Thanks for your input. You can leave now.

As for the OP. I do agree. I don't understand why everyone says, "NO COD IN MEH HALOZ!!!" If it's a good gameplay mechanic, why not use it? But no, everyone's reasoning is that, "It's Halo, not CoD." So you want a game to do worse than it might have with similar gameplay? This logic fails to enlighten me.

Anyway, that's all I wanted to say. I'm so tired of seeing of threads that talking about GoW2 and Halo in the same sentence of Halo and CoD in the same sentence. You just get a lot of idiotic replies.

52,000 kills in Halo 2 and more legendary playthroughs in CE than you can imagine. I am truly a God.

Halo can take some influence from COD but it shouldnt be "like COD". It is its own thing I love it but it can go the next step up by doing its own thing.

what I've noticed (oh and in advance just so you know I've never played CoD... any of them) I've noticed that an idea could be the best idea but as soon as CoD is mentioned it instantly becomes crap.... so if bungie posted the exact same thing, a massive burning battlefield that felt like a battlefield people will think its great but as soon as CoD comes up its crap... next thing you know CoD will have dual wielding and then no one will play halo 2, halo 3 because CoD has it so they don't want halo to be CoD.

Now thats extreme but then again so are half the peoples reactions here. I've never even played CoD because it always sounded like its supposed to be realistic... never been my style. But I like that idea of running through the city as buildings are collapsing, people running around screaming on fire. It would feel like a battlefield.

On a side note I want to see like giant boss battles, where we would have to like take out a super scarab, if there was flood in reach we could like fight a super flood, or something ridiculously huge, kinda like the leviathan in resistance 2 (once again I never played resistance 2 but it looks cool) or if their is a covenant campaign we could be like flying a single banshee trying to take on the mac cannons or sumthing... all I know is it should be huge, crazy, and powerful

  • 11.12.2009 9:04 PM PDT

Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. YES.

One of the reasons that I absolutely HATE the Halo 3 campaign is because it is so boring! If there were more adrenaline-rush missions, I would love it. I hated that the only mission that was close to an adrenaline rush was the last mission of the game. That pissed me off. And I agree that in ODST New Mombasa seemed too... clean, i guess is the word. I totally agree with this, and really hope that Bungie does something like this in Reach.

That's not Halo's style. Stop trying to change what the artists already established.

Halo is a cartoony game with minor realistic features for the sole purpose of suspension of disbelief. If you don't like it, get the -blam!- out.

That's right. I SPELLED that -blam!- out.

They're both good games, but I dont see why there would be want in emulating the other.

It would just create a boring singularity.

HE'S NOT!!!!!!
READ THE OP, PLEASE!!!!

I'm really getting tired of the people in this thread who think they've read through it but haven't and are getting on the case of everyone who disagrees by lumping them together with a generalized assumption that they are being put off merely because MW2 is mentioned.

MW2's atmosphere is not Halo's. Now I'm not talking literally, I'm talking about the war-like feel you desire. Halo, as someone else explained in this thread, has rarely taken place in all out conflicts. Ground battles are very limited and honestly rarely happen unless the Covenant need something from the surface. The ONLY reason these kinds of battles happened in the Halo games is because a majority of the fights took place in areas the Covenant hold sacred, so a ground engagement was safer than just glassing them (like they normally do to human planets after devastating the UNSC navy).

Not only this, but Halo isn't about a war-like feel, but about the overall story of the Human-Covenant war and their interplay with Forerunner technology. Its sci-fi, not a war story. Dark and gritty need not apply because the emotion is in the relative darkness in direct relation to the story itself. All the halo games had their own war-like, chaotic, gritty and even depressing moments. Two Betrayals, Keyes, Truth and Reconciliation, 343 Guilty Spark, The Library, Attack on the Control Room, Quarantine, Metropolis, Uprising, High Charity, Sierra 117, Tsavo Highway, Floodgate... All these levels have one or more of the elements you are looking for. This isn't including any of ODST, which if anyone has played as the rookie or listened to the audio files knows just what happened at New Mombasa and how gritty it was.

it should be like MW2 with all the cool moments and stuff, but the story kinda sucked in MW2, even though it was a fun campaign.

GTFO, Let me tell you why Reach should not be like MW2

CoD2=Cod1
Cod3=Cod2
Cod4=cod3
MW2=MW1

You see what im getting at here?

No matter what CoD game you play you will always be playing the same EXACT game no matter what.

Halo changes through all of its games and has different gameplay. I would never even think good of anyone who wants this game to be like Cok Of Dooty

-_-

Really!? I'm tired of you people not reading my OP.

Yes I know but wouldn't you want there to be SOME action in Halo? And if not direct action atleast some action going on around you.

...graphically and environmentally wise. (And a bit gameplay wise.)

As many of you know MW2 just came out and for those who have played the campaign will know what I'm talking about.

But for those who don't let me clarify. By graphically and environmentally wise I mean in a few levels of MW2 it shows citys on fire, buildings blown up, destroyed, the sky filled with helicopters, gun shots and smoke and fire and well it looks like a REAL battlefield. Most of you may have noticed that Halo shows none (if barely) any characteristics resembling a war. And you would think aliens invading earth and planets and trying to kill of the human race would be more bloodshot and darker looking then just humans against humans.

Gameplay wise - No I don't mean knifes, sprint button, or anything Call of Dutyish. I mean like I don't know...put some action into the game? Action like you have no gun and your hopelessly outnumbered running for your life and trying to escape/evade covenant squads. Something that pretty much keeps us on the edge of our seats.

tl;dr version: Make the enviroment more darker and look like a real battlefield and put some action into the game that'll keep us on the edge.

Thoughts? Comments?

(Oh and no I'm not a Call of Duty fanboy before anyones says that. I just simply thought the game was amazing due to its environment and the keep you on the edge of your seat moments and I'm hoping Bungie thinks about this to make Halo: Reach the best damn game out there.)

Man, you should have reworded and removed the words 'Modern Warfare 2', then you wouldn't have these complaint posts.

I for one, agree that Halo should have a similar feel to what the Call of Duty franchise has achieved, warzones that actually have action in the background. Parts of missions where certain circumstances change the gameplay for a while.

Of course Halo isn't CoD. Why is it that it's always compared to CoD? There are other FPS's out there with the same basic level of action that CoD has. The real problem I see with Halo is that it doesn't feel like you're in any real danger. On the other hand, in games like CoD, all of the explosions, gunfire everywhere, buildings blowing up, give you feeling of real danger. In Halo it just feels like you're a one man army walking through levels killing anything in your past. There isn't any real challenge. And this doesn't make any sense. It seems that if you're desperately fighting for the survival of all mankind against blood thirsty religious fanatics that want your head on a pike, then you should maybe feel like you're in danger. Halo does not deliver in that aspect.

Also agreed 100%. The ONLY thing holding Halo's campaign back from GREATNESS is the lack of adrenaline missions. If Halo had more of its story-telling from a 1st person helmet cam and more adrenaline missions where you would play in a scenario outside of the normal fps, say like gunning Covenant down from a Pelican or using a MAC Blast on a Cruiser, then Halo would be THAT MUCH BETTER.

Most of us have always wanted epic battles in Halo games, and I'd love to see it in Reach. Dozens of Scorpions duking it out with Scarabs and Wraiths, Longsword strikes, Gauss Hogs wailing on Choppers, CCS glassings, shiva nukes, Spartans, ODST drops, machine gun fire, crashing ships, supermacs, jackal snipers, spec op elites. I want all of that.

I was always disappointed that the battles of New Mombasa were so...... empty.

yeah, no don't, make halo anywhere close to mw2 in gameplay. Only graphics wise which I don't even think is a good idea anyways.

I agree. The snowmobile level in MW2 was epic. We need a level that makes you interact with your environment, and not pushing a button and making a bridge appear, either.

If I may make a suggestion? Put a tl;dr sentence at the top of your post so you stop getting flamed.
