The Carbine can fire 6 shots faster the BR can fire 4

That would mean something, if it didn't take 8 carbine shots to kill someone.

It is a well established fact that the battle rifle is superior to the carbine... do you even play this game?

Three bullets per shot times 4 shots to get a kill equils 12 bullets.

Anyways, Carbine kills faster.

Personally, I think an actual "skilled" person in Halo 3 is someone who knows how to win with every weapon and combo in the game, not just a single weapon like the BR, Sniper, or even the AR. Of course, that excludes me, as I have yet to get a kill with dual plasma pistols. :D

I'm just going to put my post from a different topic about the same thing here.

I've read some posts in this topic about how there should be two options, since burst fire is better for close range and single shot is better for long range. This is completely true. And it's why the BR should be single shot.

The original purpose of the gun, so I heard, was to be a counter to the sniper. It's not powerful by any standard, but it has very good range and accuracy, great for harassing them by making it impossible for them to stay scoped. The best way to actually make the BR be used for its intended niche instead of as a do-all would be to change it to single-shot.

Now, I'm not saying that the BR should become useless for everything except unscoping Snipers. It could still be used to kill people in the same amount of time, it would just be more difficult to do so. It would be like how some people use the laser to kill players walking around, instead of the vehicles it's meant to counter. It can still kill anyone, but it's more difficult than killing what it's a counter to.

"But what about having a medium-ranged gun with good damage?"

Carbine. It would be much more suited for killing random players than a single-shot BR would be, but the spread would stop it from infringing on the BR's territory, damaging far-away enemies.

im on the fence about this. For me it all comes down to how fast would a single shot br shoot?

Make it a 2-shot. Then everyone will be happy!

No, not at all

If the covenant needs a mid-range weapon to counter the BR, then the humans need a small gun with heatseeking capabilities to counter the Needler.

Covenant have no shotgun. Needler is their specialty, just like shotgun is ours. It's like...a miscellaneous weapon.

Average 3 and 1. What do you get? (Hint: 2)

The fact remains that the weapon still bursts, and players can still sweep shoot. When the weapon is single shot, you can't sweep shoot, which makes the gun have a greater skill gap.

Inky- I was being sarcastic in that post I made earlier

really? single shot is better and it will make MLG have to try something new besides the br unless they are going to just keep the single shot.

Everything will be gone long before me. When the first living thing was born, I was here, waiting. When the last living thing dies, my job is finished. I'll put the chairs on the tables, turn out the lights and lock the universe behind me when I leave.

I think Bungie just got sick of people -blam!-ing about the 3 shot burst spread, so they "fixed" it ;)

I'm the cult of personality,
I call it like i see it, if i feel the need to be blunt and to the point, then i will, if i feel the need to be very detailed, i will, im here to stay and im here to do things my way, if you respect that or not is your choice, not mine,
and don't worry, while i don't agree with everyone's opinion, i do respect everyone's opinion.

better yet REMOBE THE BR COMLETELY a.k.a no BR in Reach i think we can all agree on that.

-I know what you're thinking, and it's crazy.
-But... what if monkeys really could fly?

Or maybe because the carbine didn't have a 10 sized clip.
To be balanced that weapon has to be quite powerful.

How to spell "space"?

S-P-ACE! SPACE!

Where's the "Br should be removed to make a fun game" option? Halo 3's campaign was a cakewalk with the BR, without... it's not, and it's more fun.

  • 11.06.2009 3:14 PM PDT

Simply just remove the BR, or keep the burst thing and reduce it's power and accuracy. Then I might use it... Even thought I'm more fan of the Covenant weapons.

Im not going to talk about anything that i shouldnt...however, i have heard some widespread speculation that basically states that the beloved Battle Rifle is now void of its signature 3-Shot-Burst!

I will remain to support Bungie even if it has been transformed into a single-shot weapon, but i will do so with a grain of salt. The BR is a classic staple of Halo online play. Us players have grown accustomed to its uniquely familiar "Ttrraaaat Ttrrraaat Trraaaaat!"

Im all for a new, single-shot, human-based weapon to act as a direct counter to the carbine, but i still think the BR should retain its burst fire.

So, what do u guys think about this? Are you in favor of a new, sinlge-shot BR, or do you want it to keep its classic 3-Round-Burst?

dude...just shut up -_-

youre just a typical halo 3 BR lover. change is a good thing you tool. making the BR into a single shot would make it so the BR requires a lot more "skill" to use (i hope to add a lot of recoil to the gun too to make it even harder to master). currently in halo 3 the BR has an extremely overpowered head shot ability. it only takes 1 of the 3 bullets to kill you when you have no shields. my theory on bungie's reason for doing that design was latency issues. but from what they were saying in the weekly update about play testing, it looks like they are doing an even better job with the problem in halo reach.

you are clearly less intelligent than your ego suggests...

i clearly said i would be all for a new gun that shoots similarly to the carbine, and if not that, then i would still support a new single-shot BR, but wouldn't prefer it...therefor i am open to change..
