-you'd need maps at least 4 times bigger than sandtraps to have a use for them.

No, Valhalla is smaller than Sandtrap and there is a crashed pelican on there. So wouldn't need one. People that say that you need a huuuuge map must really think about it.

your logic is flawed.

Honestly, flying a pelican is alluring to some because it would demonstrate just how big the fight is. Personally, I would prefer to be in the back of one as it flys off t then fall under attack and be forced to fight using the turret in the back of it.

In multiplayer, were they able to work...they would certainly make flow very very different and add something truly different to the experience. But with only 8v8 it wouldnt work at all. It would need at least 12 v 12...or more...

If by next-gen you mean crappy, dark and colorless, I agree. It doesnt look next-gen at all.

Fixed.

Whats the point of having a huge troop transport vehicle when the distances are not that long. By the time you get to the other side of Valhalla on the Pelican, and Land it, someone could have just used the Mancannon or a Mongoose to get to the other side.

Because its one of those Halo wants, kinda like the Golden Warthog.

True, but the map wouldn't need to be 4x bigger than Sandtrap for that. And the main problem I see is, if there was a map that allowed the Pelican to fly easily and the distance manageable then, what happens when your Pelican either A) Gets shot down, or B) Is stolen?

A marsh-like map with bunch of knocked down trees and uneven ground where it would be hard for a car to go through, if you could also add some areas where there were large clumps of trees you could get behind to evade enemy fire, the map could work even if the distances are not that big.

a. if pelican gets shot down, you are screwed, gotta go on foot.
b. pelican gets stolen? tough luck, next time don't leave it unattended.

___________

Btw, i don't really care if a Pelican is, or isn't on an online map.

One does not simply walk into Halo.

Pelicans are just giant transport ships. What we really need are Longswords with Shiva mini nukes. It would be one of the most fun experiences ever in a custom game, or even campaign.

Big Team Battle Multiflag/Slayer on Standoff/Valhalla/Sandtrap/Avalanche = Win

A map will never be big enough for pelicans to be of any real use.

Its like putting a hornet in guardian.

This map is big enough. Just needs some tweaking here and there and it could work (some trees or really tall pillars, something like a space elevator)in those huge open areas.

Might I add that the pelican is probably faster then today's modern airplanes, why the hell would we need a vehicle like that in MM, they would seriously have to tone it down just to make it fair. And then people will whine about it.

Realistically speaking it probably is since it can go up into space. But ingame it is somewhat slow. Slower than a Banshee using its thrusters.

It should work somewhat like the Hornet since its hovering all the time.

Hence why I said custom game. Matchmaking would be Chaos with a Longsword. Campaign could benefit from it though.

Bear in mind that a pelican could easily handle standard infantry weapon fire. Could you please name which weapons would be capable of taking down a Pelican, besides the rare spartan laser?

According to Halo 3, Banshees' fuel rod shots.

Reachhhhhhhh

@ x Lord Revan x

I love this idea. Although I do not think Bungie should even think about "drivable pelicans", I do feel like this kind of level is also necessary. This level would be SO intense. It seems like it would be so much more epic than actually driving it.

  • 11.11.2009 4:02 PM PDT

Sent the map 11/27. Hope it all goes well.

I would preferably be on foot, or another vehicle, or stay at the base than be in a pelican.

I've never seen the thing land. It never lands without smashing the nose into the ground.

Oh well. A landing you can walk away from is a good landing.

Jokes aside, I would like to see a pelican, if it actually serves a purpose. So far, the ground vehicles and the banshee can make it to one side of the map to the other just fine(so long as you don't get blasted). It would be kinda hard to put one in unless you got a huge amount of ground to cover.
