So I was thinking about how some are saying that reach might be class based. But what makes me not like the idea is that it just does not work with Halo. I was trying to figure out how come it works with COD, but not Halo, and I realized its the weapons. A sniper class would be extremely cheap in Halo because of how much more powerful it is to the AR. They would need to make the aitomatic guns stronger to balance it out. What other ways could a class based Halo work?

The fact of the matter is that if Bungie wanted to make a class based first person shooter it would be easier for them to create an entirely new intellectual property for that game than trying to adapt Halo to be something it never was.

"Violence isnt the answer, but it sure is the solution"

The only types of class that i think could work would be things like: Sprinter, Highjacker, Stealth and Ammo.

Weapons classes would ruin Halo completely.

NO CLASSES! God, no.. that's what CoD's for.
I like Halo as it is, being able to just pick up any gun that's on the map, rather than choosing your own at the start, especcially with the fact of some quite OP weapons in Halo that everyone would choose.

This is the general misconception with anti-class based opinions. If bungie were to make halo classed based like BF or TF2, I'm sure they would balance all weapons with eachother.

Or, you could have a class based game where you choose what weak starting weapon you spawn with and still have to hunt down the power weapons around the map. Hell, perhaps even have augmentations to your Spartan and/or weapons (either preset or configurable) that is available to all players (the opposite of CoD's system of rewarding good players with better stuff. Basically have everything available to everyone).

that would actually be a cool idea. And to those who say if you want a class system play COD, I dont really care if Halo has classes, but I'm wondering if there would be ways to make it work

Yea, because CoD is the only class based gamestyle. And if I don't like CoD's class style, then I don't like the idea altogether!

If there were classes, the power classes would be weaker and the crap classes would be stronger just so everyone wouldn't pick the same class.

Naturally. However then we start moving away from what really has made Halo popular, it's highly customizable multiplayer.

How do I make grifball if I'm forced to spawn as a sniper class or an assault class? How will my racing gametype ever work if people spawn as anti-vehicle classes and blow my mongoose off the tracks?

Even if you can customize the classes and number of classes so there is only one class that also spawn with the same weapon, it still won't work, because those weapons were balanced in a class based setting which you are now trying to adapt to a not-class based setting.

Best to keep Halo pretty much the same way it is. If Bungie wants to make a class-based multiplayer, they can easily do it with another intellectual property.

Good point, so why not make an option to turn off classes? I know what you are going to say next, "then why include classes at all?" Because my idea of classes (the second paragraph of my first post) combines the advantages of both class and non-class gameplay. Consider it a way to keep existing fans while at the same time branching out and attracting class based supporters. It would make Halo even more popular (is that even possible?).

Which can be a great thing for longevity. It's like you could play TeamSnipers on Boarding Action and then go play it on Prisoner. Some say that's a crap idea because the map is not designed for it, but every now and then it's damn fun.

Why not make Halo better if they can. We've already seen the old style for 4 games. How much they can improve from Halo3's bunnyhop contests? I always rather see new things in old franchises than see some new franchises started just because. I like Mario Party over "Mike" Party or "X" Party.

i wouldn't mind the idea if it was for only certain weapons. It would be cool to get to choose between the silenced smg, the ar, plasma rifle (if its good in reach) and any other good starting weapon they think of. Then for power weapons like splaser, rocket launcher, sniper, etc. you still have to pick up. if they do that, they should definately allow you to edit your starting gun. like paint it a color, put your emblem on it, etc.

If a perk system were potentially accepted into the final version of the game, that could be the only that would make a class-based multiplayer work. Sniper classes or heavy classes have way too much of an advantage over your standard AR/BR solider.

Unless some other means were available to balance out the classes, it wouldn't work.
