Supposing this is ever implemented, would everyone start off with a clean slate, or would some people start out slightly higher than others?

Will there be a limit to the number of different ranks? I know the group forums only allow for 15 different roles.

And the only rank I'm going to suggest is this: Gone Plaid.

Hmmm. Interesting thread you have here.

In reply to Captain K Mart, I think people should start off with a suitable rank depending on their history here rather than a clean slate. There would probably have to be a limit due to sotrage, performance etc.

Here's a few ideas i've come up with, though i do love some, like the bungie related ones:

* Anonomous User (Deleted)
* Member
* Elder Member
* Pfhor
* Forerunner
* Flaming Ninja
* Global Ninja
* Master Ninja
* Community Guy
* B.net Staff
* B.net Overlord

We could also use the military ranks if we're not creative enough to come up with our own titles.

If we aren't going to downgrade members if they are bad, we need to decide how many ranks there should be in between "Member" and "Forum Ninja".

The "i'am better than you because my member status is higher" scenario will most likely happen alot but i've never heard someone go i'am right because i joined earlier, so it might not be as bad. Saying that in Zanzibar there is alot of "i'am better because my halo2 rank is higher so your opinion doesn't matter" posters.

That would require the mods and Bungie forum guys go through and rate each forum goer one at a time.

A very good point. Individuals tend to be intelligent and responsible. People in general however, are incredibly stupid and can not be trusted to watch over a bowl of jello, much less be responsible for anything important.

Mob rule, especially in Zanzibar you hardly ever see a mod post in there its like a no go zone because whatever they do (e.g. locking threads) somebody will post the exact same thing 10 minutes later. Zanzibar is the most used forum and is the most abused. The flood is meant to be silly so i dont mind it really.

Is there such a thing as Bungie staff? I know there is a B.net Overlord but who is that?

It depends on what forum you go to, with the "I'm better than you because I'm older/better" thing. Underground would be nice and... nice. Zanzibar, meayh. The Flood... you'd have to have purple health to go in there.

I have a better idea, that's going to be ripped apart like a Master Chief shaped parcel at a comicon:

There is a ranking system, that is used by other Bungie.netters. Like, you can refer someone to move up a rank. BUT! At first, only the ninjas can do this. Then, if your level gets up enough, you (yes, you) can refer people! For good deeds and so forth.

No one can go down from the starting rank though, which is member.

And I still like my 'Favourite Game' idea, for the ranks.

How would you give a person rank? Through number of posts? Pfft bait for spam fishing that is. Post countign is gone for a reason you know, bungie themeselves said it was a stupid idea to implement it in the first place.

Oh feel free to talk about it and make ideas, but it will never happen.

There is one little problem with giving ranks like you have suggested. If you notice with the new theme master ranks that they supersede the ranks of the groups so if they gave this out to everyone groups ranks would mean nothing as the bungie rank is the only one that would be displayed.

I think they are already starting to do that. If you have been keeping up with the X-Box 360, there will be levels on your gamercard (or whatever its called) saying if you are casual, gamer, pro gamer, hardcore, serious, stuff like that.

I think we're getting ahead of ourselves here with all this talk of a rank system. I doubt we'll have much input in it.

You know we're talking about bungie.net, not Xbox, right Cobault?

Actually I think that is a very good idea, and it would work well, as long as Achronos could make the transition between Member and the other various ranks automatic. Meaning that after a Ninja gives you a certain amount of points, Bungie.net would automatically change your rank.

After reading some of the posts in this thread alone, and a belief in "mean jerk readers", I think these ranks would totally kick ass:

* Member
* Jerkface
* Big Stupid Jerk
* Flaming Jerk of a Ninja
* Overlord of the Jerks

I'm not flaming either, jerks. I just think everyone is a jerk. ;P

Nicely put @ss!

I go by many names, Shinigami, osiris, thanatos, Ares are but a few. But my name is not important for i am god and i am coming for you.

i am a master of my trade with these two hands i create great works. What is it i do?? ... well lets hope for your sake you never find out.

Like guns?? so do we, join Halo Armory and you can too

i dont think bungie would be able to give you a title on what your posts are like as there are to many peole and they dont have enought time or cant bhe bothered but they could give you a rank depending on how many posts you make which could make people value your opinion more

No. Post count ≠ good poster.

Hm. Some sort of rating system would be cool. Where everyone got to give everyone else a score from 1 to 10. This might turn into a popularity contest though..

  • 07.11.2005 10:28 AM PDT

It was a cold day near the southern base in Blood Gulch. Cortana and I were relaxing over a game of Go Fish, WHEN OUT OF NO WHERE 700 BANSHEES CAME FLYING IN!!! I GRABED MY SPARTAN LASER AND LET HELL REIGN DOWN UPON THEM. I HOPPED IN THE NEAREST WARTHOG AND TOLD CORTANA TO GET IN.

I think that sort of a Karma idea would be good, like the one on the RvB site. Mods should have more Karma, so they could give it out if you report spam or something. Then the mods would be getting all sorts of spam threads sent to them, 50% of which would probably not even need locking.

i don't think a 'ranking system' is quite what they have in mind anyway. the whole "theme master" thing is probably just testing the waters for new types of titles given to those who contribue in different ways. it would only serve to encourage communal activity and increase your personal attachment and value of your account.

i think the 'member since:' tag should be removed as well, for similar reasons as the post count. it doesn't happen often, but i know some tend to take it as older = better/more trustworthy.

what? ...hey! stop looking at my join date! >:|

Hmmm... Yeah, I agree with that. All you have to do is click on someone's user name to see their profile, and then you can find their join date from their if you want.

I think if there is going to be a ranking system or something, it should be on how helpful you are in the community. Just because someone has more posts than someone, for example, doesn't mean they are better.
