I've always wanted a bar showing how close I was to my next skill level in Halo 3's multiplayer, so for Halo Reach there should be a skill bar that shows how close or far you are from your next skill level.

There can be a skill bar for each ranked playlist.

This has nothing to do with taking out trueskill or whatever, so just calm down, this is just a bar showing how close you are to ranking up.

The Oblivious Murderer

Well if they continue to use trueskill then this would be useless because I believe it is based a a complex mathematical equation which is different for ever person.

No, wouldn't be noticed, you don't play Halo to level up, you play because it is an awesome game. If you play for levels then shame on you.

How would this be useless, it could help if lets say you wanted to play a ranked game for fun, but if you saw you were very close to ranking down you might want to warm up or play serious.

Do you really care? you can't automatically see my signature anyway.

it's mu and sigma and it determines you're how well you do and how much room you have for improvement so it's not something that can just show you how far you are from the next level but I hope for everyone's sake there is no trueskill.

I'm not saying thats all Halo is about, I'm just suggesting this because it would be very good to have, and obviously a big part of the game IS ranking up, thats what skill was made for.

I don't understand...why would you guy be against this? Wouldn't it be nice to see how close you are to your next rank?

Being against it and it being impossible because of the current system is use are 2 different things.

How is it impossible? It could simply portray how close you are to your next rank, trueskill or not. I don't understand.

Corn, Oil, and Wine... We need more wine...

Nope, just get rid of the "skill" system all together, it has way too many bugs, and can easily be abused. ie. Second accounters, boosters, etc...

I'm surprised that so many people are against this idea..I mean come on, how are you against this? Its like saying "NO! I don't want to be able to see how much gas I have left in my car!"

A skill bar for a nonlinear ranking system would be pointless and only drive you mad as you obsesse over it trying to predict what could happen knowing full well that it will go up or down by an unpredictable ammount for every win and loss.

Best to just stay in the dark.

The same can be said about your skill, why are you trying to demonize this, is it so bad to ask for a simple gauge that shows how close you are to ranking up?

I think they should make a ranking system where you go up depending on how good you did in the game, not like in H3 where you only go up if you win. For example if you get the best K/D, head shots, least deaths, most kills, biggest multi-kill or biggest streak ect.

You don't go up for just winning I have lost HORRIBLY and still went up it doesn't really make sense.

No, Halowaypoint has nothing to do with skill or ranking.

Alright good, people are actually saying yes now.

  • 11.17.2009 5:08 PM PDT

well for trueskill it wouldn't work but for experience it would work.

it could just tell you how much exp you need to from brigadier grade 2 to brigadier general.

You know all the "I won 25 games and lost one and went down a rank!!!11!!!one!" threads we get right now? Imagine all th e "I won two games and lost one and my bar dropped below it's original point!!!" threads we would have?

Not pretty.

for the last time this isn't call of duty!

serious note, nah ill pass

EDIT:
and i assume you are talking about the rank up bar that's on the bottom of the screen on call of duty? if not my bad. but still would be pointless since we already have this in our service records and to be able to tell if your about to level down or close to level up maybe. if this is what your talking about of course.

Who cares, people complain about everything, saying you don't want it because random people over the internet may complain is a very weak argument.

Also, this can only show for you personally or there should at least be an option too.
