Wherever you roam
so far from home
you'll be safe from peril
life threatening and terrible
if you avoid David Powel
and keep track of your towel.

I take it that you voted yes?

Why would you want a game with only one mission?

Simply put, he won't be.

Master Chief had an insignificant role in the Battle of Reach. He went onto a sattelite. Killed one elite and a couple of grunts and jackals. Destroyed the computer core. Went back to the Pillar of Autumn, then left to go to the first Halo.

Furthermore, we won't be playing as anyone we already know about in the books. Nobody wants to play a game with the same redundant viewpoint as characters in a book you read. That would turn the game into a checklist of "First he does this, check, then he does this, check, then he does that, check..."

We will be playing as a spartan in a squad of five spartans. This has been confirmed by Joe Staten. So which five? Five spartans that the book never introduced. There were 30 some spartans fighting in the battle of Reach, we only met a few of them. Its easy to make a game that explores the ultimate fate of five of these unknown spartans while sticking to the canon. Furthermore, if we were to play someone from the book, we know that either that person dies or lives, and all tension created by the game is ruined. By focusing on new characters that most probably will die, there is suspense throughout the game.

Well, its pretty much all we have in the form of confirmed media.

1. The Master Chief came back for his comrades.

2. The Spartans we know of did more then what we have read.

3. Almost all of them died. The ones we know of were the only ones that survived because they were on the unglassed portion of the planet.

1. The Master Chief came back for his comrades.

A few weeks after he left the planet. Besides, do you know how odd it would be to play a game where you play one mission, leave on the ship, it blacks out during the events of Halo CE, then he comes back to Reach? Plus the most exciting part of Reach happened before Chief left, not after. I don't want to play a game about a stalemate that Chief had with a couple thousand covenant.

2. The Spartans we know of did more then what we have read.

But the spartans that we don't know of can do anything they want without having to worry about being in place X at Y time. And it offers a completely different perspective of the conflict than what the book gives us.

3. Almost all of them died. The ones we know of were the only ones that survived because they were on the unglassed portion of the planet.

Because said are the only ones the book focused on. Its entirely possible that more survived but were unable to help. Plus, if the progagonists die at the end of the game, who cares? It still sticks to canon.

1. Agree.
2. True.
3. Entirely possible yes, but not likely I believe.

Am not trying to support playing as Master Chief in Reach because, in my opinion, that would be stupid. Something new and exciting is much better imo.
