Awesome isn’t just a word. Awesome is a way of life. Awesome is a way of war. Teamwork matters the most. Lone Wolves jeopardize the missions. Teamwork is key. Resistance is futile. I remember when Halo Wars came out, people said it was a side project in the production of ODST, but now im hearing that ODST was a side project to Halo Reach. So does this mean Halo Wars and ODST are 2 side projects to Reach? If so how long have they really been working on Reach?

Go with 3-4 years.

Right when they finished Halo 3 they jumped into Reach. Halo 3's release date isn't when they finished ;)

"Dear Bungie.net, we regret being stubborn bastards, we regret coming to this forum, and we most definitely regret that Darth Kooky blew up our raggedy-ass opinion!"

First of all, Halo Wars was commissioned by Microsoft and a couple people at Bungie gave a nudge here and there to Ensemble. Halo Wars was a completely different project altogether. While Reach has been worked on for 2-3 years. Then there's ODST as an extra Campaign and Firefight mode to tide us over until Fall 2010 with the added bonus of built-in Halo: Reach Multiplayer beta keys in all the Halo 3: ODST Campaign Discs via the Extras menu. ODST took a little under a year to make by a small group of people while everyone else was working on Reach and the unnamed IP being made at Bungie. After ODST was finished, everyone who worked on ODST joined back into the Reach group. They've been working on it ever since.

They've probably been wanting to make a game about Reach for quite a while now.

As for actually working on the game, I'm guessing since before Halo 3 was released. Takes a while to make a new engine and prototype game mechanics.

About me:
I'm 20. I use to play Halo alot but never do really anymore. I'm a offline player since I have dial up. I do play online on rare events when I don't have to go to work, school, etc.

Halo always take 3 years to make. Longer than most games out there because bungie actually wants the game to be GOOD.

Some games that take a year to make like Madden or CoD: WaW do not sit well with me at all. Games like Bioshock 2 are what I find acceptable in matter of how long it taking to make.

Halo 3: ODST took a year to make by a small team and Bungie and it turned out pretty good. I still play it here and there when Halo 3 or CoD4 get boring. If ODST took a year to make and Halo : Reach is taking 3?

Holy crap it better blow me away!

In the days of old, there were legends of a land long lost to time. This land was known as Ranna'Mor. Ranna'Mor was said to contain in its borders 7 warriors. These warriors had once unleashed a veritable hell upon the ancient world, until they were locked away. My name is Toriad, and I am one of those warriors. Our return is approaching. Do not run away, do not cower in fear; take solace in your final days, for that is all we can do. -Legend of Ranna'Mor

Halo: Reach has been production since late 2007. By the release, it will have been a standard Bungie 3 year cycle.

Halo Wars was not produced by Bungie. Bungie only collaborated for the story.

Finally, ODST was a side project, yet

it doese'nt look nextgen , looks good but not nextgen
If by next-gen you mean crappy, dark and colorless, I agree. It doesnt look next-gen at all.

Bungie said before Halo 3 shipped out that they were already working on their next project. Many thought it was ODST since it was announced but we later found out that ODST was a side project and it only took one year to make so, there is your answer.
