not every map has an energy sword and that has ammo, where talking about cold hard steet which dosnt, and besides theres a version of everything for both sides. Shotgun to counter Cov made the mauler. Warthog Cov made the prowler(i hate the prowler the most by the way) Banshee the UNSC made the hornet. So why does the Cov get to have a bladeish weapon( cuz the sword isnt metal its well energy) So why can't we have something that is carried in the real world and in the game world. And not being to pull it out in combat that bull because, watch the cutscenes the knife got pulled out in a fight and it kicked ass,lets see a cheiften and an arbitor not bad so far. Besides its a good silent weapon

how about if your spartan for some reason has either no weapons (maybe in campaign or ran out of ammo in both guns

they could use a combat knife for their melee

it would do 73 damage instead of the bruteshots 72 i think i have that right

at it would have a longer range then a regular melee

but it would still be a 2 hit beatdown

In battle, you won't have enough time to pull out a knife.

i guess the soldiers of call of duty are more skilled then spartans =/

its a game btw

and why does it have to be in a sheath

Magnetism can keep the weapons on for a quick grab

if you read the books you will know chief has dodged a bullet at point blank and he wasnt wearing mjolnir.

I think even if he has a sheath he could pull it out in the blink of an eye

Let's see. A clone of the Energy Sword that has infinite ammo. Worse idea ever.

The real world uses the knife as a multi-tool. They hardly ever use Combat Knives in actual combat.

Anyways, we don't need equivlants for everything. Basicly having muliple versions of the same gun gets boring after a little while. Don't compare a Banshee to a Hornet, Wraith to the Scorpian. They are, by no means, the same.

Second acct: RC Zerg Rushes

NO!

There is no need, whatsoever, for a combat knife when you're a 7 foot tall augmented human encased in armor that allows you to shatter concrete. None.

A combat knife would be worthless to a spartan. It's essentially an ammoless spiker. Yet for it's huge blades, the spiker only does 72 points of melee damage instead of the usual 70. Nobody in their right mind would pick up a knife that kills in two melee hits when they could pick up a gun that kills in two melee hits instead.

Yeah exactly.... A combat knife would have to some new feature that seperates it from the other direct melee weapons as well as normal weapon melees but in a balanced way. I have no idea what gameplay mechanic could make a knife a genuinely useful addition to the Halo arsenal.

A knife was used to kill the Arbiter in Halo Wars, so, it's useless? I think not. However, I think it would be poor to use during a campaign, so I'd leave it out.

Cutscene.

Anyways, did you see Forge charge at him with a knife? He would have been massacred like the Elites in that cutscene.

they are no means th same because thee two factions made thier versions of a fighter and a tank. Yeah they use it from the people ive had conversations with. Haha dude or lady whichever you are, everygun minus like two the bruteshot, and the sword has an equivlant so they pretty much have different version of the same gun. All were asking is for something that has been standered in military history since like the Romans. The regular sword has been downgraded to the combat knife, and if it needs ammo then its a balistic knife cuz it fires its blade. Energy sword needs energy so when they dont have ne they well dont work, a blade takes damage over time so if they incoroporate that i guess that can count ass ammo because every blade or knife gets dull/rusty/break

  • 11.09.2009 3:14 PM PDT

Scorpian=Tank
Wraith=Mobile artillery
These are two different classes in vehicles. 'Bout the only thing similar about them is that they are both classified as heavy vehicles.

Banshee=Air-to-Ground Anti Infantry/Light Vehicles
Hornet=Gunboat
These vehicles even feel extremely different.

Anyways, have you ever heard the saying "You brought a knife to a gunfight" before?

  • 11.09.2009 3:19 PM PDT

Good, bad, I'm the guy with the clichéd lines.

A combat knife would be redundant. Melee system is already strong enough. And if you want a blade that kills in 1 hit then pick up a plasma sword.

Too bad the guy with the knife would be dead before then.

Hornet isnt a gunboat haha its airplane and a fighter its anti ifantry(guns) and light vehicles(missles) scorpian is the UNSC main battle tank and it says in the instruction manual that the wraith is the Cov tank, though i agree with you its more mobile artillery. Ive heard that saying but that dosnt mean the knife still cant kill you haha

Do you even understand what a Gunboat is? Anyways, it's a VTOL, not an airplane.

True, a knife could still kill you, but you would still get shot and die a few minutes later.

"True, a knife could still kill you, but you would still get shot and die a few minutes later."
that dosnt always happen and getting shot once dosnt kill you(well depending on where on the body)and yes the Hornet is a VTOL aircraft but for users on this thread a VTOL is a Vertical Take-Off and Landing aircraft. But its easier to describe it as a airplane because well its still an aircraft it just can take off and land verticaly

It's my fault in encouraging this thread. I meant my post with a majority of humor in it and a minority of seriousness. Obviously it did not come across as such.

No need to appologize. I didn't recognize you as the guy who had sarcastically said that he wanted a huge machete. Someone probably would have asked the question eventually anyways =)

Btw - polls on bungie.net mean absolutely nothing, so please don't use them to try and prove some kind of point.

yess comabat knife would be BA but with weapons like sword and hammer it seems/becomes impractical.. Im not saying I don't want it just if that they decided to put it in game, it would seem weirdly overpowered in placed in the same categories as a hammer that alters the gravitational field around its victims and a sword made of plasma. Think about it, If i had a combat knife and you have a plasma sword, the sword is going to cut throug the knife like a stick of butter, and the armor the spartan's wear can repel bullets so what chance would a knife stand. Regardless of this I want it cuz its ba, it should be the new flamthrower.

Well. Ya seemed pretty angry and I've learned to fear the people with special titles.

One does not simple punch Rothgar the Rekillinator in the back of the head and walk away.

A confident civil tone is far from being angry. A little exasperated perhaps as a thread identical to this pops up every few days, but I usually don't intend any malice in my posts.

Though you are welcome to fear people with special titles, just remember that we really are no different than anybody else.

well, the combat knife doesn't have to be a pick-up-able weapon it could be a choice like choosing if you want your helmet on or off in ODST, it doesnt effect gameplay but it looks kool.

  • 11.09.2009 6:32 PM PDT

-I was here

i want the machete that was s'posed to be in halo 1

heres how it could work... it would be a default weapon for all characters and you can't drop them(it wouldn't take up your weapon slots, it would have its own) to pull it out, press up on the d-pad. it would have unlimited ammo and instant kill, but it wouldn't have a lunge like the energy sword, it would basically be an emergency weapon. also, they should have the sword parry effect on it incase you get into a knife fight. (feel free to correct any balance issues you find in this.)
