Hey guys, I was just wondering what you guys think about the apparent return of health in Halo: Reach. Honestly, I think it's appropriate, as it is a game that takes place before Halo: CE. Plus I'll gladly welcome back the more cautious gameplay that non-regenerating health kind of requires. What do you think?

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

I hope it has Health, it keeps the tension up during the game and makes it harder.

Steven

I can see how it would help balance the game. It slightly levels the playing feild for new players. On the other hand, the the number of killing sprees, frenzies, etc will be reduced. Everybody enjoys achieving those. But, i guess it will just be that much more rewarding when you do get one.

I'm personally really stoked about it. I didn't like how the health was in ODST. I could never tell when my stamina was gone and my shields were about to drain. I also hated the health bar they had in place. I think the little health "cells" in the leaked pics and in CE make it a lot easier to perceive how much health you have left.

  • 11.06.2009 8:09 AM PDT

who said health requires cautios gameplay?

run and gun FTW!

The less than a second latency of online play is a better system to play off of than more health.

You realize this system is just as host based, right? because if you're fighting host, or someone with a better connection to host, and you each start firing at the same time, his BULLETS will register first, giving him slightly more health if the melees happen at the same time.

So would you rather have the BS of both, or just one?

It all depends how the regeneration of health is handled.

WARNING RIGHT HERE, THOUGH I TRY TO KEEP IT CLEAN MY POST MAY BRUSH ON MATERIALS THAT COULD BE CONSIDERED LEAKS, READERS BE WARNED.

If we follow the halo 1 model of designated health recharge points then I may end up disliking the game. As much as I love halo 1 it did have a certain awkwardness that made some larger maps rather annoying to play. When you must trek all the way back to your base to heal up after a fight it can get a little tedious.

If however the maps in general have more "accessible" health recharge points (like in central areas where players would be expected to actually be fighting) or even some type of player ability to stop and heal one's self or comrades then it could work. However we will simply have to WAIT AND SEE what Bungie actually ends up putting in the game.

Then fight right, and dont get shot, and if you decide to trek back, thats you. Id perfer random health placements, more then always knowing where it would be

Ugh...

First on a BWU.. yeah, I'm cool.

ODST;MYTHIC Screenshot winner! One of the first to get their hands on the mythic map pack.

If Halo: Reach does have health, I'm hoping it isn't incorporated into the match-making of it all. Other-wise I can forsee problems with the multi-player.

If it does have health in multi-player match-making I would hope that the health slowly recharges.

Something like Halo CE's health system. Of course they should be weaker because the Spartans there haven't received their Mark V armor yet.

I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

Not true, actually. As you can replenish that health, and actually INCREASE your chances of Killing Sprees in comparison to Halo 3.

dunno but health packs are going back to the generic health pack days of FPS, and Halo was the one that changed that, hopefully its more of the rechargeing shields. and bit of health packs.

There are those who said this day would never come. What have they to say now?

Health works in Single player.
Not Multiplayer.

The idea that because it is at an earlier time the armor should be worse is a bad one. It is a GAME not a novel.

If the game plays better one way vs the other it can easily be explained with some technical mumbojumbo after the fact.

I've played all the games and ultimately I'd prefer not having health. If they want some mechanic like that I'm sure they've thought of other things like multiple shield levels or something.

It was sometimes fun to deal with health and sometimes annoying as it broke the flow. I think Halo is great because of its flow so I would rather it be kept similar to Halo 2/3.

Exactly.

If the health doesn't regenerate multiplayer will be all about controlling health packs. If the health does regenerate then whats the point? Its the same as having 2 shields then.

Wort wort wort

I would love it but only in campaign.

Multyplayerpaps would run out of health packs to fast

Multiplayer would only be about controlling health packs if the energy shield is so weak it is depleted in like one bullet, and the majority of your longevity was determined by your health and not your shield.

No one bothered controlling health packs in CE because it only had a marginal impact on survival.

IIRC correctly, if you had one red health bar and a full shield it would still take three shots to get killed by the pistol, just like full health... But if you had like 1/4 shield and 1 red bar of health left one pistol bullet (to the head) would kill you instantly.

Health packs worked fine for years.

Infact, it STILL works great on Halo PC.

Maybe I will never be
All the things that I wanna be
But now is not the time to cry
Now's the time to find out why
I think you're the same as me
We see things they'll never see
You and I are gonna live forever

Bring back the Halo CE health.

The last time I tried to make a quote, a car smashed through my wall and the tire hit my grandmother in the other room. But for those of you who can haz once more between five, I say it will be five between seven divided by zero multiplied by Chick Norass and Broce Tee.

Sorry but when in a head to head BR battle lets say, and both opponents are equally matched, but one has lower health then the other, well then the person with more health will win. Which is why controlling health packs would be a major commodity.(sp?)

Hope they do, seems the ninjas are sleeping.

There was a pre-Nov 5 Health related thread, i suggest you all go post there and read the discussion. Doubt it will change anything. Some people will be against it, some will go for it.

I remember mentioning something about how having shield and health could balance things out like it does in ODST's single player, where covenant weapons are great against shields, but weak against health where human weapons seem to be the other way around.

  • 11.06.2009 11:05 AM PDT

About me: I am a vicious wolf of a man.

But really am sweet at heart. =)

It would be nice in single player but it would be difficult in multiplayer. An option to turn health on and off would be nice.

The ninjas aren't sleeping, they're just in Zimbabwe right now taking care of buisness. You know.

"You must be mistaken, Reclaimer. I've met your makers, and they don't even know your name..."

I'd like Health Packs, but with one caveat: after I've used one, I'd like to be able to pick up a second and take it along (think Left 4 Dead), so I wouldn't have to backtrack all the way across the level to get to it again.
