So I was just done playing some Mw2 and ODST back to back and noticed something, well it's been in EVERY game since Quake and Doom. And that's that your allies and enemies never really run out of ammo or grenades. They just shoot forever until they die or win. And of course your character is stuck with a few clips and limited grenades.

"SO OMG USE WANT INFIN AMMO 24/7"...WRONG!

I think that in Reach, either in all difuculity levels or limited, or even as an option that allies and enemies should have a limit to ammo.

But like, wait...Wouldnt that make the game too easy
Not really, for one you wouldbe be able to just give allies power weapons and have them own things. If you give a marine a rocket launcher with 2 shots....he will only have 2 shots.

Also your enemies and allies would have (perhaps) a slight increase in ammo, by 1 or 2 clips. And since you and your men have a limited amount of ammo you can easily become "drained" just as much as the enemy could.

What happens when everyone gets "empty"
Easy, for one enemies and allies will look for ammo and weapons from fallen comrads or enemies. This would mean Elites could start using Human weapons if they really had to, and humans using covenant weapons. Your men would look for ammo, grenades.

This would bring some realism but yet a good sence of fun and originality to not just Halo but pretty much all shooter games in general.

And what about turrets and vehicles
Well I would say keep them like they are. Mounted turrets and vehicle (weapons) should have UNLIMITED ammo just like all other Halo games.

And here's a fun little scene to think about
You have 2 Spartan's and 5 Marines in a building, your against 2 Elites, 2 jackals and 4 grunts. And you manage to all run out of ammo, theres not around. So you and your Spartans have to rush your enemy and get into a huge hand-to-hand combat fight.
Grunts wont do much but run, Elites will give you a good fight and jackals will try to take on your marines (hand-to-hand).

So in the end
Such an idea could work and would be very new and interesting IMO. Having a big battle and having enemies and allies both have there "mind" on ammo or such would be interesting. This wouldn't mean battles would be shorter at all, they would last as long as any battle would or could. Also it could turn into a totally different battle in a matter of minutes, instead of being the same "bam bam bam tat-tat-tat" battle.

A Sangheili warrior would die before touching a human weapon.

So I can beat the entire legendary campaign by jumping out behind rocks, letting the enemies waste ammo on my shields, then retreating again to recharge them? And if they come after me to kill me up close, I just retreat far enough back that they can no longer pursue me?

The elites in Halo 2 and Halo 3 seemed to survive when they touched a human weapon.

Unless we have Health in REACH, therefor that wouldnt work. Plus an Elite can easily whoop your ass at close range. Plus they would be doing a lot of damange and not missing a lot of shots on you. Therefor YES you could hide and take some hits and HOPE they run out. But they wont be stupid and just waste it, they will also be flushing you out, flanking you, etc.

A Sangheili warrior would die if he didn't get a weapon.

that is becasue you can tell them to take it, not becasue it is canonical. Also, they realize the prophets are false and dont view humans as filth. By themselves, an Elite would fight to the death before willingly taking one. and yes, they would die. they would not pick up a human weapon, period.

Look... I'm on bungiepedia!

If the stalemate were to last long enough for everyone to deplete the ammunition from all weapons on the field, the silence creeping in would be haunting... less and less gunfire, more and more sickening howls of death as those lucky enough to have loaded weapons mow down everyone without one.

I like Halo, It kills all sentinel life with sufficient bio-mass... and doesn't afraid of anything.

I think hand to hand combat might be fail.

But the limited ammo thing has potential...the only flaw being the cheap wait for the enemy to waste ammo then charge thing as mentioned above.

Yes, but could easily change with
1-Crazy uber strong Elites with Swords (think ultras and zealots)

2-Some enemies would conserve ammo and wait for you

3-Turrets are still unlimited.

But yes there is always a little problem with such an idea. However there is ways around it.

Yea that's a pretty good way to look at it.

First-You get into a big firefight, bullets and plamsa flying everywhere, people yelling and screaming.

Then slowly theres less gunfire, less plasma shots. It's slowly getting silent

And at last the amount of bullet/plasma activity goes all the way down. Troops from both sides try to find ammo they can use, your men are scared, your enemies are watching your every move. Some Elites might pull out Swords and rush you, scaring your men and forcing them to run away (except your spartans and perhaps some ODST)

I speak the truth, and truth speaks itself.
The lies disguise what you despise.
Run. Flee and be, what you've always dreamed.
What happens now won't matter later.
What you see will not be, nor what you imagine will not happen.
The end is close, so take your dose.

Not new, not original, not accepted in Halo 2, 3 or ODST.

Why would it be accepted now?

It's a good idea but there are too many ways to exploit it. And in battle, there's not always going to be a dead teamate's corpse that has a gun with full ammo. The limited grenades and the AI's ability to search and find more grenades would be useful but I don't wanna see halo become like Tekken when everyone runs out of ammo. And besides, how many occasions would the enemy actually run out of ammo? only in Legendary with Famine skull on is when I myself run out of ammo often.

It should work for our team but not for the Covenent. Team mates should be as relying on ammo as you and they might ask you to change weapons with them if they have low ect.
