Now I'm not talking about the Escort gametype which can be fun every once in a while on LAN. Really underrated. I'm talking about Escort missions in campaign. You know? Captain Keyes? Virgil? DARGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHE!!!!!

Escort missions are terrible. Period.

Every escort mission I have ever played sucked. They are always slow and can't do anything! They expect me to do EVERYTHING by myself!

escort missions can be fun... as long as the person you are escorting isnt to easy to kill like I dont want to have to be jumping in front of anyone so the mission continues yes the person is alive but now I have no health... escorting dare was fine it just took skill it wasnt to hard.. I soloed on legendary to a while....

My problems [with Reach] are basically just full parties, mlg, and people who go out of their way not to get killed.

No, escort missions are usually bad. The escortee is usually slow, stupid, and annoying.

The only escort mission I can imagine for Reach is Admiral Whitcomb. Other than that, Reach has no need for an escort mission.

EVERY escort mission in EVERY game is ALWAYS has more flaws than freaking BIG RIGS!!!

No it was boring

but it would make sense to escort a fellow wounded Spartan back to the HQ.

What HQ?

  • 11.06.2009 10:31 PM PDT

A temporary Spartan HQ, base or armory

just a thought

I have no proof of a base being in the game I was just saying

I didn't blow up the sun so you kids could brag about it! Now get out there and fight some aliens!

I don't mind escort style missions, so long as it doesn't matter if the person 'or' thing you're escorting dies.

Escort missions done wrong are long, dragged-out sessions of linear gameplay. Whereas a traditional battle is creative and concise, you must follow the controlled NPC in an escort mission at a preset speed within the game that rarely changes.

If they do escort missions, they better remember how to make them fun. Give the players some freedom, and don't punish them for playing the game the way they always play it without providing an equally enjoyable alternative.

I wasn't really looking for a specific name or anything, I was just saying that because pretty much everything on Reach is destroyed.

Good, bad, I'm the guy with the clichéd lines.

Escort missions. Because it's so fun making sure some dumb AI that you don't care about doesn't die.

  • 11.06.2009 10:43 PM PDT

Why is there math on the pie?

Just about all escort missions turn into either:
A) Using the person you're supposed to "protect" as a meat shield
or
B) The retarded AI trying to attack everything within a hundred feet, disregarding any possible flicker of a basic sense of self-preservation.

Escort mission might be fun if your trying to be a medic and grabbing wounded and transport them in a warthog from check point to checkpoint and all that jazz.

If they are like escorting Captain Keyes in HaloCE - yes and yes

  • 11.07.2009 1:21 AM PDT

Escorting Captain Keyes hardly even comes off as an escort mission. It wasn't until years later when I played back through Halo CE, that Keyes died and I had to restart. I didn't even know it WAS an escort mission!

Escorting Virgil in ODST was complete crap. I find it hard to believe that they would just drive right into enemies and get pwned so hard. Smart Engineer my ass. Maybe if they had hung back until you cleared the way, and then proceeded, it would have been believable.
