Subject: Zero-Gravity and vacuum combat in Reach.

This is highly unlikely, but I was thinking if we had a Campaign mission in space, we could have some Zero-Gravity combat. It was mentioned briefly in the Halo Wars comic (included with the LE copy), that both human and covenant troops were trained to fight in situation where gravity was absent. So I thought, why not include it in Reach?
Any thoughts? Suggestions?

NOTE: I edited the thread's title, seeing as it would probably attract more suggestions.

Explain how it would work. Would you be able to control what direction you're going and, if so, how? Explain.

Off an old James Bond game(Nightfire if anyones played it) the level in space has no gravity and you control by crouching and jumping to go up or down.

I actually mentioned this is another thread bro!
In the actual story of Reach the chief fights on on the orbital platforms around Reach to destroy data on the whereabouts of Earth while the UNSC Navy and Covenant Fleet battle in Space and on Reach. The fight is in zero gravity at parts ,itd be awesome so it would, plus srg.Johnson is involved in that fight for added epicness!

I was thinking something similar to Dead Space, where you aim where you want to go and then propel yourself onto a wall or ceiling. It would make gameplay a lot more taxing, but once mastered it would be ever so fun.

Zero gravity melee fight with an Elite Honor Guard =)

Or...

A Hunter =)

Would be funzeez.

Exactly, fights would become very different and more fun.
Of course this would mean implemanting a new system, but wouldn't it be great? Imagine being in a space vacuum. No air but the supply in your suit would make you move much quicker and make rash decisions, but would also silence the sounds, that could be a brilliant way for Bungie to prove themselves in the audio department (not suggesting there was ever a problem) and win back some of the people they lost in ODST.

Totally agree man. It really does sound awesome. Flying from your UNSC ship to the orbital platforms with covenant cruisers firing at them, ships exploding, banshees fighting longswords. epic :)

Damn you 353 guilty spark! You killed the greatest stereotypical african american gun toting sergeant ever to tread upon a fictional futuristic setting!

It says in The Fall of Reach that a spartan could survive in the vacuum of space for up to 15 minutes. Maybe not an entire mission in space, but I think it would be badass if you had to jump from your ship to a covenant space craft to blow it up or something like that.

Im baking the brownies now ;)

Yeh man it would be great. Just to feel involved in the massive space fight they had, itd be fantastic.

i know they did it in halo2 but all you could do was jump higher, i want a tad more than that lol

15 minutes, eh? How about escaping a Covenant cruiser after sabotaging it's life support systems and create a vacuum with zero-gravity enabled. It could happen.

In complete void you could propel yourself with just gun fire, although the spartans had Thruster packs.

..Escaping the Covenant cruiser as it explodes around you but you also have a UNSC cruiser on standby to MAC its A$$ ,just as you jump you witness it being split from top to bottom by the MAC round.

Epic Win :)

  • 11.12.2009 2:42 PM PDT

Depending on where you are in space, and depending on the vacuum, a bullet from a Magnum could end up like a rapid rocket launcher that could pierce enemies. But that's only if it gains infinite velocity.

Haha it would be amazing. I sure hope they focus some attention to the space battles in Reach, if they are stuck for ideas they could read this thread :)

  • 11.12.2009 2:50 PM PDT

Or we could post it to them :)

  • 11.12.2009 2:51 PM PDT

Excellent. Nod grows stronger by your victories.

If they could somehow pull this off... I'd do this.
