After extensive playing of Halo 3 Match Making, I found that I had some issues with the shotgun. Past a few feet: no damage. Close: instant kill. I think it's just too black and white, and not very realistic as a shotgun. In my opinion, if I drop someone's shields and melee them, I deserve the kill rather than the guy holding the shotgun camping in the corner.

To be honest, I don't see why they ever changed from the Halo CE shotgun. It had realistic range, but still took two shots to kill up close. This is the kind of shotgun that I would want to see in Reach.

So let me know what you think.

So by your reasoning we should just get rid of the shotgun and keep the mauler.

The shotgun in CE was more powerful and could kill in one hit provided you were in the right range. The only difference is that it did more damage at further ranges. So it could kill from a little farther or do significant damage

I wouldnt change it because the sword and hammer would gain a definite advantage over it

As for dropping someones sheilds and meleeing and then the shotgun kills you were you think you should of gotten the kill there are two things to blame. The melee system and XBL host. What your probably experiencing is latency

but bungie explains all the human weapons. Saying that probably by 2552 that we will have some chemical thats the size of a pin dot that can kill a whole room instead of projectile weapons

but its all to balance gameplay and make it appeal to players

Yeah because we all know even in armor, it would take two shotgun shots at close range to kill us, not one, Omg Duh

So lets take the most common CQC situation and lets see how this new shotgun would stack

meeting someone around the corner

Shotgun = Mauler
Shotgun < Hammer
Shotgun < Sword

Shotgun is the equalizer for the Sword and Hammer but it still has a chance to miss and the lunges are a bit of cheese. At least with the SG you got to aim somewhat

so overall a 2 shotter is a bad idea. You may as well say delete the shotgun and increase the maulers range

No, the shotgun would simply be useful for almost-point-blank, but not exactly. The Sword and Hammer dominate that. CE's shotgun had it right.

Have you played Halo CE lately? You do realize that it killed in one hit further then the current one does?

You know I am actually playing my friend 1v1 in it now

The halo CE shotgun is better in just about every aspect. Its a one shot weapon with a better effective range then the current one

My confortable zone is mid to long range. I don't like to go against it but it is a necessary and I will defend it even though I dont prefer it

to be honest the whole living dead playlist is pretty skilless escpecialy Brains and Speed Demons

I think the guns fine in regular matchmaking

I am sure the shotgun will change in a few things as its main design, however the far distance damage should be a bit improved. Nothing else is required, the shotgun is a near-fight weapon, isn't for sniping or shooting from a cover, its a weapon that you take and run on the enemy and shoot, hopefully without dieing.

It's one of the best weapons in Halo, any change that it might have, it will be good, and it will keep being one of the most badass weapons in the games.

It should have more range, but not HaloCE kind. If you got lucky you could kill a person standing halfway across HangEmHigh with 3 shots.

All weapons in CE were more powerful so just bringing shotgun back would be way overpowered. But because sword is instant kill up close, Shotgun should be different and have some more range with the cost of damage.

Ever heard of a thing called Trapshooting? You take a 12 gauge shotgun and shoot a disc thats about 5 inches wide and shoot it when its between 15-30 yards away launching straight out or at a 30 degree angle.

You could never do that with any of the halo shotguns

Agreed. The weapon is currently very unbalanced as it is in Halo 3. However it is due to host/connection advantage.
