Gameplay wise - No I don't mean knifes, sprint button, or anything Call of Dutyish. I mean like I don't know...put some action into the game? Action like you have no gun and your hopelessly outnumbered running for your life and trying to escape/evade covenant squads. Something that pretty much keeps us on the edge of our seats.
It would be a first good level I think

No. Modern Warfare 2 was a move from point A to point B level design with the rare side mission to defend this or kill that. I want Reach's levels to be open and vary more from running from A to B without getting killed.

He wasn't talking about the actual level design, just the ambiance in the levels. The sheer amount of stuff going on in the background, like helicopters in the sky, the sound effects, stuff exploding, and the level of destruction.

Whats funny about this thread is if the OP simply took one of the scenarios in MW2 he's describing but replaced the assets with things from Halo (vehicles, buildings and characters) and never mentioned MW2, everyone would be like "crap that sounds awesome!"

But because he mentions the phrase "MW2", it turns into a flamefest.

O WOW DUDE y dont u get out of bungie forums if all u gonna say is "hay bungie can u please make HALO 3: REACH into CALL OF DOODIE: reach" i mean really comon

*ahem*

Agreed 100%
MW2 has an amazing atmosphere... just a sense of the chaos of a battlefield. Of course Halo should still have less complicated environments which are more open and non-linear in the classic Halo style, but that doesn't mean that Bungie can't take a page from MW2 when it comes to a real feeling of combat. It just makes the game more intense; puts us in the shoes of the character.

Speaking of which, I like the view from behind the riot shield in MW2... reminds me of looking out through a helmet. If we ever get a Halo with a more realistic looking environment/atmosphere, I would like the HUD to change with it... just make it look like we're in the Helmet.

Seriously though, remember the "No Russian" mission? I hated going through it (skipped it the first time), but it really helped to put a face on the enemy. Showed us who were were fighting, and why we had to stop them.

I think it was overly-powerful, though, as we were people killing people. In Halo, however, playing as an Arbiter or Zealot for a mission or two slicing our way through a UNSC ship's helpless personnel, would really help cement for the player just how ruthless the Covenant are. How important it is for the Spartans to stand between the Covenant and Humanity as often as possible.

And live to do it another day.

Yeah thats all I want and really trying to say thanks for actually reading the post and giving me some REAL feedback. :) Everyone on this darn forums can't get past there fanboyism and actually bother to consider how this would make the game better , instead they see the words MW2 or CoD and automatically say "no."

P.S. I agree on the "No Russian" mission. Hated playing it. :/ But it did make you wanna fight them more and make them pay.

men you are right, the game will be a lot better if they start thinking in a realistic way...

No. Halo is Halo. It should be left as bright and colorful as possible. There should definetely be no burning cities as that would make little kids like me and the rest of the Halo Community have nightmares. And don't even get me started about action. MW2 was a terrible game because it made me get stressed at the first sign of combat and poop my pants. No one wants that. The gameplay in COD is way too realistic. I want to be able to take a 1000 bullets and live not die instantly. After real warfare is way too scary for little kids like us so why not dumb it down a little, which is what halo does.

  • 11.11.2009 6:57 AM PDT

Ya Halo Reach should be like MW2, You spawn and die in three seconds.

I think the MW2 multiplayer levels are fun though, Bungie really needs to make some sweet multiplayer levels are the craptacular ones that H3 gave us.

Halo is Halo. Stop trying to make it into Call of Duty. Reach of course will have amazing graphics and will have a spectacular story to go with it. Just wait and see and stop complaining. Go play MW2 and stop comparing it to Halo.

Some might argue that genetically enhanced cyborgs fighting over-religious aliens AND zombies over a superweapon that will destroy the galaxy isn't exactly spectacular story.

Some might argue that a game where all you are doing is playing as a marine fighting terrorists and russians over the safety of one capitalist nation isn't exactly a spectacular story.

I think what Reach needs is more of those Jaw Dropping moments that occurred in MW 2, for those of you who have played the campaign, you should know what I'm talking about. There was so many time when my jaw literally dropped, it was amazing. It was these moments that kept me playing through MW 2's campaign, and rightfully so.
What I also enjoyed about MW 2 is the way they presented their story. With the different characters and how their stories linked, it was really cool. Granted, ODST had this element, but it was not combined with these Jaw Dropping moments, something I think the campaign really needs.
Think about it, how cool would it have been if you could play a section of the game, or more cinematic's like the Halo 3 CG trailer presented for the SuperBowl that year? I wish they had done that...
In regards to the Art, I know what you mean. The commercials always present Halo as a darkish game, but then in the game, its a bit more colourful. It would be nice if it was a bit darker, tone wise.

Bungie has to start banning threads that have anything to do with MW2...when i play Halo:Reach i wanna play Halo:Reack not CoD MW2,if i wanna play mw2,ill play mw2.if i wanna play halo, ill play halo.i dont want them mixed, neither do most of the community.see where im coming from?go home and stop trolling

How in anyway am I trolling!? Please tell me? I am simply suggesting a couple of ideas that would be great for Halo.

PLEASE GET PAST YOUR FANBOYISM!

How 'bout you get past your CoD Fanboyism and let Halo be Halo and not CoD Halo..

COD Fanboyism? I love Halo but there are a lot of things Halo and Bungie just have not been able to pull off. Things that Infinity Ward has consistently done brilliantly in their Call of Duty games, particularly MW2, which is absolutely outstanding and...

It shows a War.

We were fighting in Halo 3 a war for our very survival and it barely felt like one.

Things like that, like what the OP is suggesting, should they make it into Halo, will only make it better.

I think most of are in agreement that Bungie needs to make a great game worthy of their last Halo installment, but what they don't need are CoD Fanboys coming in here and telling them "ZOMG U got to make Reach like COD!!" I haven't played MW2 yet, but I have played MW1 and it was a good game, but I don't see anything in comparison and H3 was (in my opinion) a great game. Yeah sure the same can't be said for ODST (getting flame suit on), but Bungie I think will come through in Reach on their own, and not copying / taking ideas from MW2 (2 seperate games.)

Personally i think Bungie will end up making this Halo game the best they have ever made. This is there Last Halo game, so there definitely pulling out the big guns for it. On a environment topic i have a feeling it's going to be like for example when or if you need to be in the air or on a mountain for some reason, you can see depending where you are oncoming explosions, or covenant forces advancing somewhere.
----------I personally feel that one mission you'll see a covenant army start attacking a base with wraiths, ghosts, grunts in front to be meat shields, jackals in front with shields charging elites with swords and plasma rifles drawn, and hunters charging with there shields in attack position, which could be i don't know the beginning kinda like how Brothers in Arms started with the ending first, who knows until Bungie tells us officially we won't know.---------------

But what we do know is that Reach is going to be freaking sick. And it should put Call of Duty look like a chum. =] Long Live Halo

I agree except for this being the last halo game if u remember halo 3 was suppose to be the last halo game yet they continue to make halo games.

Life is contradictory and ambiguous but it also isn't.

why does everyone immediately make it a pissing contest over which game is better? They both rock, basically all the OP wants is for Reach to have better storytelling, which I agree with.

  • 11.11.2009 7:36 AM PDT

Nothing is true. Everything is permitted.

Okay so I've returned and read everyones posts and I think some people are still a little confused as what I'm trying to point out here. So once again let me clarify.

I never said I wanted it exactly like MW2, I only wish that Bungie would make the atmosphere more intense and darker (but still with the Halo art style) and make it look like a REAL battle is going on seeing as The Battle of Reach was one of the biggest battles in the Halo story. I was only using MW2 as an example on how they could achieve this and those who have played the campaign will agree with me. (Well some of you.)

please, please change your title.

Or else everyone isn't going to read your thread & just flame.
when it isn't fanboy at all, you just used COD's scenery as an example.

Goes to show how narrow minded people are nowadays (well some posters on the Bungie forums). They immediately see the words MW2 or CoD and immediately decide to flame it without bothering to read the OP.

  • 11.11.2009 7:56 AM PDT

So it's 4:30am....

First of all, props the the OP for mentioning MW2 on a Bungie forum.

Second, I agree with the changes environmental wise, but not gameplay wise.

If it's the battle for Reach, their should be banshees swooping overhead, pelicans crashing, marines dying around you etc.

If Bungie changed the game gameplay wise then it would change Halo (most likely for the worst). People love the gameplay of Halo, which is why it is popular, if they changed it then that would ruin that 30 seconds of fun, over and over again, which is what Halo is all about.

I see your point on the gameplay part. But I don't mean like a drastic change in gameplay just like have one level where your unarmed and alone the whole time and you have to evade covenant squads and the occasional assassination to the back kind of thing.

Agreed. Infinity Ward knows what they are doing when it comes to making epic games. Not saying Bungie doesn't make epic games, but other developers, not just Bungie, should consider taking a look at what they did.

And MW2's riot shield would be a great example of how the Jackal shield could be made usable in Halo. I love using that thing in Domination, and it would be fun to use in Halo too.

As I said before...and maybe you should all READ it.

Wrong sir WRONG. Yes Mw2 was epic, I just beat it, and it does have a "wow" factor, because of course going trough an entire airport killing civs just to end up being shot in the face does SHOCK. And having the United States be attacked also is crazy.

YET OMFG WAIT. You know why it's crazy because it's modern. Covenant glassing something is 10000x worse then anything in MW(1/2) but since we will never experience such a thing (as an alien invasion) it wont seem so DEEP.

The covenant are also a lot more deadly and "evil" then most enemies anywhere else in any CoD game, they probably have the highest kill record, and possible kill record. I mean even the Combine havnt killed as much as the Covenant. They outnumber and outpower everything. Just think of it....Hunters alone have a population of about ONE TRILLION. Plus the Grunts, Elites, Drones, Brutes, even Prophets.

So Halo if you take the time to THINK/READ/LISTEN is very deep, and pretty much a lot more deep then CoD, but as I said before since it's a future game and has a 1/100000000000000 chance of becoming real, people wont really "feel" it.

All Bungie has to do is just remind people how "evil" the Covenant are. And just how many people are killed by them.

I'd love to be a 10 year old and tell my mom I'm going on an adventure out into the world catching Pokemon, with her full support. Never mind the fact that there are rapists, criminals, and murders out there, or the fact that I may get killed by a Pokemon.

Luckily I have Pikachu.

I kind of disagree, sure it works for Call of Duty, but Halo 1 was a perfect example of making you feel like you were in a middle of a war and yet it wasn't saturated with 20 million explosions going on around you, nor were there that many scripted events in the game either.

ODST took it a step in the right direction by adding more scripted events throughout the campaign. I think what Bungie should do is make the enviornments muc h larger than Halo 1, fill it with memorable encounters, add a sense of emergency and desperation since this battle will not be going well at all, and add as much scripted events around you that give you as ense that things are not looking up.

I'd say the game should open up with a story summery, show us the detail, the origins and the beggining of the Spartan II program. Show the Spartans after their augmentations battling Insurrectionists, and then show us their fight against the Covenant and how we are losing that conflict.

Bungie also needs to show us a spacebattle in orbit above Reach, and then after the battle the Covenant glasss the majority of Reach.

"Science without religion is lame. Religion without science is blind." - Albert Einstien

One of my problems with CoD graphically is that it is extremely realistic. It is great for portraying real settings but once you transfer this over to a sci-fi medium (Killzone 2/Gears of War) you get stale visuals. I have respect for Halo because it maintains a believable amount of realism while not abandoning its own unique artistic style and color.

You're claim of the battles in Halo not looking like war are entirely subjective. War today is extremely different because of the tools we have at our disposal. Halo has different tools, technologies and really a different way of thinking. It is no surprise that war in Halo is not the same war in the CoD series, just like WWII is nothing like WWI.

If you want the situations without weapon, play Halo CE and Halo 2. Both games start you off weaponless and the first game you have to run through a boarding crew of Covenant without any way to fight back.

Reach could likely have similar mechanics especially since the initial attack is naval.
