I would although I think for $50 a year it should be standard.

There are two random factors that upset me about Halo 3 (and Halo 2):

BR Spread (I give my reasons here)

Connection Issues

As far as connection issues I think all games should have dedicated servers to reduce if not eliminate network exploiting and manipulation, and to reduce lag. This of course would allow for the random factor to be reduced and enhace the competitiveness.

It just seems like a step forward in the gaming industry.

Good, bad, I'm the guy with the clichéd lines.

No. I'm not gonna pay for XBox Live and for a dedicated server.

B.U.N.G.L.E. Games wouldn't be laggy anymore if we had dedicated servers right?

Yeah, I'm going to pass on that.

Last Refuge - Operation Phoenix is in effect. From the ashes, we will rise.

Uh, no. The last thing I want is servers for Reach. I mean, unless it is truly massive, then I think it should just be standard.

i really dont see them putting servers all around the world, it would cost way to much for the slight benefit

Why? The cost severely outweighs the the benefit. It would maybe solve host benefit and bridging, but that's about it.

Dude how expensive do you think a dedicated server is to host.
Dont think its that expansive Ea has there own dedicated server on 360 and they are the only company allowed i believe to have there own server by microsoft. The difference is day and night on a low end bandwidth connection. But bungie/microsoft has to place server in every continent or atleast has several server parks in high population area.

Or they could push the costs down and go the sector 8 way where the community makes and pays for the dedicated servers. Havent heard a thing about that system they used in section8

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

THQ has them for games larger than 16 players.

Do yourself a favor and find out how much it costs to maintain 1 server. Then multiply that by each city in each country that has Xbox 360s. Then you have a rough estimate of how much it would cost to do this for Reach.

EA is a lot bigger than Bungie are are based all around the world, wheres bungie is US only. this would mean they would have to hire servers from different companys around the world and there would have to be a heap of servers because halo games always have a high population.
yeah they could hire them from microsoft because they have a close relationship with each other but the costs will still be there.
its also not very practical because they will need heaps of servers for when the game comes out but then they will have to take servers offline as the population goes down and as new DLC comes out the population will rise again and they will have to set up the servers again.

just so you know im all for dedicated servers if they are based all around the world but i just dont see how it would benefit bungie as a company

For every action, there is an equal and opposite airstrike.

If the rookie Section 8 can do it, the dreadnought that is Halo should be able to drum up a few dedicated servers.

Let's also say that Bungie has all the money in the world to do this. One more problem with dedicated servers, is that they have a definite limit. Once every server is maxed out on players (especially at launch/high traffic times), no more people can play online.

Also, once a game reaches its end of service life, the servers would have to be shut down since the game is no longer bringing in a suitable profit. Meaning no more online play ever again for that game. Just look at EA. The only reason Halo 2 matchmaking still exists is because the matchmaking servers are relatively inexpensive to maintain compared to dedicated ones.

I would consider paying for dedicated servers..... but really Xbox Live should sort this out. We're already paying them for online service.

Dedicated servers could mean decent big team battles though, and I'm all for a 16v16 gametype.

If you don't know who I am, the feeling is mutual.

Now that I consider it, shouldn't it be Microsoft's job to handle servers if Sony can pump out an online service for free?

Still, I wouldn't pay extra for servers. LIVE is enough.

With all 32 people that play it.

Matchmaking is good enough the way it is. Dedicated servers are too much of a hassle to do right with a game the scale of Reach.

What is this, Phantasy Star Universe? I'm paying for my internet, I'm paying for XBL, why the heck should I pay another fee just so I can play one game?

If people are willing to pay for dedicated servers.
Why not offer it free and do some advertisement when you are connecting or loading a level that should pay the cost for the dedicated servers. With the massive amount of players that are playing.

I really think thats the way we will get dedicated servers for consoles. just keep the dedicated server for the big battle types. And keep the 4vs4 part of the online p2p.
