What makes these supposed "Leaked" Reach pics any different? If they were fake, Mods shouldn't give a perma-ban. If they were real, a perma-ban is VERY nessesary. So either they were real (I really, REALLY hope not) and that's why people got banned, or Mods just didn't want false information to be spread around the forums. So which one is it?
None of the mods know if the screens are real or not, and it doesn't matter anyway. If they're fake, we're preventing false information from being spread. If they're real, we're preventing leaked material from being distributed on Bungie's website. It's not our responsibility to confirm authenticity of any alleged leaks; we just clean them up. It doesn't have to be one or the other. Stop thinking in black and white.
Furthermore, this is where you have to put it into context. Let's say someone posted a supposed spoiler like a week after the Reach announcement trailer at E3. Would that strike you as anything but fake?
Now, let's fast forward to say...May/June 2010. By now, the Reach beta will probably be in full swing (this is purely my guess, nothing more), maybe a couple sites/mags had a hands-on with the game or eyes-on with the campaign. Someone posting spoilers at this time should be taken much more seriously, since more and more people outside Bungie are seeing the game, and this increases the chance of a genuine leak.
It would be very helpful to have this in the forum rules sticky, much more straighforward
