I imagined it to sound kind of smooth, I always thought it was pronounced: "reash"

Main character should be a black jazz musician with a don't take no -blam!- attitude. Marty could be working on the accompanying jazz funk soundtrack.

I always thought of it as a symbol, kind of like Prince's former name, that cannot be pronounced. Except it's even more trendy and ironic because it's a symbol comprised of alphabetical characters!

Maybe its a forbidden word and to say it invokes the wrath of the old ones.

PPPPPP--POWER!

I'm pretty sure it is pronounced 'Reech', like you are reaching for something. At least that is the way some of the Bungie staff pronounced it when showcasing the announcement trailer at E3.

The pronunciation of words being the same in 500 years as they are now is simply absurd.

Cool, Hip Guy: "Hey man, I heard there was a new video game out."

Asshat Loser: "You mean Halo: Reacccchhhkk?"

Cool, Hip Guy: "Dude, WTF."

C'THULU: ...

Cool, Hip Guy: "Okay, C'thulu, I know that we were partners last week in creative writing, but please, seriously, you need to stop bugging me. It's intrusive, and honestly, your piece on Ernest Hemingway's personal demons was just ridiculous."

C'THULU: ...

Cool, Hip Guy: "Dude, just go, alr...OMFG WHAT IS THAT?!?!"

A wild Mewtwo appears. Mewtwo uses Hyper Beam.

...

It's super effective!

Indeed. You think the youth of today mangle the english language? Its logical to assume that their offspring will mangle it even more, and the offspring's offspring even more. In five generations, nobody will understand what we wrote in the present, and the world will go back to the dark ages.

More bacon strips!

Scribblenauts has proven that C'THULU can be beaten by an Hydra or a simple ghost. Hell, even a magic wand can turn C'THULU into a frog.

Maybe it's pronounced "reek". As in, "you reek of cat."

Furthermore, are we even sure that Halo is pronounced "Hay-Low"?

The Numa Numa song has good evidence that it is, in fact, pronounced "Hah-Low".

I always thought it was a silent 'e' so it was pronounced 'Rach' like the shortened version of Racheal.

Gives it kind of a sexy, Taylor Swift twang to it doesn't it?

Yeah, I thought this because the name Rachel is actually increasing in popularity. By the year 2552 it seems obvious that planets would be called Rachel or some other variation on the name.

Just looking at the word "Halo" in the banner makes me think it isn't. It's written "HAL" and then that funny symbol. The use of HAL is what I find interesting, since he's obviously a well known character from 2001 a Space Odyssey. Other Halo games have been themed around the bible, 7 rings, floods, arks, covenant etc. Perhaps Reach is going to be themed around the Odyssey.

You know how people buy stars and name them after themselves? In the future, people buy planets and name them after themselves. Someone named a planet "rachel" and their decendents got into a massive violent lawsuit when humanity settled the planet and called it something else. The settlement involved giving the planet a name that was derived from Rachel. The decendents of Rachel were happy because their ancestor's name was still part of the planet and humanity was happy that their planet didn't have such a stupid name.

I worked at an EBgames in college, and kids' moms would always come in and be like "Hey, do they make that hah-low tape for ps2?"

I bet there will also be a planet called Ross and Ross and Rachel will always get really close to hitting each other, causing massive space destruction, but they keep drifting further apart until it happens again.

Well well.. sadly it seems most everyone here missed ENGLISH class. Or failed to pronounce common words. (Reech) is the correct pronunciation. Whatever your problem is, go back to English class please.

See you on the battlefield.

Well, if would be up for debate if Cortana hadn't said "As for tracking us all the way from Reach...", or Lord Hood saying "the fleet that destroyed Reach was 50 times this size."

Just sayin'.

Yo I already took all my required English credits, and yet the question still stands! I am comparatively on a higher level of English language education than you are, and yet I still cannot fully grasp what the proper pronunciation is. Thus, this has nothing to do with literacy, and more to do with propaganda, lies, and secrecy.
