Subject: How Reach could be squad based.

I've been hearing rumors that reach could be squad based and I instantly thought back to the game republic commando. It is one of the more halo-ish games out there and I think it would be pretty cool to incorporate some of the squad features of that game into halo without changing the gameplay. For those that have never played the game, it wasn't like GRAW, it was just where you could see your squad mates health and tell them to heal/attack/take cover using the d-pad.

It's distracting. The same thing sort of exists with co-commanders in Red Alert 3. It's also gimmicky.

Joe staten said that Reach plays like a squad based shooter without the extra baggage that squad based shooters have. Most squad features would probably fit under the "extra baggage".

I'm inferring from his statement that they plan to make your spartan AIs so smart that from your actions in the given senario they know what you are doing and can support you in your endevor.

In other words, you don't need to give them orders, they do it on their own.

Basically we'll have Meat-shield Marines from Halo 3 again?

I think when he said without the baggage he meant it would not be like GRAW where your teammates would stand in front of enemy takes without you ordering them to move. And I would want teammates that i can order around to make sure that they do exactly what i want them to do. I want teammates so loyal they would be willing to kill each other or them selves if I told them to.

Judging Bungie's track record in the AI department for allied units, the game is going to be hard for the wrong reasons.
