I disagree. Bungie in my opinion is doing it right, as Nedus said they only want to show off the game when there is enough to expose. I really want to see atleast a screenshot as well but we have to be patient. Bungie always delivers, always. By the way Halo>>>>cod.

Then wait for the announcement when you have the content. I mean Teaser Trailers are annoying even with the one they announced. Now i had no problem with Halo 3 because that was pretty cool but Halo Reach was dumb.

Ya I know what you mean it is pretty frustrating. But they had to announce halo reach because the halo reach beta came with odst. They added that in to sell more copies. There wasn't any smart way around it.

Right there you just basically brought the frustration with alot of people have with Bungie and Microsoft when dealing with the BETAS and gaming in general. To see extra copies in a Soft economy they added it and they did the same thing for Crackdown. They do that and act like there tough on everyone when people want to see the progress of Halo Reach. Its annoying

Secrecy is the game industry's standard, announcing a game around a year before it's released then not releasing any info until about half a year before release is pretty much standard. I can't think of a developer that doesn't follow that standard as much as possible, that's right I'm counting Infinity Ward.

I understand that, my problem in general is the way bungie does it. My favorite series of all time. Metal Gear Solid is known for that more then anyone, do I have a problem with that. No. They do it creatively. Which Is great. Bungie does nont and its annoying to see.

Well I already agreed that it was frustrating but none of this will change the fact that I am buying this game. It will be epic! I have a feeling that the previous bungie update that was really short was supposed to have halo reach info or screenshots. It's all Tom Morello's fault, in a way the update was a punishement lol.

If by next-gen you mean crappy, dark and colorless, I agree. It doesnt look next-gen at all.

This is where I disagree, while story spoilers are a big no no, I believe that gameplay features are not spoilers.

Nobody had any problems of leaked gameplay information with Halo 3 from what I remember. It's the story itsself that I see as the only possible spoiler. As for leaked screenshots and scans, I do agree that they should be treated as spoilers.
Actually i remember a few times where similar stuff happened. Like the leaked EGM scans that featured the EVA armor and other information about Forge. The forums went crazy (as always) 100 people making threads about it, some other 100 people making threads asking about it, and most of them getting banned over it.

It happened about 3 times and I remember that one of those was fan made content but people got banned and others where whining over it. I do agree with you on the whole "gameplay features are not spoilers" argument but in this case there were screenshots too.

Im guessing he does. Hes in the Grizzled Ancients part of "meet the team". But he could just be limited to the page, idk. Stalk him or ask him.

For those of you thinking the leaks are fake, they are not. My deep sources and conversations with people tell me that those were pics of the pre-alpha stage of the game.

Also, for people who are confused, the Tom guy, didn't take those pics. So whatever he said about perks isn't true.
Your deep sources? Right... As for the whole perk thing its already been discussed and clarified on the 40 different sites where there is information about this. Finally, it doesnt matter if the guy didnt take the pictures, he was the one that posted them.

It's actually against your legal rights for Bungie to ban you for speaking of leaked material as it's Bungie's lack of security which caused the issue, but the legal team at Bungie isn't skilled enough to keep this company outta legal woes. Look so as a law student with a 4.0 GPA (wink wink)if any American company provides a forum to speak then in terms it is illegal to censor your speech weather it be written or verbal, unless it becomes disruptive to the forum which this obviously hasn't as people are still posting topics. The right to freedom of speech is recognized as a human right under Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and recognized in international human rights law in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR). If you do get banned then I would take it up with the ACLU or any competent lawyer which, in turn, would probably start up a class action lawsuit under the First Amendment. Bungie would lose this one easy in a court. All the rules of this forum do is give them a reason but the courts will find that the reason given actually infringes on your rights and rule in favor of freedom of speech. They ALWAYS DO as an example a man was on trial for threatening to kill the President (verbally) a few months back he has now been acquitted under the First Amendment. Have fun banning Bungie cause if you Ban me you will find your self in court guaranteed.

BYAHH

Everyone knows banhammer trumps gavel. Its bigger and scarier.

  • 11.10.2009 9:47 AM PDT

I'm xAssault12x, and I love the Halo Universe. Discussion please!

The mass banning is proof that the mods work for Bungie and that the picture are real. There is no deniying it. Why would these people get banned and not all the other people who post retarded threads about false leaked info???

I have read countless threads about the story or weapons or whatever that claimed it was leaked info and spoilers so why didn't they get banned? The answer is that their info was fake. These pics got people banned off of Bungies official forum because they didn't want them on their forum. That is it. Bungie is upset that info got leaked and is making their fans pay for it by banning anyone that posts link or talks about the pictures.

Everyone who read the threads before they were taken off and the people banned will say the same thing. The people were excited fans who wanted to discuss the pictures with other Halo fans on the official forum. What is so wrong about that?

The answer is nothing. Nothing is wrong with what those people did and yet they were still banned. They got banned because Bungie want no leaked info on their forum. They got banned because the pictures are real.

Moderators and Bungie officials can say what they want but their actions speak louder then their words. They banned all these people and locked all the threads with links to the pics because they are real and Bungie does not want leaked info on their own forum because they think that somehow that will stop the leak.

GUESS WHAT BUNGIE! THE PICTURES ARE OUT AND EVERYONE HAS SEEN THEM!

Get over it and keep making the game. A lot of your fans are ready to dump you forever if Halo Reach isn't good so get to work. These people who were banned deserve to be allowed back on and we should be able to discuss the pictures all we want. What better forum to discuss them on then this one.

If these people all got banned then half the people on this forum should be banned. Either ban everyone who puts out possible spoilers or don't ban anyone. It is obvious that these pics were real. The mods claim that spoilers can hurt the game and give it negative reviews before Bungie can give us the real story.

Well, the day that Bungie tells us what is actually in the game and not some fairy tail about how awesome and perfect the game is, is never going to happen. The fact that people saw thesse pics and weren't happy with what they saw or liked some of it is helpful info for Bungie.

Bungie came out a couple weeks before ODST was released and showed us all these pictures of their work on New Mombasa that they put together and none of them looked even remotely like the finished product. We were led to believe that the Hub was this huge enviornment and they built it from the ground up and it was this awesome enviornment that we could wander through. They lied to our face. They made half of the hub then copied it and made a reverse mirror image of it for the other half, and if you don't believe me then load up ODST got to the streets and bring up the map. The left side of the city is a reverse mirror image of the right.

Bungie talks all this stuff about their games and then never delivers. They make good game but they have yet to make a game that lives up to what they tell us it will be. Not only that but they have copied things from Halo CE since day one. A perfect example is this: there is a scene in Halo CE at the beginning of the Maw where MC is flying in a Banshee and trying to land in an escape pod dock. MC ends up crashing the Banshee into the side of the Autumn just below the escape pod dock and then climbs up into the dock while Cortana says, "You did that on purpose, didn't you." This scene was copied in Halo 2 when the Arbiter is flying a Banshee through the storm and crashes into a ledge and pulls himself up.

Bungie's first and only original work was Halo Combat Evolved. Everthing they made after that has been an attempt to copy CE's success. Sure they add new stuff, but that is easy. It is being creative and inventive that is hard.

The simple truth is that Bungie is riding high on a cloud and they need a reality check. These bans are just another chapter in Bungie's consistant hostory. I would expect nothing less from them.

I challenge Bungie to make me look like a fool for everthing I said above and make Halo Reach the best game they have ever made. Even more then that I challenege them to make Reach the best game of 2010. I want to see Halo Reach be a huge success and my faith in Bungie restored, but I doubt that will happen. Bungie will probably just spoon feed us more of the same with better graphics and some new weapons and vehicles.

Bungie has been feeding us Halo CE for three games now. I want something new. Halo CE was a groundbreaking game that sold millions of copies and single handedly made the Xbox a competative and successful system capable of competeing with Playstation and ushering in a new era for gaming on consols. It makes me sad to see such a bright and inovative company like Bungie follow the lame formula used for Call of Duty.

Like Halo, CoD game are fun but they never really change. Yea, we get cool new weapons and slightly better graphics, but they are all basicaly the same. Each game borrows from the games that came before and just improves on them instead of being creative and inventive and trying to reinvent the CoD experience. Bungie has been doing the same thing.

Bungie needs to get back to their core and make a new game that we have never seen before with all new experiences and amazing state of the art graphics and a thrilling story that pulls you into the game. The fans tell you what they want in a game, you just have to listen.

Um... I like Halo? I don't really know what to say. I'm a student at the moment, I hope to become a criminal profiler, and I enjoy pretty much everything as long as it's good.

Linking to places to get leaked assets (text, images, or otherwise), even if the leaked info is FAKE will get you permanently banned. Period. Do not expect me to feel sorry for you.

Talking about the contents of said leaks is not strictly against the rules (unless we're talking spoilers or such in text form), but rather is a gray area where you are subject to whether or not a moderator thinks you're just an enthusiastic fan or a prick who wants to ruin things for other people. Expect appeals of "it was just a joke" or "i'm just excited about the game" to probably fall on deaf ears.

A good rule of thumb is to not be the first guy making threads about a leak. The moderators tend to take a ban first, ask questions later approach for a few days to make sure the message that leaks aren't tolerated is VERY clear. By the same token, though, just because you see other people talking about it doesn't make it okay. Frustrating, I know, but that's why it is called a "gray area". I suggest keeping such discussion to your groups and other places on the Internet until you know for sure the mods are okay with it.

/fun police
Then why were all those other leaked screenshots and concept art? We knew they were fake but why do you hammer down all these people? I smell BS.

  • 11.10.2009 8:29 PM PDT

BS is correct. Bungie will not give us an answer because the pictures are real. Why else would they drop the banhammer on these people and not everyone else?

Now they trapped themselves in a corner and they can either deny everything or do the honorable thing and admit the pictures are real and allow everyone they banned to come back onto the forum.

Unfortunately I think they will just deny everything until they die.

Does anyone from Bungie even have anything to say about my epic paragraph of ranting above? I'm interested in a response...

There are already thousands of meaningless and dead threads on this forum already and you say that they cannot get information from screenshots of their game....

How dumb...

A lot of people have been talking about the screenshots and giving their opinions on them. That is extremely helpful to Bungie wether they are real or not. So let the screenshots be discussed and then Bungie gets all the input they need.

I understand your point. I do however believe that they have the right to because i view this forum as kind of like how a casino is treated. Yes you may go in if you are the correct age but the casino can still kick you off the floor at anytime if they want. Also the leaked stuff is still their property at least in my mind. If I'm wrong with my points send me a message I'm always willing to learn.

This is the Internet, those rights really don't count here. There is a rule in this, and other, forums saying posting leaked content real or fake will result in a ban. Get it? The websites RULES state that.

But if my freedom of speech is a huge issue, let me offer some examples.

The public pool says they have a right to kick you out. Now, if I start shouting racial slurs and they kick me out, can I sue them? I mean, I was using my freedom of speech.

Or if I shout "FIRE!" in a crowded theater. You aren't allowed to do that, but could I avoid jail time by claiming I was using my first amendment rights?

Please, taking Bunie to court over them banning someone from their forums because they broke the rules would never get past any judge. Hell, one PSN user was banned for violating the rules and he sued Sony. Guess what? The judge threw out the case.

Basically, you're full of -blam!-.
