I'd love to be a 10 year old and tell my mom I'm going on an adventure out into the world catching Pokemon, with her full support. Never mind the fact that there are rapists, criminals, and murders out there, or the fact that I may get killed by a Pokemon.

Luckily I have Pikachu.

I believe in all honesty they consider ALL leaked material to be spoilers,
This is where I disagree, while story spoilers are a big no no, I believe that gameplay features are not spoilers.

Nobody had any problems of leaked gameplay information with Halo 3 from what I remember. It's the story itsself that I see as the only possible spoiler. As for leaked screenshots and scans, I do agree that they should be treated as spoilers.

Here's how I handle the grey area. Other mods may be different.

This is a post I'll ban you for.

hay guyz i kno u cant link teh picz here so im gunna tell u wat tehy show lol (insert detailed description of leaked material down to minute details, including possible story spoilers). wtf bungee teh grahpicz r bad

This is a post that I would leave alone.

hey guys, what do you think of this supposed "perks" feature? and what do you think that new Covenant weapon is?

Now this is a reasonable way to handle the issue.

If someone's being a complete ass about it then they get banned but if they are actually bringing a discussion to the table then why not let them speculate.

I believe in all honesty they consider ALL leaked material to be spoilers, whether the leaked materials is screenshot, video, the ending in form of text or whatever. even pre alpha builds.

and it's easy to understand why they want their forums spoiler free...

imo that's the only logical explanation, really.

Well thats fine by most people I know. We don't care what happens to reach anyway. If I move on and start MW2 It would take a God like leap of IQ for bungie to win me and tens of thousands of players back.

Bungie wonders why they get so much backlash.... When you keep your -blam!- so secretive and then bring it to market with stuff that wasn't what we wanted or were promised. We are going to kick you in the nuts and walk away.

Why do you keep hating on bungie and halo. Like wtf man, get off the forums if ur just gonna bi7ch and whine about everything. Like honestly if you hate it is so much then why are you on the website.

Dear Bungie

I'm a long time halo fan and am really looking forward to Reach next year and I'm sure it will be well worth the wait. Recently we've caught a glimpse of some "Leaked footage" and now I hear that the forum population is getting hammer whacked.
My question to you is Y. The genital man who took the photos obviously did something wrong and i can understand that HE needs to be punished but we are the halo fans that just want tidbits of info just to hold us till release date. So needless to say I'm a little confused at how you are treating your fan base because they are simple excited and want to discuss your up coming game And if the photos are not legit y not just say so instead of not commenting.
Anyway thats my 2 cents can't wait for Reach!

its the same thing with area 51 (DONT ASK QUSTIONS!)cause if you do, you have seen to much so BANNHAMMER!lol

Those fans caused the frustration. Bungie has the right to ban them.

Hate to say this, but I agree. This whole "We'll show you when it's ready" attitude is fine if we got a look say, next week. But the fact of the matter is, Bungie usually keeps us in the dark throughout the entire development cycle (which is the most important part of game creation obviously) and then reveals everything a month or two before the game's released. By that point it has already gone gold.

The problem with this is that it takes the fans' hands out of the clay entirely, making every game Bungie makes purely auteur. Normally, I'd say they took feedback from the forums, but this latest banning spree and the fact that they will ban anyone who wants to discuss significant weapon changes outside of the single thread stickied at the top of the Halo 3 forum is evidence against that.

Honestly, it seems to me we're just customers now. We raised Bungie to the top with sales, so now they don't have to develop for us anymore, just make the next Halo game and cash the check. I never thought I'd be glad Microsoft took the Halo IP from Bungie, but maybe it's for the best. Without their mega-hype crutch to stand on, Bungie will have to return to actually making new and interesting games again.

Of course I'd love to believe Reach will be different. I mean, it really IS their last chance. But from what I've seen so far, not from the leaks, but just from Bungie's attitude toward us, I very much doubt it. It makes me sad to see a company that was so committed to us suddenly shut us out completely. Like the gracious king was killed and replaced by a greedy dictator.

I hope you prove me and all the other discouraged fans wrong Bungie. You've got some splanin' to do.

Because Muslims surgically implant organic bombs in their testicles, which in turn will be injected into women during sex, which will grow into BABY BOMBS!

Ninjas ban people, not Bungie. Stop being idiots and saying that Bungie hates everyone. The Ninjas don't work for Bungie, they just enforce the forum rules. One of the rules is that you are not allowed to discuss leaks of any kind.
There have been a lot of bans because retards are doing things they are not supposed to.
If there was someone in The Flood forum being an idiot and making dumb threads that were getting locked nobody would accuse Bungie they would say that the Ninjas are having fun.
Don't get mad at Bungie because people are being retards.
I agree that they should've said a little something in the update but they didn't and I don't really mind. People need to calm down.

...

I'm noticing the friends of the banned are crawling to the surface nao!

  • 11.10.2009 12:08 AM PDT

If we are to see some of the gameplay, characters, levels, maps etc. Then I would prefer it if the information was released by Bungie and the images captured in the correct way.

Of course, I have also looked at the supposed leaked images, who wouldn't? But I would rather see them in their full glory, in the best possible format, not via a camera phone.

They could be real they could be fake. It's open, as a subject, for debate. The camera phone may have been used to hide the details that would have revealed it as a fake if it were shown in a clearer image.

I can understand when the forum ninjas jump all over this. I know we all want to see what the game looks like, but I don't want the surprise spoiled too much. But if it is true then I'm pleased to see more than one Spartan. I just hope one of them is John-117.

Bungie wants to maintain the control of info that we the fans recieve. The people that come to these forums are the people that go out in the streets and hype the game at school, at work, at the bar, etc. WE are teh silent majority that really sell the game. If we gain too much info though through leaked screens and info, bungie loses a major cog in their hype machine if we don't like what we see. They'd rather us know nothing and think the game great before release than know enough to see that its really not as great as it will be made to seem. If you doubt me, go watch the believe trailer, and then play the game, and tell me when the game hit that level of hype and excitment that the commercial did, becasue I never saw it. Halo 2 and 3 were good, but were def disappointing to some degree.

You hit it right in the bullseye. Bungie would rather take all our money if the game sucks then let us know and get no money. Bungie is a business and they are out to make money. They might care about their fan base but at the end of the day they are in it for the money. Bungie has done a fantastic job at hypeing up their games. I have been disapointed by Halo 2, Halo 3, and mostly ODST. They were all great games that are a lot of fun, but they were not what Bungie said they would be. They pull the blindfold over our eyes and tell us a nice story that gets us excited so we buy their game.

If Reach isn't amazing and revolutionary with amazing ahead of the time graphics and gameplay with an incredible story and cutscenes that were not taken from previous games then I will be done with Bungie. They have been feeding us Halo CE for the past 8 years. Reach needs to be creative and inventive with unique style and cutscenes with amazing graphics and gameplay. If they expand on what they started in ODST then they can give us an amzing game but I question wheather they will actually put forth the effort. I think they are willing to spoon feed us the same game again to milk some more money out of us.

yep you get it I feel the same way

  • 11.10.2009 1:30 AM PDT

Bungie is doing the right thing by keeping the people who ruined the last games for so many others out of the loop.

Keep up the good work Bungie, really looking forward to a game I will ignore until its release, nothing better then playing a game that is COMPLETELY fresh and unspoiled.

Halo, and Halo 3: ODST were my favorite campaigns due to the fact I completely blocked out anything thrown my way that could have possibly been a spoiler.

Edit- Bungie is a story teller that just so happens to need funding, Video games aren't cheap to make by any means.

By that point it has already gone gold.

Did you ever keep track of Halo 2, Halo 3 and/or ODST during development? If you did, you'd know that what you just said is exaggeration at best, flat out untrue at worst. We're kept in the dark until there is a substantial amount of content to show that's indicative of the final product. We start seeing screenshots and getting detailed information much sooner than "a month or two" away from release. Bungie learned from the development cycle of Halo 2 that showing too much leads to overpromising, which is what happened with Halo 2. A lot of content got cut after it had already been shown. Their modus operandi now seems to be to only show things that are very unlikely to change in the long run. Of course, what they DO show is always subject to change. This, I think, is why we tend to see multiplayer content first. It's easier to make changes to MP maps than showing campaign footage that gets cut later.

What's wrong with auteur? Do you honestly want Bungie to take feedback on anything but multiplayer playlists? I sure as hell don't. I may not agree with all of their decisions, and I myself am critical of a lot of things about H3, but I'd be more willing to trust Bungie to make a good game than the community.

Discussion is allowed, but with limits. We don't tolerate people being pricks and trying to spoil things. It's still a bit iffy, because none of those leaked screens have been confirmed as genuine. The vast majority of people banned were banned for reasons stated in my previous posts, as well as Achronos'.

What makes these supposed "Leaked" Reach pics any different? If they were fake, Mods shouldn't give a perma-ban. If they were real, a perma-ban is VERY nessesary. So either they were real (I really, REALLY hope not) and that's why people got banned, or Mods just didn't want false information to be spread around the forums. So which one is it?

None of the mods know if the screens are real or not, and it doesn't matter anyway. If they're fake, we're preventing false information from being spread. If they're real, we're preventing leaked material from being distributed on Bungie's website. It's not our responsibility to confirm authenticity of any alleged leaks; we just clean them up. It doesn't have to be one or the other. Stop thinking in black and white.

Furthermore, this is where you have to put it into context. Let's say someone posted a supposed spoiler like a week after the Reach announcement trailer at E3. Would that strike you as anything but fake?

Now, let's fast forward to say...May/June 2010. By now, the Reach beta will probably be in full swing (this is purely my guess, nothing more), maybe a couple sites/mags (most likely French) had a hands-on with the game or eyes-on with the campaign. Someone posting spoilers at this time should be taken much more seriously, since more and more people outside Bungie are seeing the game, and this increases the chance of a genuine leak.

I'm not sure if that bold statement was intended to be funny, but I laughed.

whoa whoa wait a minute you thought those banned fellas were intentionally trying to spoil it for everyone? From what I saw they just seemed excited about the new halo game so they posted possible halo pictures on a HALO FORUM.

If anything they were being nice bro.

P.S. you and achronos seem pretty defensive right now. Just let us discuss the leaked halo reach pics, they look legit to a lot of people, and the halo reach forum would be the first place people would go to discuss this new development.

I disagree. Bungie in my opinion is doing it right, as Nedus said they only want to show off the game when there is enough to expose. I really want to see atleast a screenshot as well but we have to be patient. Bungie always delivers, always. By the way Halo>>>>cod.

Ya I know what you mean it is pretty frustrating. But they had to announce halo reach because the halo reach beta came with odst. They added that in to sell more copies. There wasn't any smart way around it.

Secrecy is the game industry's standard, announcing a game around a year before it's released then not releasing any info until about half a year before release is pretty much standard. I can't think of a developer that doesn't follow that standard as much as possible, that's right I'm counting Infinity Ward.
