CRYENGINE 3

Bungie said that they are using an in-house game engine.
Meaning an engine built by them.

I wouldn't be upset if they did use CryEngine 3, far from it, but Bungie does just about everything inside of their office.

Awesome isn’t just a word. Awesome is a way of life. Awesome is a way of war. Teamwork matters the most. Lone Wolves jeopardize the missions. Teamwork is key. Resistance is futile. The covenant fear us, not the other way around. We don’t fight for Earth. We don’t fight for Reach. We fight for the good of mankind because we are A.W.E.S.O.M.E. Holy crap! I hope your right, because that looks awesome.

It wasn't even a guess. It's Ubisoft's.

Bungie is and has always used an engine developed by themselves in office, made specifically for the Xbox 360 hardware.

The Budget for Halo Reach is probably much larger than any other Bungie game created. By now the engine is probably nearing completion, and gameplay spaces are being polished with graphical goodness.

Success is just going from failure to failure without a loss of enthusiasm.

I wish they would use it though. *sigh*

Armor Lock isn't overpowered. You just suck at Reach :)

Reach isn't bad, you're just a BK :)

For my gamertag, look up "Ghoulishtie"

Yeah, I KNOW!

Only one problem with the video....It has on it 'playstation 3'. So it officially fails.

Bungie used the Havok engine for Halo 2 and 3.

On topic, this engine looks friggin awesome.

  • 11.07.2009 12:06 PM PDT

Yes, the CryEngine 3... it's pretty neat but what does this have to do with Reach?

ya, gotta know who you are...

I know they didn't, and seriously hope they don't.

This thread has been repeated too many times. Cryengine 3 is old news. Bungie always makes their own stuff and does it well. The new engine will be top of the line, but you have to think of the Xbox 360's hardware limitations, and the RROD rate. They could make an awesome engine but then everyone's 360s would be melting down from the poor design and lack of proper cooling.
Bungie will push the 360 as far as it will go, you don't have to worry about that.

Havok was a large part, but to say that they used "the havok engine" is wrong. Havok is software. A standard accepted by M$ game studios for getting the most out of the 360.

Havok is the table. Then you build on top of that table and do what you please with the surface you are given. Granted Havok is a big table. It's more of a standard you build upon, not a finished product. Bungie designed their own engine in the studio.
