Subject: Driving a Pelican?

Only in campaign. It would be way too hard to balance for multiplayer. Either it would be worthless or its going to become the next banshee but bigger so your opponents can't dodge it as it grinds along the ground splattering everything.

to avoid the pelican being a splatter mashine it should need time to accelerate enough to be deadly and they we will be able to board it easily unless it comes from behind

well an easy way to fix this would be to have the pelican instantly blow up if it hits the ground at a certian speed, and also if it hits any scenary at a certain speed

thats a way to add realism while also stopping the splattering of people on ground

althuogh they could just hover abouve the ground and splatter people, but that would mean they would have to go slowly to be able to conform to the hills/scenary on the ground, but it would also make the pelican vulnerable to jacking.

also if they do add pelicans, they need large maps, aswell as the ability to add vehicles to the loading dock under the map... it would add soo much teamwork capibilities think of it like this.

****RESPLONSES MAY VARY FROM PERSON TO PERSON****

Person1: damn our vehicle blew up and were being surrounded by enemies and whenever we kill 1 more keep on respawning here, were taking cover in the warehouse(or any building), pelican driver either you prepair for a hot-pickup, or bring a scorpian, or else were screwed

Pelican Driver:Got it F92, Im comming in at low altitude get ready to be picked up out of the combat zone

OR ALTERNATE

Not sure about driving one, that would seem kinda....wierd. Flying one, well maybe but I don't see why. Big thing, almost no firepower, weak defense...do we really want to fly that?

I have played Halo:Custom Edition on PC which has drivable pelicans, scarabs, longswords and let me tell you this:
1. It's funny at first, but it gets boring after a while.
2. Giant maps NEVER EVER make good gameplay maps. NEVER. A map that's big enough for pelicans, has bad gameplay.
3. Max team size is 8, pelican seats is about 12 (I know it isn't that much of a deal, but whatever)

Is it fun to have to fly for 8 minutes to get to the other base, or drive your warthog for 10 minutes to get to the other flag? No, it gets boring for an actual matchmade game.

How do you jack a pelican? Climb around to the back, run inside past the other players, kill the pilot? Yeah, I don't really see that happening.

The simple fact is that you don't need a vehicle that can carry your entire team. You want carry team mates through the air? Use a hornet. You shouldn't put all your eggs in one basket.

I mean, it would be fine to have it in custom games or forge, but definitely not in default matchmaking.

that was my point, that that it would be too much hassle for its stage in developement, and that it would be too game unbalencing, as they would have to use tooo much code to actually make it fair, and for what to impress a few people. that was my point.

EDIT: also as for your jacking point, even if bungie did havea pelican in MP, who says bungie wouldnt of had the front windshields break... and you rip them out of the seat... or you know Punch the wind shield to break it and kill/rip them out; or press LT to punch throught the windshield with a grenade, therefore breaking the windshield and the controlls to the vehicle, therefore making it crash

Why would a pelican be jack-able? Was the Elephant jack-able? I think some vehicles can do without.

But if it isn't jackable then it becomes much harder for infantry to protect themselves from splattering, even if the pelican explodes it if touches the ground, because it just hovers slightly off the ground.

i dont want to pilot a scarab, but watching a cutscene where spartans commandeer one would be good.

i defineately think the 360 can handle a pelican BTW

Well for the elephant it kinda was jackable as you climbed on board and killed the person and took it, but jacking wasnt needed becasue it was a "SLOW MOVING GROUND UNIT" as in you could climb in it... but nobody uses the elephant therefore helping my point that the pelican wouldnt be used because only noobs use the elephant

i would only allow a pelican if it was a map special item like the elephant, it was fun the first time you saw it, it added some goals for people, as in flipping it, and makikng it fly, and it served for machinima purposes also

That's true, but I don't thik the pelican will be very good for multiplayer anyways, other that forge or custom games. And you'd need really big maps for them to be actually effective, (and when I say big, I mean REALLY big) and with my experience on Halo CE and flyable pelicans, those big maps aren't fun, simply because they're too big and have no good gameplay in them.

I think this adaption would be good for multyplayer games, but as I said on the Scarab thread, it would require a huge map, that will take a lot of XBOX 360's resources, can the XBOX 360 handle this well? Also, what could be the real benefit to drive a pelican when all the other team rush to the enemy without doing any team work?

in the first halo I remember someone modding it to have the pelican flyable and you could pick up people and drop them off and there wasn't a problem at all. also yea big maps would be needed but think of a big one sided flag match, the pelican would be dropping troops off and wouldn't have any firepower. Besides the pelican would probably be destroyed by rockets, a tank, or a laser.

Too often, people post on forums and just regurgitate what they've seen already and don't really explain their own views. - achronos

I'd like to see a pelican only if it functions like the elephants, indestructible and it can be controlled by either team.

I want one. If not in Matchmaking, just stick it into Forge. It's be epic for Forge games, epic for Machinima.

Agreed. Halo: CE-style Skydiving, anyone?

It stills, will the XBOX 360 handle that? Halo Custom Edition's mods are kinda good, because now computers are far more advanced than that. But we're talking about a game that should run smooth in 1080p HDMI, this means there are some limits, also, lets keep in mind that the XBOX 360 is becoming old with time, anytime soon they will have to launch another console due to the fact the graphics are improving and also space requirements per game.

Mike Lowery: [singing] Bad boys, bad boys what ya gonna do? What ya gonna do when we come for you?
[Marcus starts ad-libbing the first verse]
Mike Lowery: Dude, you gotta learn the words.
Marcus Burnett: We usually only do the chorus

actually it would be quite possible for the pelican to be used but it would serve no real purpose
as a vehicle it would propably not carry as many passengers as it realisticly would for gameplay and would not serve any real matchmaking purpose
