Subject: Burst Weapons Suck.

Group invites will be treated very poorly because the Care Package is empty.

Why?

If the reticule is red, you can be guaranteed that magnetism/autoaim will kick in and give you a hand. Assuming that your reticule is red, 2/3 bullets will hit. Those two/three bullets will annoy the hell out of you, because you'll hear 4 of those bursts, bullet by bullet, on your head until you die.

Burst weapons take little skill, and are hella annoying.

My suggestion, just give the pistol's bullet/power to a battle rifle model. No burst weapons.

Edit: I suppose I should add to the fact that Burst weapons screw with the connection. 3 bullets shot out of the weapon at the same time isn't going to have a good day trying to find their targets.

I also suppose that I should add that burst weapons are easier to use in close combat. You can simply fire in mostly anywhere, hell even blindfire and can still kill the enemy. Single fire weapons are much harder to use and require more in close range, especially if the target is jumping around.

If you want a more fine line between skilled players and chumps, I'd recommend sticking with single-fire weapons.

You didn't read my post, did you. I'm willing to bet that you jumped to the two capital letters in the post, and didn't bother to read my arguments.

That's really the only solution. Keep the power, but make aiming a much bigger factor. I guarantee the MLG enthusiasts will have to deal with a lot less kids and nimrods on their teams in Reach if the BR has no spread. The chumps will go back to their AR spray-and-prey playlists.

So?

The 'new' BR that I want could fire slower, with a more powerful round and the Carbine could fire with faster, with a smaller round.

They can balance each other out, so that it's more ofa preference.

They should make it so you are able to choose your rate of fire

That's because it's easy. Easy is always better feeling to someone than difficult, but be that as it may, it waters down the skill of the game. People who are great shots will stand out much more than those of moderate or low talents.

Are you serious? It took me about 70 games to get a 50, thats including other match making game types then the one i was working on, does that mean I play too much?

I mean in my book that means that I play less the Brig gens but play better then them.

And the BR is fine, it works just like it should. I mean how come no one calls the carbine over powered, it shoots faster and is stronger then the BR. It should stay a burst weapon, and I see no real point to changing it, oh man 2/3 bullets hit someone, so if that happens 4 times 8 of 12 hit, thats not enough for a kill, otherwise a regular 3 shot would be a kill.

Read the damn OP.

I'm sure you want a more fine line in between skill and (um..) not-skill. Burst weapons reduce that fine line, because the not-skill people have a better chance of killing you, because more autoaim and magnetism is in effect. If we didn't have that autoaim, people would be better off throwing their BR's in a fire.

To balance that out, single-fire weapons is the way to go.

Thank goodness someone on this thread isn't a blind BR follower like most everyone else. However, I'd clarify that it's not burst weapons in particular that I have a problem with, but rather making those weapons into the core weapon. Having a burst headshot capable weapon takes little skill, randomizes gameplay in an area that shouldn't be, etc. How hard is it to get a headshot with the BR? Honestly...

[EDIT in relation to above reply} As to out bring a 50, you'd have the same problem at out aring them. Having a high skill means someone's better at the game overall. However, it is inarguable that the skillgap in H3 is not very wide, and there is a huge variation of skill even at the 50 level. This has a large part in the weaponset failing to differentiate skill like it should. Yes, a legit 50 will out br you, but not as badly as they should. At distances, that burst could cost him a missed bullet and 4 shot where he would have killed you with a more proper gun.

Actually, the BR's random spread and bullet registration issues make BR fights more about luck than skill when compared to Pistol fights in Halo 1.

  • 11.13.2009 5:01 PM PDT

I have nothing against the br, its actually been my favorite weapon since it came out in halo 2. But you are right, the burst capabilities make it much easier to land that critical last headshot, which makes it way easier to kill with compared to all the other mid ranged weapons. I really hope they have a single shot br or pistol and a mid range automatic gun like a scoped ar similar to the scoped smg from odst(lower damage per round, bigger clip).

  • 11.13.2009 5:02 PM PDT

The BR doesn't suck, its some of the people who can't use them that suck.

  • 11.13.2009 7:59 PM PDT

More bacon strips!

Burst weapons suck!?!

My AR2 War Stomper in Borderlands claim otherwise.

Seriously, I have to agree with you on this one, weapons like the BR in the Halo sanbox tend to overshadow half the weapons available.

I don't mean powerwise, I mean skillwise/connectionwise/ect.

There is nothing wrong with Halo:Reach. We all just have our gripes about everything we don't like. Not liking something doesn't make it broken.

I'm FOR it.

I say, if this turns out to be the real deal when the Beta pops, we should have someone send Bungie cookies that say "Win"

Actually, I might do it myself.
