Subject: Species in Reach

"I recken you don't come around these parts?"

Most likely we will encounter every species of the covanent in Reach. Some people say "there wont be any brutes because they aren't there until halo 2."
Well the brutes joined the covenant race in 2492 (Halo Encyclopedia)So i defiantly think we will be fighting all races
-Jackal
-Grunt
-Elite
-Prophet
-Hunter
-Drone
-Brute- i know the won't be on planet. They are not mentioned in the book (then again, the book was written before they were created) they could possibly be elsewhere
-Engineers

*also, there could be indigenous animal, like the original halo 1 build

Thanx for your time

STFU, you must did not read the books and play the games 8 times through like me. There will be no Brutes on Reach and if Bungie decides to put them in screw them.

? yes i know the books did not have brutes bit halo wars did. and yes its cannon so dont say it isnt

what im saying is in the area where the book took place there may be no brutes but in another area their may be brutes

just like halo 2 with halo 3 odst with both brutes elites and engineers

  • 11.09.2009 12:25 PM PDT

My troll sense is tingling.

You forgot the include the Grute, a mix of Brute and Grunt DNA.

  • 11.09.2009 12:28 PM PDT

yeah, i agree with this guy

  • 11.09.2009 12:29 PM PDT

The UNSC had actually fought Brutes at Harvest, a while before the battles at Reach. There's definitely a chance they could be in Reach, although I doubt they would be in full-scale deployment like in Halo 3.

there wont be any drones because the explanation of why they werent in halo 1 was that until halo two they were rarely used

If Bungie finds some way to tie the monkeys in the game and forget the story than why not go all out and include the Flood?

Just because the Jiralhanae were part of the Covenant at the time of the game does not necessarily mean that they will be present. In fact, this logic is quite backwards. Halo 1 is after Halo: Reach, but were Brutes seen in it? No.

Therefore, Jiralhanae may or may not be in Halo: Reach. I would conjecture that they will not be seen since they do not appear in any existing Halo Canon that details the story of the Battle of Reach.

I -blam!- love you. Were the only 2 that want to stay true to the story.

But the Monkeys were actually around at the time and had been fought against. I'm not saying they would be the Main enemy like in Halo 3, but seeing a couple of them wouldn't be far-fetched.

No need to get crazy about how many times you've played, lots of us arent bragging about how much time i've spent playing campaign alone. I dont know how proud of that any of us should be, aside from the developers.

anyways, to the OP, Brutes shouldnt appear in Reach. as far as my understanding of the Canon goes, the brutes are at the time of reach being punished for starting the war with humans pre-emptively. Also, the brutes dont really take military strength (with fully functional ships, weapons, and shielded armor) until the elites "fail" at protecting the prophet thats killed in halo 2. This is when the prophets deem the elites unfit and forcefully remove them from the covenant, the brutes taking their place.

Also, i think the first spartan encounter with brutes was on the unyielding heirophant (uneven elephant or w.e :p ). there appears to be very little to no data on them before this time, other than the first encounter at harvest.

In the novel The fall of reach, there were also no brutes encountered or even mentioned.

I could be wrong though, Brutes may appear. Its Bungie's game and they can do whatever they want with it. i'll just be happy to play it for whatever many more hours of my life. They know the formula for a decent game and i trust them to come through, even if i gotta kill a few retarded monkies in the process.

@ TruSalvation

Didn't The Fall of Reach come out before Halo 2? Pretty sure that the author was working with the lure that had been created by Bungie.

With that bit of information it is clear as to why no Brutes are mentioned in the book. Seeing that you are such a large Halo fan I would figure you would understand that the author of the books has no affiliation with the Dev Team, aside from the right to write about the license.

The main fact still remains though, nothing is going to be cut to fit 'lure' when it comes to making games the game comes before the story. I for one don't want less enemies, vehicles, and weapons for the sake of the story. I put my money out for fun.

This was the authors' way of explaining why the brutes weren't in the first Halo. When in reality they weren't there because Bungie had not conceived them yet, same goes with Drones.

If Bungie wanted Brutes to be on Reach why didn't they include them in the Beginning and middle of the book. Hence "When the spartans were on reach" they wanted them to be an earth enemy

But they oversee the canon and give the final word on what stays and what leaves the final draft. Staten did collaborate with Nylund on a few occasions if I'm not mistaken.

Bungie gives the Authors the organization of Events.

we dont know what happens to all the spartans or on all of reach. so if we play as the spartans we dont know they may go to places with brutes in it. remeber, we didnt think there were brutes on earth til halo 3. odst showed we were wrong

That's fine but what I'm stating is facts and obviously you have chosen to ignore them to create your rant about canon and Halo. Did you -blam!- the same way when Halo 2 came out and First Strike had absolutely nothing to do with it?
