Halo: Heretic or Hero---An Elite's Story
Choose your own destiny

In Halo: CE, I felt like it was my duty to protect those guys for as long as I could, because they could provide me with a huge advantage throughout the level (assuming they decide to follow you and not stand around staring at each other)

In Halo 2, the Marines suddenly got 'balanced', and, henceforth, they were nothing more than cannon fodder, and not even worth protecting. The Elite allies, however, were amazing. I tried my best to preserve them in the levels as the Arbiter. (Not too mention those Hunter allies in the Great Journey!)

Then, there was Halo 3. It was as if Marines were hoping to get a mouth full of plasma grenade. They had no value whatsoever.

My point being, Reach needs Marines that actually help you out, make you want to protect them, and come in large numbers (think end of 343 Guilty Spark, Truth and Reconcilliation or the level 'Halo') to create epic encounters

Stuffz....

True statement is true.

+1 internet for you mister.

  • 11.06.2009 4:43 PM PDT

True. They need serious improvement. They should die from plasma faster (see books) and should try to avoid getting shot.

Screw the marines. You are a spartan in a squad of five spartans. Bungie must nail the friendly AI perfectly or there is no point in creating the game.

"Everything works itself out. The only thing that matters is whether you want it to or not."

Last Refuge - Operation Phoenix is in effect. From the ashes, we will rise.

I completely agree with you on that, good sir.

You think that you are going to be alongside four other Spartans for the entire game? Unlikely. There will most certainly be times where you are forced out on your own to provide that 'You are a walking tank' feel.

Sometimes that walking tank gets toasted and served with a side of whoop-ass. That's we need Marines' aid.

I'd just like to be able to give a rocket launcher to Marine knowing that he won't just fire it straight at the other Marines or right at the back of my head.

Agreed. Friendly AI needs a HUGE transformation.

Also, why is it that ODST's in Halo 3's Campaign don't seem any more efficient than Marines? Or is that just me?

I don't care, I only use them as a distraction, pack-mule, or a gunner/passenger with a power weapon.

They are significantly better than normal Marines. They fire with power weapons from massively long ranges and a ODST gunner on a Hog will pick things apart from (in gameplay terms) hundreds of yards away.

In Halo 3: ODST, Bungie did an excellent job on the ODST AI. They were very good.

Huh? The AI ODST's were INVINCIBLE.

Or did you mean the game's AI as a whole?

That's mostly because they were absent most of the time. When they were there, all they did was sit and shoot.

At the end, Buck was next to useless on the turret (Still, he was extremly good looking) and I was so thankful for the tank. Bungie has to improve the AI as the enemies need to feel dangerous and the hired help has to feel useful.

you are totally right. we need HALO CE marines. they were tons more useful than the marines in halo 3. plus we felt the urge to protect them. read this.

Some good points in that thread as well. They also came in greater number in CE, so even if you lost one you still had a few to back you up.

Good point, the standard marines in odst where the most rubbish ones ever.

  • 11.07.2009 5:34 AM PDT

There are two things on this forum that piss me off;
Idiots and group invites.
What's even worse, is that I can never seem to get away from either of them ¬_¬
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"I would have been your daddy, but the dog beat me over the fence."

In Halo 3, even the Elites where useless. How many people played Floodgate, got to the point where a squad of Elites dropped in, only to find a pile of Elite corpses? They where pathetic ¬_¬

I have to agree, I do hope that the AI in this game is greatly improved and I mean GREATLY improved. I want them hiding behind walls, giving blind fire, getting wounded, flanking the enemy ETC

Everything you might expect a normal solider to do. Well, maybe not quite that realsitic, but as close as Bungie can get!

  • 11.07.2009 5:40 AM PDT

i agree that CE marines were great i mine i felt bad when i was alone and they were all dead.i think however that marines are useless on halo 3 cause u are a super killing mashine on ur own u dont need them.on halo CE u were weak,u needed them to fight while u were trying to find a health pack etc.i think marines will be more useful on reach like 3 marines escortung a spartan

  • 11.07.2009 5:46 AM PDT

lol yea, when the elites dropped in the, they totally got owned by the flood.
