Subject: Halo Reach Trailer Flaw

Im a big fan of halo and all. Ive read all the books, correct me if im wrong but in the halo reach trailer a person said "This is sierra 259 we got spartans on the ground." another voice says "This is sierra 320 prepped for combat insertion."

Those two quotes would mean that there are more than 150 SpartanIIs. So already im seeing bungie's wrong in the correct halo reach story. Post comments!

I'll be on my own side.

Nobody ever said that there's more than 150 Spartans.

seeing that bungie created halo it means they can't be wrong with anything they do canon-wise in the game. and just because they said sierra doesn't necesarily mean that it is a spartan. Sierra is S in the phonetic alphabet.

Nobody ever said that Sierra 320 and 259 are Spartans either. Could be a team name, could be a pelican, could be whatever.

"This is Sierra-259. You've got Spartans on the ground, sir. We're not going anywhere." Not Spartans. Right.

Sierra doesn't only mean Spartan. It could also refer to pelicans, ODST squads, etc.

God searchbar please. Anyway, have you considered that its Sierra 2-59? Possibly for Spartan 2 #59

I'm the cult of personality,
I call it like i see it, if i feel the need to be blunt and to the point, then i will, if i feel the need to be very detailed, i will, im here to stay and im here to do things my way, if you respect that or not is your choice, not mine,
and don't worry, while i don't agree with everyone's opinion, i do respect everyone's opinion.

That's a valid point, but I've never heard of a Spartan referring to themselves as a Spartan 2.

how is that a facepalm? Sierra doesn't mean spartan, sierra means S. The reason eveyone thinks that Sirra 259 is a spartan is because the only time we've ever heard sierra ingame is when they refered to master chief.

That's because there were multiple spartan programs. Master chief and the other spartans on reach were all spartan 2's(second spartan group), while the spartans in ghosts of onyx are spartan 3's (third spartan group)

The only people that knew about the Spartan 3 project were the Spartan 3's themselves, the people training them, and the highest of ONI officials. Meaning; your point is invalid.

WHATS UP EVERYBODY

sierra in halo does mean spartan and their are secret spartans[im guessing]that are higher than the original spartan2s

If somebody's opinion is being smashed and nobody's helping, I try and help. I use logic and extensive vocabulary (and sometimes self-destructive circular reasoning) to confuse my enemies into submission. Fear me, trolling, fapping creatures of the night. For I. Am your worst nightmare.

Spartan 59 is dead. 59 was Malcom. If you've read First Strike you know he died when Red Team had to bail out of the Pelican in low orbit. He was pulverized on impact. Died when he hit the ground. So we dont play as Spartan 2-59, because he's dead.

My point about the Spartan 3's is irrelevant. I was just showing how Spartans may call themselves by their group number. Of course, I understand I may be wrong, as Spartan 59 of the Spartan 2 program (Malcolm)died in a crash landing on Reach. Meaning: You're not listening.

No! Why does everyone think that Sierra means Spartan just because one Spartan has been called Sierra. Sierra could mean anything and in this case it could easily be a squad of marines.

First Strike is after the events of Fall of Reach. If the game is based on The Fall of Reach, like most people think it is, Malcolm would be alive.

However, to the people who are saying that he might be calling himself Sierra 2-59, they don't call themselves like that, if anything, he would say Sierra 2-059; that's just the way they say it.

Though I think that he might be a pelican pilot, refering to the fact that he has dropped off Spartans. He might just be using the formal 'We'. Sierra 320, on the other hand, not sure about, as only one pelican was sent to drop off the Spartans (Pretty sure).

Edit: Sorry, was he killed in the beginning of the book while it's still the fighting on Reach? If so, then forget what I said in the first paragraph.

Non Nobis Nascimur - We are not born for ourselves.

Do people not realize Sierra is "S" in the military alphabet?

Join these great communities. Make sure you say balance13 is your referal.

S is sierra and could be anything possibly a service number, so a spartan could have a different letter such as T-tango, or F-foxtrot.

Sierra whatever could have been a pelican or a squad commander reporting

I honestly don't think we're going to know for sure what that means until the game comes out. Did Bungie go against canon and add more Spartans? Maybe. Does Sierra 259 refer to an already existing Spartan or a different group of soldiers? Maybe.

I don't really find the point in belaboring a line in the trailer in an attempt to figure something out. Personally, I like being surprised, so I'll wait for the game to come out.

Yeah, I understand your point. But I don't remember any instance where a Spartan 2 referred to themselves as such. And the Spartan 3's refer to themselves as Spartan A-000, the A standing for Alpha or whichever group the graduated from. Anyway we won't know what Sierra truly means until Bungie lets us know.

By the way, we just demonstrated that 2 Bungie forum users can disagree about something peacefully. ;)

My thoughts exactly but if something i have learned from watching and analyzing trailers for Bungie games its that not everything is as they want you to believe it is. A marine team who would've received an order to retreat could be saying that after seeing the Spartans hit the ground.
