Please read the whole post before replying. I hopefully didn't copy any recent games, the only game that I recall that had a similar feature was a 007 game for the N64.

We seriously need one. It would be amazingly fun. It would have an incredibly long respawn time, and would only appear on rather large maps.

The guided missile launcher would be capable of holding 2, 3 or 4 missiles, and cannot be reloaded. Each missile does about as much damage as the current Halo 3 rocket.

When you fire a missile, you lose control of your Spartan/Elite/whatever, and you are put into first-person view, from the perspective of the missile. It travels at a relatively quick speed (between that of a Banshee, and a boosting Banshee). The 'B' button would detonate the missile. If the missile travels too far or for too long, you begin to lose control of the missile, and it starts to spiral out of control.

EDIT:
An alternative to being steered by the player, it could be guided by a laser.

I think a Half-life lazer guided system would be better. Loosing control of your player makes you too vulnerable.

Wherever you roam
so far from home
you'll be safe from peril
life threatening and terrible
if you avoid David Powel
and keep track of your towel.

Those were cool back in the '90s. These days people are all about self-guided and laser-guided missiles.

In the days of old, there were legends of a land long lost to time. This land was known as Ranna'Mor. Ranna'Mor was said to contain in its borders 7 warriors. These warriors had once unleashed a veritable hell upon the ancient world, until they were locked away. My name is Toriad, and I am one of those warriors. Our return is approaching. Do not run away, do not cower in fear; take solace in your final days, for that is all we can do. -Legend of Ranna'Mor

Now this is one of the better ideas I've heard for Reach. From your description, it sounds like the batterangs in Batman: Arkham Asylum. It could work

This body holding me reminds me of my own mortality.
Embrace this moment. Remember. We are eternal.
All this pain is an illusion.

I love the HL2 rocket launcher, so I'm all for something similar to that being put in

I was talking about the old HL, but same thing. (Ithink it's bit slower though idk)

After finding a video of what you were talking about, I couldn't agree with you're idea more.

Doc: "i'm a pacifist"
Caboose: "your a thing that babies suck on?"
Tucker: "no dude, that's a pedephile"
Church: "tucker, i think he means a pacifier"

Considering that in most MP games, standing still for too long equals death, I think this is a poor idea. Even in Agent Under Fire (007 for the xbox) the guided rocket was a good idea, but left you entirely too vulnerble.

Also in Perfect Dark on N64 for the record

lol I'm still in progress of playing the original HL, so I can't compare the two yet

I am afraid of what people might be able to do given sufficient practice with it.

That is EXACTLY why we need one. Just like the Spartan Laser, and other various amazing power weapons.

  • 11.11.2009 11:25 AM PDT

Personally, I think an actual "skilled" person in Halo 3 is someone who knows how to win with every weapon and combo in the game, not just a single weapon like the BR, Sniper, or even the AR. Of course, that excludes me, as I have yet to get a kill with dual plasma pistols. :D

I like the idea of a Half-Life-style rocket launcher, but it seems like it would be too powerful unless it also had the downside it had in that game - being destructible, as in if someone sees it coming, they can shoot it down.

  • 11.11.2009 11:56 AM PDT

Yeah it'd have to be destuructable and either too fast or just a bit too slow somthing like that. I don't feel like making all the details right now.

Agreed.

I loved camping in the bathroom on facility with a laptopgun guarding the door while I drove a missile out through the vents.

ALSO I am SO getting the arcade version :D

lol why not make it like Unreal Tournament's Redeemer?

  • 11.11.2009 12:05 PM PDT

Death to rank junkies.

I agree with this. You get a very powerful weapon, but you are completley dependant on your team mates to protect you.

but that's also the problem with it. Can you honestly rely on your team to protect you? (and not kill you either?)

This was also in Battle Tanks on n64.

It was so funny hahah

That's why you find a good place to use it from.

Don't stand out in the open for too long. Hide in caves, or in small rooms.

Backblast would turn you into chunks.
