Subject: How should the enemies interact with each other?

My troll sense is tingling.

One thing that always fascinated me in the Halo novels was the way the various Covenant interacted with each other. We've barely seen this in the games, but I feel that it would make combat much more interesting. Here are a few ideas I have for interactions.

Grunts: Grunts are the bottom of the barrel, and they certainly feel like it and most often hate it. Grunts don't get on well with Jackals, as the Grunts often get bullied by them. One idea here is for Grunts to get harshly woken up by Jackals when they sleep. Elites tend to threaten the Grunts into order. They could pull back Grunts that try to run away, or even push them forward to look for the Player if the Player is nowhere to be seen. Brutes also ruled over the Grunts, but in a much more violent way. They could possibly attach a spike grenade on a grunt and throw the Grunt at the player. Or maybe even shoot Grunts if the Player hides or runs off, as a way of blaming them for losing the player. Grunts can also interact harshly or lovingly with other Grunts. They could mourn over a fallen Grunt or maybe even laugh at them.

Brutes: Brutes weren't exactly popular amongst the Covenant. Brutes would act violently with Elites, due to their power struggle. Brutes could refuse to follow orders, or even assume command themselves. Needless to say, combating both Brutes and Elites at the same time would offer an interesting challenge.

If anybody else has any ideas they would like to see in the AIs social interaction, go ahead and post them.

Proud frenchie, elite fan, anthro artist not hellbent on yiff convention/pics/whatever, mature and intelligent forum guy, 4chaner, halo 2 lover and halo 3 hater.

hunters : when you're in a fight and 2 hunters rush at you, the other covenants should move away from their paths, afraid of being crushed.
and during combat, both hunters stay close to each other, one acts as a giant shield with his own body while the other shoots at you as quick as he can. they DO NOT try to rush at you (usually, one runs at you while the other just looks and waits for his brother to die)... they stay far away (10 meters), move so you can't see their backs.
you need teamwork or heavy weapons to kill them.

That Foman guy freaking hates me.

I think this idea's good, showing what the races are like to each other rather than just seeing each one trying to shoot you/run away when they start fighting you.
Maybe if you manage to sneak up on a group of them, they can be seen arguing, rarely fighting/killing each other.

Random idea: There could be an easter egg where if you deviate from the normal path of a mission you see a clearing with quite a few covenant there, of all races.
There would be a Brute war Chieftan and an Elite High ranking soldier (Don't know much about Elite military ranks.. ), and they'd be arguing over who should lead the ambush they're preparing. They then start being racist to each other and saying who should ultimately be the higher military rank in the Covenant. A Grunt would interrupt with his opinion in favour of the Elites, and the Chieftan simply then smacks him into a rock with his Fuel Rod Cannon, killing him. Fighting then erupts between the Brutes and Grunts, and the Elites try and kill the Brutes.

The Drones chip in to help the Brutes, and the Hunters start shooting at the Brutes. The Grunts, however are split. Half run, scared of the in-fighting, and the other half avenge their fallen squad mate and start shooting the Brutes.
Then one of two 50/50 chance endings happen.

In one, the Elies, Hunters and Grunts win. Quite a few of each are dead, of course, and one of the two hunters are down. The Hunter then starts mourning his comrade by kneeling beside it, or the Hunter way of kneeling. The Elite High-Rank then starts doing another 50/50 thing. One, the Elite merely says that they should always remain supreme military wise. The other, the Elite starts preaching that this power struggle is the first of many, that he suspects the Great Journey is a lie, a means for the Prophets to control them, and that they should leave the Covenant to join the Humans, he would then start boasting the Humans are as honorable as they are.

The other ending would be Brutes winning of course, and 50/50 chance again, one thing they'd say is that they should overthrow the Elites. The other thing is that they should then overthrow the Prophets, and lead the Great Journey themselves.

You'd be able to attack these Covvies, but would you really want to single handedly (On normal or above, anyway) attack about 20 Grunts, 10 Jackals, 2 Hunters, 12 Brutes including War Chieftan, and the same amount of Elites as Brutes, along with a good 15 Drones. Oh, and an armourless Engineer, but that floating purple playdough thing would just be there for show, he'd float up to escape the fighting that happens. If you shot it, it would die in one hit and it doesn't attack or affect the others or you in any way.

Sorry for the wall of text, must've got carried away...
EDIT: Lol, could be an achievment to kill all the enemies there (Apart from the fleeing Engineer) on Heroic or above with only a BR and AR.

Admin of Coup D Bungie

PM me any Coup questions you have.

I love the fact that you mentioned attaching a spike grenade to a grunt then throwing them. THAT WOULD BE EPIC!!! hahahaha

Group invites will be treated very poorly because the Care Package is empty.

Avatar was awesome! If there is to be a Halo movie, make sure James Cameron gets the job!

I think that there should be a greater use of awareness. Like when a Grunt throws a grenade, others do the same. I was done in Halo 3 but not very often.

I also want to see more of the stuff 'backstage', like the Grunt's food nipple, I have a picture in my head but I need it cleared up!

Also, when you stick a Grunt, it runs away from it's team instead of towards. In other words, an AI form of common sense.

Yes, piggy-back rides are a must. Along with the occasional chest bump.

impossible is just a word

Awesome ideas also jackals should be more aggressive towards everything e.g you sniping at the middle of a mission you come to a bit like in Sierra 117 at the end with the grav ham you see an elite order a jackal to get back to his post the jackal then jumps on to the elite in rage is then thrown of by the elite the jackal then raises from the floor and goes to his post
