Actually, from what I recall in Bungies original letter when they got bought by Microsoft, they still retained control over how they released their games... IE, if they wanted to, it could go to any platform they wanted to. Although an unspoken assumption there is that it's always X Box first.
I wonder if that is still true.
At any rate, I seriously, seriously, hope that Halo 2 comes out for PC/Mac. I waited the years I needed to to get it on my Mac (way longer than most folks!) and it was well worth the wait... I'm simply not capable of playing a FPS without a keyboard and mouse. On top of which, outside of Halo, there isn't much I want on the X Box... never been a console person. Although I do own a Dreamcast.
Whether or not Halo 2 makes it to the platform remains to be seen, but I suspect if the demand is high enough, they won't pass on making extra cash. I don't doubt that, considering the game has to run on the same hardware the original ran on, the new requirements for PC won't be quite as astronomical as you suspect. A video card upgrade might be required. At the moment, my computer runs Halo without a hitch.
