Halo' flamethrower have always been weak, and pretty much useless. There range was ridiculously short.

contemporary flamethrowers can incinerate targets at 50-80 meters (165-270 feet) distance from the gunner;

As you can see, real flame throwers have plenty of range.

Inspiration?

Do you agree? More range for the flamethrower?

it needs a small range otherwise it becomes really overpowered.

There are other ways to make sure it's balanced. Less powerful? Overheats faster?

Peace through superior firepower.

Real flamethrowers shoot a stream of burning fuel if they shoot as far as you're saying. They usually don't everheat in 5 seconds, they can take much longer, as a simple flame ignites the fuel outside of the tank. Regular people can last longer than Spartans do usually.

[Insert something funny]

Flame On!

Ok, then, if you shoot the guy in the back, they explode and die.
The gas has to come from somewhere.

...Then where does the fuel come from in Halo 3's flamethrower...

somewhere underneath the handle is a small chamber/keg where the oil/fuel is.

I have a gun and my anger management classes are starting to piss me off.

OK, I for one would love a better flamethrower. The range on the halo 3 one is crap as has already been pointed out but I have a problem with how fast you die. In Halo 3 your supposed to be a Spartan-II with a thermo-protective suit that costs as much as a starship and has energy shielding.

1: The shield is not made of paper, it wouldn't EVER catch fire but for gameplay reasons I can understand it. If the Halo Reach flamethrower (PLZ GOD LET THERE BE 1!)is going to cause shields to FLAME ON! Then it should have at least some time required to ignite. (maybe a full second?)

2: YOUR A F***KING SPARTAN! Your character shouuldn't behave like he's (or she's) lugging around a turret. In the year 2552 I imagine that incendiaries are better than today's and therefore provde a lighter ...um... lighter.

3: HELL YES THE RANGE NEEDS TO BE LONGER! In halo 3 a player can backpedal out of the way of the flamethrowerand not even have to strafe at all if they jump soon enough. I want to burn guys on the other side of the room, not my friends on my side.

I don't see why a flame thrower has any effect on a space marine who has shown he could, survive the heat extremes in space, and re-enter atmosphere.

I don't know why but in video games everything looks farther than it is.

The pavement on Sand box from end to end is 150m
the ARs bullets disappear at 120m
an AK-47s effective range is 300m

I like the Idea of Halo having guns that have realistic effective ranges, but I don't think anyone ells dose.

What they need is a vehicle that has the Scorpian tracks and has a giant, long-range Flamethrower on top. the name: The Pheonix Flame Tank.

If you don't know who I am, the feeling is mutual.

I speak the truth, and truth speaks itself.
The lies disguise what you despise.
Run. Flee and be, what you've always dreamed.
What happens now won't matter later.
What you see will not be, nor what you imagine will not happen.
The end is close, so take your dose.

Distance. At least.

I thought that the Halo CE flamethrower was good....

If somebody's opinion is being smashed and nobody's helping, I try and help. I use logic and extensive vocabulary (and sometimes self-destructive circular reasoning) to confuse my enemies into submission. Fear me, trolling, fapping creatures of the night. For I. Am your worst nightmare.

I actually want a weapon or two with incindeary rounds :P

  • 11.04.2009 7:36 PM PDT

what we need is 2 different types of Flamethrowers,

the "Heavy" variant, like halo 3's with slightly longer range

and the "Light" variant ,which would be an actual weapon (i.e AR, BR, Rockets) it would do less damage and have less range, but vastly more portable.
