Subject: Is it true that this is Bungie's last Halo game? Did I miss som...

Okay, first of all I know all about Bungie not being owned by Microsoft anymore and I know they had a contract with Microsoft that would end with Halo Reach but last I heard was that Bungie wasn't sure if they were going to continue with Halo or not.. and that was an article on IGN.

Today I was on Wikipedia (I know, I know) and the page said it was to be their last Halo game...now I know that is likely the case anyways but have they reached an agreement with a new publisher anyway?

Proud frenchie, elite fan, anthro artist not hellbent on yiff convention/pics/whatever, mature and intelligent forum guy, 4chaner, halo 2 lover and halo 3 hater.

well, first, you're mistaken : their contract did NOT include Reach.
they broke up with MS after H3 and before ODST.

and now they have confirmed that Reach will be their last halo game indeed, but they never said that MS would stop publishing their titles.
so there is no worries to have, they have a publisher (and even if MS stops publishing their games, which is unlikely, EA, activision and tons of others will be glad to do it).

or at least, that's how I see it.

ubisoft would do halo good

When Microsoft and BUngie split after Halo 3 was released Bungie was still under contract to Microsoft for a certain number of games I believe.

Anyways, can I get a link to where Bungie said this?

There is nothing wrong with Halo:Reach. We all just have our gripes about everything we don't like. Not liking something doesn't make it broken.

As long as Activision doesn't pick them up. Activision is everything that is wrong in this console generation wrapped up into one lying, cheating, money grubbing company that would monopolize entire genres in a second for a few extra dollars a day.

Happily married to Fatal_Coin_Vest since July 1st, 2009.

Thank you, Captain K Mart.

Good. I'm glad. It's not like I don't like Halo, I just want to see what else Bungie can do. It's sad that Bungie has become synonymous with Halo.

If this is true (which I believe it is), MS will most likely remain the publisher. They will just be publishing new games is all.

Unless of course, Bungie moves to a new console.

IW should never touch Halo btw.

I am really worried about Halo without Bungie...I'm hoping that Microsoft and Bungie come to a new partnership and lets Bungie work on a new game then come to a refreshed Halo.

I do not fear death, in view of the fact that I had been dead for billions and billions of years before I was born, and had not suffered the slightest inconvenience from it. ~ Mark Twain

I hope that they do it better, if that's possible. Or that the next company to make Halo would make more games.

So did BUngie say this in one of the weekly updates or what?

  • 11.09.2009 9:42 AM PDT

The answer is yes and no. Half of Bungie, or at least a good chunk, will continue the Halo series as the sister company "343 Industries". Bungie will go on and make other new titles.

Almost a ghost.

I hope this is the last Halo and they continue to update it for years.

Another Halo after this wouldn't do them any justice.

It has been claimed it will end the Halo series. Maybe they'll return to their roots and make a Halo themed RTS.

That sounds to me like a very biased opinon...

I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

343 is founded by Frankie from Bungie, and is comprised for the most part of people that worked for Bungie, Ensemble, AND Gearbox, all of which worked with Halo.

KILL IT WITH FIRE!!!!

Unfortunately, 7 is their max number: Halo 1,2,3, Wars, ODST, and Reach.... wait, that's only six. So is there going to be ONE more after Reach?

No. Like almost all of Ubisoft's games are mediocre.

Bungie (or Microsoft) sold the rights to the Halo franchise to 343 Industries, so after Reach, all future Halo games will not be made by Bungie

343 Industries is an internal game studio created by Microsoft to take over the Halo games after Bungie finishes Reach.

Nobody sold anything... Microsoft has owned the rights to the Halo franchise since they acquired Bungie in 2000. Even though Bungie invented the Halo IP, part of Microsoft's deal when they acquired Bungie was that Microsoft owns the Halo franchise.

343 is founded by Frankie from Bungie, and is comprised for the most part of people that worked for Bungie, Ensemble, AND Gearbox, all of which worked with Halo.

Mostly true, but their team still worries me. Frankie is awesome, but he's really a glorified community manager. He never wrote any plot or contributed anything to the actual Halo games. The only other announced member of the team that ACTUALLY worked on a first-party Halo game is Nathan Walpole, a 3d animator.

Corrine Yu is an Engine Programmer from Gearbox, but all Gearbox ever did was port the xbox version of Halo CE to PC. But she did work on Borderlands, Brothers in Arms, and the upcoming Aliens: Colonial Marines game.

Kenneth Scott, the Art Director for 343, worked for id.

Halo Wars was not developed by Bungie.

I just want the Halo series to end after Reach. I think Halo has gone on as long as it should.
