Hmmm. That's very interesting, but I'm not sure that I agree with your reasoning. I have no doubts that you are correct insofar as that they will want this, the last Bungie-made Halo, to be the best of all. However, as to reasons two and three, I'm afraid I disagree. If Bungie truly loved their IP (which they absolutely do), then they would want it to be successful no matter the Developer. It's also important to remember that they are ready to move on from Halo, it isn't being forced upon then (therefore there won't be any animosity to the new developer, at least as far as I can imagine). As for the future success of Bungie, I think they have great odds of being very successful. While you raise a valid point about the fact that it's hard to beat Halo, I don't think success will be hard to reach for Bungie. Think of it this way: if Infinity Ward was to start a new IP, everybody in the world would buy it simply because it's from the makers of CoD. Assuming that the above is true, I would take it one step farther by saying that Bungie's fan base is much more dedicated than IW's, and therefore there will always be a major market for a Bungie game. It may not become the household name that Halo has, but I think any Bungie game will break 1 million in it's opening weekend, no matter what it is.
And by the way, Halo was always at the top of the pack in gameplay. Even two full years after its launch, Halo 3 was still at the top of the charts for number of players. If that doesn't say something about the quality behind the name, then I don't know what does.
