Like I said who here have read the books? I have the box set I am currently readind Book 2.
And if you have no idea what i'm talking about the let me fill you in. Halo and Halo 2 are based off of 2 books out of a 3 book series they were written by Eric Nylund with the exception of book 2 which was written by William Dietz.
Book 1: The Fall of Reach By: Eric Nylund
Book 2: The Flood By: William Dietz ( Halo 1)
Book 3: First Strike By: Eric Nylund ( I haven't read the book yet but I think it is Halo 2)

dude! you are an idiot! You think the games are made after the books?!?!?! Look at the picture on the cover dude. Ok after that look at the back... (see the bungie logo?). K? lastly look at the first edition date: november 2001. Halo was out b4 that. Then.... on the cover it says "The official prequel to the award-winning Xbox(tm) game!". I'm pretty sure the books are based off the games. beside that... ya I'm a fan.

The books were written after the game was made, the books are based on the game, although if you read First Strike you will find contradictions between it and Halo 2. They never mention the destruction of their space station or the 500 covenant ships in Halo 2, you don't see any of the other Spartans in Halo 2, you don't have the Magnum described in First Strike, instead you have a crappy pistol, the covenant didn't know about the humans on Earth, odd considering they were amassing a sizable fleet at that station (can't recall it's name) with the purpose of going to Earth, the Magnetic Accelerator Cannons are underpowered and they are obviously less advanced than the ones described in Fall of Reach.

Awesome books. Once I learn some computer animation I'm gonna make a lame atempt to create CGI movies of them.
But yeah, hate to burst your bubble, they are based on Halo 1. Bungie has been developing the game past like 1995. The authors of the books had to follow a "Halo Bible" in order to make them accurate.
They do a great job of shedding light on the spartans. They also make the chief more, how should I say it, "human". In the flood he actually loses his head and panics sorta when he encounters a pod of infection forms and even has one attach to his neck.
That stuff would've made sick cienematics in the game.

Looks like someone is reading backwards...

My neighbour has read them all 8times over and we sometimes argue things like: Hey d-weed, the arbiter isn't Zuka Zamamee, hes the Guardian of the luminous key!!!! and... don't be an idiot... firing a nuclear warhead at Gamma station wouldn't EMP the orbital guns super-conductive coils; yes they would you idiot!!!! They're both in orbit around reach, of course it would!

I've almost finished all 3 for the second time, I read them when I get bored at school or when we're doing group work.

Halo is actually based somewhat on a book. I can't remember who wrote it, but its like 500 pages and it's called "RingWorld".

It was also quite amusing... AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH SPLAT!!! The fact that he lied to lead the op to kill the MC was also sad. I liked the part in the cargo bay of the POA when it was occupied by the covies... With the jackal vs grunt thing, and when Yayap panics and throws a plasma grenade into the cargo moduel, I wonder what expensive hardware it contained... Apart from the comedy, Eric Nulynd [sp?] had more technical/scientific reasons for everything which was better.

I was wondering if anyone had the second book because I borrowed it from my friend and the book skipped from page 20 to like page 60 and I don't know why.

I have read all three, and the third one lets out quite some time before Halo 2, but the main thing that strikes me is: what happened to the other spartans in halo 2? anybody know? because I've been wandering, I guess I'll just have to wait 'till next book

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

The books are based off the game not the other way around.

My favorite book was THE FLOOD, I liked how it followed the events on halo from the view points of the Marines and ODSTs. It was great.

My Favorte character was Locklear from First Strike

They are correct. On the copyright page it says that the copyright is 2001 and that the first edition was made on November 2001. I have read the series twice now, but I have not gotten a chance to play through Halo 2... ...they reason the pistol in Halo 2 is not the same pistol mentioned in First Stirke is because, well think about it. Master Chief finds a crate of ammo, and probably takes about 5 clips for the magnum. Those 5 clips probably won't last the engagement he had on the Unyeilding Heirophant (the big space station that the Master Chief and 3 surviving spartans destroy). Therefore, he had to go back to the M6D...the problem is, bungie thought the M6D was too effective, and they changed it to the M6B (it may not be called that in the instruction manual, I haven't looked).

Also, just for the sake of argument, grunts_r_us, the Arbiter is probably the Guardian of the Luminous Key. In the final chapter of First Strike, the High Prophet of Truth tells Tartus to punish the "incompetent, High One. The one who lost the Ascendant Justice." by the magnitude of his failure. The arbiter is "the former Supreme Commander of the Fleet of Particular Justice, who lost the first Halo to the humans when they detonated the Pillar of Autumn's fusion drive, as well as allowed the survivors to escape the system in the Ascendant Justice. He was disgraced and branded with the Mark of Shame, but the High Prophets of Truth and Mercy decided to make him the Arbiter after allowing him one last chance to serve the Covenant. By traveling to a Forerunner mining facility within Threshold to quell "the heresy" which was taking place there."

You are correct about the Arbitor being the keeper of luminous key. In the Last chapter of first strike Regret tells Tartarus to find him and punish him.

And in the Cut Scene of Halo 2 the Arbitor says I followed the human ship with my fleet. So He was the senior officer at halo.

Has for the pistol. There are many ways the the changing of the pistol happend if it where to be explained in the books. But its something that is unimportant and in no way affects the story. The MC never used it In First Strike after he got a hold of the BR and SMG.

funny, I don't remember anything about a luminous key, or the Arbiter or Tartarus being in the books. Then again I read the books over a year ago so...

They're not contradictions so much as they aren't discussed or addressed in the game. I was pretty disappointed they didn't touch on the other Spartans.

Anyway, the books are an excellent read and add a lot to the Halo experience. As well, going through ilovebees.com is another great thing to do for even more Halo story.

And the pistol was nerfed due to it being overpowered in multiplayer.

The Books are based off the game.

We know why the pistol was removed but are trying to explain it in the books

Does anyone know when the next book comes out? I'v been waiting for the next one for some time now. Also I would have to add, that Eric Nylund is a better author for the seriers, the other guy isn't bad, but, as was pointed out Nylund has more tech. reasons for things, which is rather cool. Also one thing, a little side note in "The Fall of Reach" when all the Spartans are gathered together in the apatheater (yes, sp I know, but I'm lazy) Dr. Hasley says that all the Spartans were here, except for 3 that were to far away to be called back. Just a little side note I know, but stil an intersting though that there could be 3 more Spartans some were. Also, I personaly though that Halo 2 would have been that much better if it follow the storie of the Book "First Strike" then as it did. Don't get me wrong, Halo 2 is still one of the best games ever, but the storie line would have been better and a little more interseting with the other Spartans in it. Of course, I'm sure being last of the best has a certine appel to some people, but then again, no one ever said that the spartans had to fight together in the game, if they were there, but still it wouldn't make much since if they didn't... I was also POwed when they didn't explain how they got to Earth from Halo. anyway, I just though I would mention some things here. g2g.

Fall of Reach was the best by far. It was interesting to see how the spartans actually became spartans.

I hope that if they actually make a movie for Halo. It'd have a timeline where it shows the ending of Fall of Reach, and picks up at The Flood.

I disagree. By the end of First Strike I was so damn sick of the line "and bullets holes/shots flew/etc. where he was just a second before." I've read that line about 20 times through those books and I am so sick of it.
