Hey guys I have a few questions about some performance issues with online gameplay. I've been a halo player for ages, but I found that it was about time to come back to halo pc -- in style. I've went out and no bull about it thoroughly upgraded my ole dell precision, it's a keeper. Anyways my new setup runs Halo PC and it's the best I've gotten Halo to look and hear (thanks sawnose for the Anisotropic Filtering tidbit :P). I also installed my Xbox 360 wired controller to use while playing the game and I even set it up so that I can play with the bumper jumper button layout (halo 3).
So I'm very satisfied playing campaign. Yesterday I thought I'd run through some mods in CE and then play some multiplayer. There's this one issue that's been bugging me to no end yesterday and the day before. My shots/melee doesn't register damage 50%+ of the time. I feel this sense, like I'm running in a polyhedron bubble trying to maneuver around and I have a noodle for a pistol.
I think my Xbox 360 controller might have something to do with it. When I fire my pistol or any other weapon full blast, I see the bullets physically spread outside the weapon cross-hairs beyond normal circumstances and when the bullets do hit the player their shields flicker but every other shot they ping damage. I've played halo Xbox and recognize the difference. However, I've figured out that if I severely slow my rate of fire with the pistol, shooting the pistol painfully slow the bullets actually end up inside the cross hair and have a normal lead shot with damage.
My question is could there possibly be some issue with the controller firmware, or is there an update that I should be aware of when playing an Xbox 360 controller for halo pc/windows games in general?
Should I just stick to keyboard and mouse if the Xbox 360 controller is the problem?
I realize high latency plays a huge part in what I'm describing, but seeing me with 60-100 pings and the game averages 200 ping down the list has got me thinking.
