infrequently join the battle, sort of like hunters but something more vicious. Bungie created Halo there is no exactly laid out path they need to follow. The one who wrote Fall of Reach did not create the entire Halo universe.

We dont need boss fights. But it would be nice if scarabs and hunters were scarier/more powerful

Well, they have to stay in canon with the books.

I think the boss/creature you're looking for is the Drinol. Look it up on Halopedia, it's pretty vicious.

I'm not trying to be argumentative but why not both? tartarus was a boss. Brute Chieftains can be considered bosses. Why not something a lil tougher in between. Not saying it has to happen frequently, but it would most certainly add flavor to the halo franchise.

If you stick to the same formula all the time, all you'll ever get is the same kind of flavors. Why not try to add something different in?

I'm not saying get ride of the activating destruction switches, but we've all seen it before, why not try to be a little more creative?

Yeah i've read the books and i'm excited to see that too.
I think I may have given you guys the wrong impression by saying "boss". I mean a scarab can be considered a boss right? Really the heart of what I'm trying to say here is i want something much more devastating like a scarab but perhaps an alien species. A big one to fight at least once.

I think when i said boss you guys thought
"oh at the end of every chapter you have this ridiculous thing waiting for you to defeat a certain way"
I don't mean that, cuz that WOULD take away some of the halo feel but, why not just one giant thing sprinkled in there?

I think large-scale battles are a better idea. I just don't want a "You v. Him" situation like the one we had at the end of Halo 2. If there is a "boss", he/she should be everyone's problem, not just yours.

If it isn't broke, don't fix it.

But those were what made the endings of Halo: CE and Halo 3 so satisfying for the fans. Maybe they could tweak it a little, but still keep to the overall theme.

this is halo. we dont do bosses. our real toughest enemy are those kamikaze cones

I'm not saying get rid of it cuz thats one of the things I liked but why should that be the only thing in Halo? I'm not asking for a whole revamp of the system haha just a few new things thrown in.

AND YES! thats what i was going for. I never really said that he was only YOUR problem. We've done it with scarabs, why not something alien like? maybe something a little bigger.

Well that was my 2 cents thanks for the intelligent discussion.

I think that scarabs should be harder to board, and maybe more possible to take a direct approach. Super Scarabs should also make a return (well, one super scarab).

Light a log on fire and a man will be warm for the rest of the day. Light a man on fire, and that man will be warm for the rest of his life.

I completely agree with you.

I don't know what is up these other guy's asses, but I would love real boss fights in Halo3.

Scarabs in Halo 3 were fun enemies, but it definitely did not have the feel of a boss. It had a bad combination of trying to make you feel part of a large operation, but keeping individualness... for some reason the scarab only fired at you, and your teammates didn't help at all so they might as well have been trees in the backround.

A boss fight should be YOU vs ME. For example, killing the prophet in Halo 2. When I played Halo 3 for the first time, when the large tentacles came out of the ground going after the Pelican after the Keyes died I was extremely excited. I thought I was going to fight the gravemind and it was going to be epic... then they disappeared letting me escape... epic fail.

Needless to say, I was completely disappointed.
