I really think the BR should stay.

well i would like it if the BR work like a DMR

and the AR is technically a BR so there will be one weather its the MA5 or the BR55

but other than the the BR is a good functional weapon and bungie should work out the balance issues.

The AutoMag can one headshot kill Jackals and Grunts, just like the BR. But it just so happens that the AutoMag is balanced.

And you're right, the game wouldn't be the same without the BR.

And, the reason the BR wasn't in ODST is because the lead designer hated it.

which is perfectly understandable
but if the br was unbalanced in halo 2
why didnt they fix it while the beta was out?

Where did Halo 2 come from?

It WAS overpowered in Halo 2, and Bungie attempted to balance it by adding the bullet spread, but that didn't really change much. It's not as bad as it was in Halo 2, but it's still overpowered.

listen, the BR is a good weapon, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be changed for Reach. ALL weapons should change for Reach. The AR should fire as far and as powerful as an AR would in other games. The SMG should have the current AR's range. And the BR should have even farther range, as should the sniper. The BR should actually function as it was meant to: a counter snipe, marksman's weapon. And the AR should be a GOOD AR. Think M16 or M4A1 from Modern Warfare.

idk
i just think the br should never be on the chopping block

  • 11.04.2009 6:52 PM PDT

The BR is very effective at medium to long range along with the carbine, but they perform poorly in CQB environments.

  • 11.04.2009 7:00 PM PDT

Personally I cant see how you say the BR is a noob weapon. In order to effectively use it you have to be good at using it both long and short range,be able to strafe unpredictably while still leading shots, and keep steady aim even while getting shot or naded. And it definitely emphasizes teamwork more than any other gun I can think of. Without calling out locations and asking for the help of your team the BR is MUCH less effective, just watch a few MLG games vs regular team slayer games and tell me which one needs more teamwork. Also, I've noticed that a lot, not all but most, of the people saying the BR is a "noob" weapon and its "too easy" to get headshots with are low levels that spend most of their time in social games.... seems a bit contradictory to me.

Eat raw meat.
Punch a bear in the face.

If you don't know who I am, the feeling is mutual.

The BR should return, but it should behave more like a real battle rifle (as in, it's -blam!- for CQC). I'm not quite sure how Bungie could do it, but I'm thinking it'd involve slowing down how fast the BR can fire.

Lol, the BR's not the problem, everything else is!

You can't make the weapons very realistic unless you drastically change the map environment. Most firefights are fought well within rifle range (if I had to guess, I would say under 100m), so by your logic, everything should be powered up. You even said the BR range should be increased. This will only make it be used more.

Bungie didn't go for realism when they made this game. They knew their longest rifle (besides the sniper) would only have a max range of around 40m. This is purely a balancing issue. Though if you want realsim, I suggest CoD, but even that game isn't realistic.

Okay..

There will be no AR. In the Halo story line, it was not made during the battle of Reach. The BR will STAY.

Any weapon that is in all the games after Combat Evolved will NOT appear in reach. ( Besides the AR, and maybe a few other weapons. )

This can be said for any weapon ever made in the history of man. The problem with the BR is it is too efficient compared to all other weapons. The BR dominates in close (mind you, not melee range), mid, and long range. It is the all-purpose gun, one that solves virtually every problem a player encounters. The player should not have to be forced to use a BR to win a match.

And it definitely emphasizes teamwork more than any other gun I can think of. Without calling out locations and asking for the help of your team the BR is MUCH less effective, just watch a few MLG games vs regular team slayer games and tell me which one needs more teamwork. The BR doesn't "emphasize" teamwork, it is used in competitive team-based games because it is so damn good. Picking up the BR doesn't all of a sudden make you an amazing team player.

Here are the facts:
It can kill in 4shots to the head.
It can kill 3 people per clip.
It works at virtually every range, save the extremes.
Each burst has 3 bullets, one if which can devastate a sniper out of his
scope.
How is this not needing fixing?

Not even MLG professionals can 4 shot people most of the time, in fact, most br battles at high levels means that both people survive, since someone usually takes cover after the 3rd shot if they feel like they are losing.

I'd like to see ANYONE new to Halo 3 kill three people in one clip, that is almost IMPOSSIBLE. Bullets travel rather slowly, so the correct lead is essential at a distance, making it require a lot more skill than your beloved AR. Before you bash the BR about how it takes no skill, why don't you make a good argument about how the AR takes skill? All you do is burst fire at mid range and spam at close range + melee, it isn't as if it is hard.

However, if they do cut the BR, I won't be sad because there is always the COVENANT CARBINE!

If the AR was realistic in game play it would be effective 600m assuming it would be using the same ball powder we use to day. and it could work in halos small scale game.

yes you would be-able hit what ever you see, but what ever you see in halo is within only 100m and that well with in a hypothetical MA5s capabilities

How to spell "space"?

S-P-ACE! SPACE!

The BR makes all other weapons virtually useless at the ranges they were designed for.

No, making other weapons useful at longer ranges doesn't help, it just makes the problem happen at longer ranges.

Enemies are Gifts of Honor

Keeper of Truth: Hours 9am-5pm closed on weekends

(I used to be Koloblican11763, look for my real states on Halo 2)

OP and his quote has some good points, but the BR very likely will not be in the game until much later in the campaign. According to the book the BR is not even invented until Just before Reach is glassed. If my thoughts on the games timeline or in any way correct, then the BR won't be in until much later (if in at all). And the silenced SMG is for ODST's, If they add it in Reach it will likely be only multiplayer.

Just my speculations.

Actually the BR was prototyped in 2525, that is 27 years before the Fall of Reach.

4 shots to the head and there dead...what could beat that?

Exactly, it is the nub gun.

yet so many people are bad with it and the people who are good with it easily win

if it was a nub gun everyone would be awesome at it. Kinda like that one gun with the super recoil that killed instantly in Socom 2

Yes pistol takes more skill. I rather see the a 4 shot scoped pistol take its place. But the BR is still more skillfull then just about any weapon except for the snipers
