Subject: Ability to break weapons.

I always thought this would be a good idea in MM. Have you ever thrown a weapon off a map to get it out of play? To make that easier, i think there should be an option to break a weapon so you can take it out of play until it respawns.

This would add a new tactical element to the game, by making you decide if you want to use a weapon and possibly die and having the enemy grab it, or just break it so no one can have it.

My problems [with Reach] are basically just full parties, mlg, and people who go out of their way not to get killed.

I have always wanted to smash someone's head off with my rifle. Gears of War style? Kind of. I like that kind of kill.

BoxOfBlades

that would be good 4 machinima, nothing else.seems unfair to just wait till sumthing spawns then break it

I have had this idea floating around in my head for a long time. Just now decided to post it to see what people think about it.

One can only hope that Bungie reads this. surely this idea wouldn't be that hard to implement.

No.

I liked this mechanic in Gore/ AVP2

It was the only thing that kept me alive sometimes. If you can't snipe, and don't want them to snipe, destroy the sniper rifle.

The only downfall i can see with this is if one guy just runs around the map breaking every weapon he sees. This would be extremely annoying. Yet at the same time, it would be simple to stop, just kill him or get to the weapons first.

What a pointless and worthless addition that would be...

Eliminating the rockets or sniper(s) from The Pit would be pointless? I think that it would give your team a much better chance of survival, knowing that you just took out the rockets, you would not have to worry about getting blasted from them.

Rock + Metal = Life
Simple math

Sounds intresting, but I'm not sure right now if it is good or bad...

Have you made up your mind yet?

you can just shoot the gun and waste the ammo, that's what I do when I'm being rushed and I have a power weapon

  • 11.08.2009 7:25 PM PDT

ive thought about this too. but what i was thinking of was that the weapons would only be breakable if someone was holding/using it. to break the weapon though, u have to use some gun such as a sniper rifle, or a fully charged plasma pistol (any single shot gun that has a hard impact and damage).

One does not simply walk into Halo.

Or you could think of weapons breaking down on their own after a certain amount of time. Power weapons break down faster and if you keep getting ammo, it doesn't help. More normalized weapons will break down more slowly and since they are more likely to be lying on the floor, you can use one to repair your weapon. For game types with unlimited ammo, guns won't have break-ability used.
This can add strategy and also reintroduce a good element from Halo 3.

Lookin forward to reach. just like to Have fun

-take it easy- Ryan

Know heres the question. would u be able to destroy the weapon instantly, just by the click of a button. or would it take a few seconds. This would change things like in the pit. the rocket rush in the beggining. would someone just be able to sacrfice them slef and run up and destroy it really quickly. If that option was in halo 3 lol.

This idea would be cool for custom games, but other than that, it would slow down gameplay way to much. I could see this only in custom infection games, the humans weapons start breaking and the zombies start getting in.

Not a bad idea. that would eliminate people running around breaking everything.

Maybe only certain weapons can destroy other weapons? Like the sword. You slice someone and it kills them/breaks the weapon at the same time. Of course it would only break the weapon if you slice them from the front.

It wouldn't make much sense if it broke from an assassination.

That would be neat, like in Far Cry 2 but more like it would be in the far future. Cutting weapons with swords would be awesome.

I think it would work best this way. To break the weapon it must be in your control and it takes two seconds to break. That way people wouldn't be able to rush rockets holding down the button to break weapons just to get them out of play instantly.

I guess, then people wouldn't complain about Humans having an advantage in Infection. I agree that custom games would become more interesting that way, and it doesn't really help Matchmaking at all, of course it would be impossible to actually break the weapon then in the current system. You repair a weapon by finding the same of its type which instantly repairs it. The only way the whole ammo doesn't repair it thing would work is if they introduced ammunition lockers that contained clips, magazines, etc. for certain weapons.

I've always wanted to break the rocket launcher on Narrows. Thus I agree.

There's already something like this in play now.

It's called killing the guy with the weapon and spending about 15 seconds emptying all the ammo and dropping it for the weapon you had.
