blarg, bow chicka wow wow, boomshakalaka,

in the image above you can clearly see a spartan (Fred?) holding a combat knife. would this mean a knife in reach? or would it just be another buck thing, where its only in the cutscene. i personally think a knife would ba an awesome unlockable, but only at the highest level, with a reduced lunge. what do u guys think.

  • 11.12.2009 9:54 PM PDT

Its not fred. Doesn't mean that the knife will be wieldable. We won't be unlocking weapons.

Because Muslims surgically implant organic bombs in their testicles, which in turn will be injected into women during sex, which will grow into BABY BOMBS!

A knife would be pretty pointless.

More of a 50/50 right now.

The knife would only be for looking cool.

Unlockables for ranks? You mean like Call of Duty?

Lalalalala I can't hear you!

blarg, bow chicka wow wow, boomshakalaka,

exactly. this would stop it be completely overpowered. would also look totally kickass. and when assassinating someone. think of the possibilities.

Buck should not be allowed on a warthog turret.

It would be cool, to whip out a knife to stab someone in the back, or in the back of the head for an instant kill.. hell an assassination is an instant kill anyways, so just change the animation from a regular beatdown to a knifing.... it would be awesome.

blarg, bow chicka wow wow, boomshakalaka,

i was also thinking if the opponent wasnt moving you could reach around his neck and slit his or her thought. or if we are going for gears of war style gore we could take their head right off.

Or you could punch them with your fist and kill them instantly. As always. And gore doesn't instantly make a videogame better.

well your no fun, are you? your right. gore does not always make a game better. but i think halo could use a bit more gore, other than a splatter of blood and a seemingly unharmed corpse.

There is nothing wrong with Halo:Reach. We all just have our gripes about everything we don't like. Not liking something doesn't make it broken.

Well, not if used properly. It cool be some neat, high tech toy, swings faster then a sword with less lunge range.

You could swing into a sword lunge/swing to kill them for a bulltrue. But a Gravity Hammer would LOL-PWN you because of the shockwave.

If you think about it, they could set it up to be a rock-paper-scissors relationship.

Knife > Sword > Hammer > Knife

See were I am going? Not like it would be necessary, but it would be neat for custom games.

If you want realistic violence in large amounts go shoot innocents in an Airport playing CoD:MW2.

I find the lack of realistic violence a refreshing quirk in Halo. It doesn't need to go overboard like Gears of War and will never feel the need to be realistic about it like CoD.

You be playin the wrong game for that stuff.

I ♥ Bungie!

NO! no knife, its retarded it would be to much like COD besides if we had a knife what would that do to brutes or elites? ya i know buck stabed a cheiftain in the neck but he got lucky.

...What? You can do this in that game? Depressing.

your right. i was going a bit far there, with the whole "decapitation" thing. but i still believe gore could add more depth to the game. picture an elite pressing a marine against a wall, and taking him apart with an energy sword. put some fear back in the game, and make me go "-blam!- AWESOME" or "DAMN BIATCH YOU GOT DEAD" when i get a headshot.

Yo Hylebos,

Got a link for you since you're a pretty cool guy.

See for yourself. They use it to make you hate the bad guy even more, they literally make you play his right hand man.

The entire first part of the level is spent slaughtering unarmed, scared and crying civilians.

You get that feeling with or without violence. Just because you can't take a leg off or spill some blood...That, to me, seems like a silly thing to desire.

If anything it is too common. Halo is free of it and I really hope Bungie and anyone making any future Halo games doesn't actually go the violent route. It just isn't necessary for a feeling of pride or fun.

I don't play Halo 3 with the desire to 'feel fear' as you seem to have put it. I play Halo to spam frags, clean up with BR and try to get some laughs in between matches.

Want a Knife that would work? I'll give an example of something from an old Sci-Fi flick I once watched.

'Sub-sonic blade' - The blade itself vibrates so fast that it drives itself through armor like some brutal, half laser, half chainsaw weapon. Armor is like Tin foil and Flesh is like butter beneath a blade like this.

See? Was that so hard? I didn't have to think five seconds to create an example of something that would work. It's a videogame, there are no rules. Whatever Bungie says works will work. If suddenly every Elite were fatally allergic to plastic and you spent part of the game tossing ball bit balls at the fleeing aliens then that is what works. There are no limits or official rules for an imaginary world that can't just be rewritten or worked around.

I got one for you.

Heat Blades from the Gundam Universe. If my memory serves me correctly they use the cutting edge as a massive induction coil to superheat most metals and aid in cutting.

But the stark reality I see is that knifes will be decoration (CQB armor) or utilized only for last ditch efforts in cutscenes (shiving that Arbiter punk or Brute Chieftan)

I mean it is 540 years into the future but weapons of tomorrow more reflect current weapons. MAC guns and Laser weaponry is the cutting edge of the UNSC and cutting edge of today. Having super-powered knifes or blades breaks step with everything else going on.

Despite my own desires for a Human equivalent to the Sword/Hammer.
