result? br, carbine, snipe, cause barely any movement, while things like ars, shotties, smgs rotates the player close to 45 degrees. guess that blows your autoaim theory away.
the Aim assist is just smooth out game play depending on what weapon you are using, not to aim for you. and it really is every bit as easy to keep the reticule on someones head. and if it's not than reduce your sensitivity. i don't play halo 3 very often but i have no problem sniping on 10 sensitivity

if your burst firing the ar, your doing it wrong. as far as burst firing goes, the choices are killing someone in 10 seconds with 1 clip of burst fired aimed ar, or killing them in 10 seconds with 2 clips of full auto ar, non aimed ar. since you can carry about 15 clips of ar, it doesnt really matter which method you use. both have the same effectiveness.
since nobody i play against lets me shoot them for 10 seconds straight, the only medium range option you have is to kill them with 3 seconds of well aimed br/carbine.
the AR is a 2 second kill at full auto. 9 rounds a sec and 18 rounds to kill.
all the way across guardian, or even foundry I could drop a shield in 4-5 seconds, and normally he hides. and yes you are not going to stand still for 8-10 seconds for me the kill you but I'm not going to stand still either.
burst fire even works better at close range. I never melee with the AR, simply shooting my target makes more sense to me. so if some one trys to AR rush me is star busrting and increase fire rate as he gets closer hell never get in melee range.
