Subject: Idea: Betrayal/Booting system

Armor Lock isn't overpowered. You just suck at Reach :)

Reach isn't bad, you're just a BK :)

For my gamertag, look up "Ghoulishtie"

Don't ya just hate it when you go into a game and hear a 9 year olds voice say "OK GUYS IM A SNIPER PRO, SO IM GONA GET IT NO ONE ELSE GET IT!!!" yet you get it anyways, and you end up getting betrayed ONLY to find you can't boot?

Lets talk about fixing the booting system then. I spoke of this idea in the past, and I am bringing it back up. I will explain some ideas of how to battle betrayers and fix the booting system once and for all!

Now keep in mind, when playing with a friend or friends, that if you betray any of them accidently, it is between you and them if they boot you or not. This is purposely for the random jerks in MM you are teamed up with.

First off, lets get to the start of the game. You know how sometimes you get smart mouthes that go at it before game, and they start immediantly when the game begins? Well, lets fix it.

-Within the first 15 seconds or so of the game, if you betray, the killed gets the option to boot immediantly

__________________________________

Next, Weapon Callers. As described at the beginning of the post. Well, lets fix it.

-After picking up a weapon (ammo does not count), if you are betrayed within 10ish seconds, you get the option to boot

__________________________________

Last but not least, accidental booting. These are only done if the player has not picked up a weapon recently, or it is not the start of the game, you are given a 'safety'. After that though, if you betray that same person again, they immediantly get the option. Consider it getting 2 strikes and your out.

-You only get 1 free slide of an accidental betrayal. After that, sucks for you.

__________________________________

So what will keep them from doing this all the time though? Well, lets see. You get kicked from betraying, so you are let off. If within a certain amount of games (maybe like 2 or 3) if you are kicked for betraying again, your given a 'penalty' to whatever rank system they will put in. It is unknown of the rank system they will use yet, but if it anything close to Halo 3, if you are given a 'penalty' (which can stack btw) you must win a game in order to remove a 'penalty'. Until you are removed of all penalties, you cannot gain a rank/exp point/etc, but you can still go down.

Also, penalties show on your service record, so we know who the bad/good players are.

So, what do yall think? I was in sort of a hurry, gotta go for a family get-together cause grandmothers funeral was today. Please don't flame, it's just an idea.

I don't. Now are you not only helping the other team by going down a player and having a longer respawn, you also give them, potentially, a power weapon. That's a bit much for a betrayal.

Insta-booting after picking up a weapon isn't a good idea. It makes it easier for someone trying to boot people to accomplish whatever they are trying to do.

You shouldn't be able to pick up the weapons of someone you betrayed.

Also, the game needs better betrayal detection. If someone on my team melees me, and then the other team gets a head shot while my shields are down, that should count as a betrayal. Also, if someone on the other team melees me and someone on my team accidentally kills me with a BR, that shouln't count as a betrayal. Betrayals should be awarded if someone on your team did a significant amount of damage to you before you died (if the enemy killed you).

well that means the 9 year old thats a noob cant use the sniper so he cant complain when he DOESNT get a headshot and -BLAMS- about it the rest of the match
But then whats the mute button for?

would be nice if you could just not kill your team mates in MM... that would solve all "accidental" betrayals... just make it so allied weps can't affect teammates... although their goes a lot of different strategies like gravity hammer launching although grifball is a serious issue I like grifball and I will run for ball.. friend is running to kill enemy going for ball Im like 3 feet away and I get killed by aoe of hammer... in my oppinion hammer should be removed from grifball and just use swords and if they still want that send them flying effect like for launching make like a super punch wep where it still sends enemies flying but aoe doesnt get allies

I do not like this idea. Even if my team mate betrayed me for that weapon I'd rather the team mate use it than the enemy.

I think the betrayal system itself is fine. It just needs to be a little "smarter".

Friendly fire is a big part of Halo. It restricts people from using "noobish" strategies like spamming rockets at a group even if a team mate is in there.

  • 11.09.2009 3:27 PM PDT

true very true k then how about this.... you can turn friendly fire on/off for certain gametypes like grifball I don't think it would affect it to much

  • 11.09.2009 3:30 PM PDT

How about a playlist with friendly fire off?

But then people won't betray for weapons.

They'll betray because they are pissed that they didn't get the weapon. It's a huge improvement.

The weapon thing I think could work, but the time on it would NOT be instant. It would be if they betray you within like 10 seconds, then you would be able to boot.

I'm just tired of getting betrayed time after time when I got a certain weapon, or by some random retard who wants to betray for fun in the beginning of the match.

yes! Great idea!!

(my story)

once, i was playing on standoff. near the end of the game, i died, spawned back at the base. so i threw a pair of 'nades across the map, stopped the bomb carrier and got a double kill, but i betrayed someone and i got booted.

under this system, i wouldn't have got booted!

and how!

I like most of what is up there, except for the 10 second weapon pickup instaboot.

How about if someone on your team shoots and kills you when there is no outside influence on your health/shields [You take no damage from enemy gunfire.] then there is immidiately the option to boot?

  • 11.09.2009 9:24 PM PDT

what if they accidentally betray you after you swap your magnum for a br? that makes it hard to decide if it should boot or not.

but if you betray someone that has shot you, you shouldn't even be penalized. the most annoying thing ever is when someone betrays you over 3 times and starts shooting you, so you betray them to save yourself and get booted.

easy fix: power weapons only

Eagles may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet turbines.

Does anyone know what Bungie's rules are about the booting system?

personally i think that Bungie REALLY needs to work on their system. one time when i was playing, my entire team was getting team killed by this one kid who sounded like he was about six years old but none of us got the option to boot, then when we were about four kills from victory i accidentally betray the kid and get booted by him. i think that the option to boot should be based on what each player is doing and not on the team as a whole.

The weapons, as I said, are kinda hard to mix around with. It was just an idea to help get reid of weapon callers that get ticked off when they dont get their way.

If bungie could slightly build off of this, it would make Reach a whole lot better.

[Insert Catchy Phrase here]

What about accidental betrayals? On Sandbox in matchmaking I was getting into this ghost then my teammate starts shooting at me. So I drive forward and he moves in front and I'm not even using boost and he makes me splatter him. Then he's even more of a -blam!- and boots me!

Hence the '1 free slide' you get. As long as he hasnt just picked up a weapon or it's not the start of the game, you would get of easy that 1 betrayal.
